Project Duramax Lift Kit Install - Tow Rig Tech Episode 5

On this Episode of Tow Rig Tech, our Project Duramax is getting an altitude adjustment thanks to our friends at Rough Country. The truck is our editor, Carter's, 2005 Crew Cab Chevy with a 6.6L LLY Duramax Diesel engine. He uses the truck for towing the park Tractor and his Polaris RZR. It also gets used to haul fuel around the park to keep the tractor full. He wanted a dependable lift kit that would keep the truck's factory ride quality while making room for some 35 inch tall tires. So we gave the folks at Rough Country a call and they sent us a 6" Rough Country Lift Kit. We borrowed a lift from our friends at Rocky Hollow Metal and went to work. Stay tuned for the ending where we take this lifted Duramax diesel for a test drive! Who wouldn't want to daily drive a Duramax lifted on 35s?

I have '06 DMAX & I had the rc kit, switched it out with a bds 6.5 WAAAAY better!! Smoother ride, better cv axle angles & better quality material. Spend the extra $600, you get what you pay for!!

The fronts do hang out a little more than the rear but that is how most trucks are setup to help with turning radius

it's just a little lift and most good goosneck trailers are adjustable

@@BustedKnuckleVideo I have pretty much the same truck, just airbags on back and a programmer with 145k miles. The reason I worry about the lift is I’m often towing 14,000+ and sometimes close to 20,000.

Hey. How did those wheel bearings last after installing the kit? Considering they’re supposed to be torqued to 177ft pounds. And you just used a big ass impact on them. Bet they were howling in at least a week. Probably can’t hear over tire noise though. You’ll feel them some day, just wait.

It actually rides way better than I expected! Really all we did was move the suspension mounts down with this system. I have zero complaints about Rough Country. This is the second truck we have lifted and had zero issues.

In my opinion the torsion bar front end rides better than the strut/coil spring models. On the 1500's anyway. Had a 2000 model with a 6 in that rode way better than the 2012 I had
