The Earth fixes itself, weeds come up to fix the soil itself, mow tall and let the tips of the blades heal.before you cut them again, raking and seeding consistently yearly will overcrowd the weeds eventually... again weeds have purpose just like any other plant the Earth has been blessed with

Good video! I'm sure the project lawn will be amazing as you build up the soill and reseed in the Fall. I learned the hard way as well, you can "over-product" a lawn to death. Lol! Keep it simple and the lawn will do what it do!

My lawn was in terrible shape last fall i decided to scap, dethatch, and core aireate. Went all jonathan green. a viewer told me not to put down any weed killer this yr. To worry about that in the fall. Also i started with a 5.2 ph My lawn looks so good this yr. I believe the ornimec is what did it.

Mr Ferguson- thank you for sharing your frustrations bc it helps all of us learn with you. You mentioned the stem ‘weeds’ is it possible it could be the TTTF stressed out and it went to seed? Those jokers (stems) are hard to cut. Just a thought. I can’t remember if you planted perennial rye or not but it will go to seed when it’s stress out as well. It usually happens this time of year especially with the changes in weather patterns. Ryan Knorr just shared a you tube video on this the other day. Take care brother!

Why not use blue dye in your sprayer to make sure you have even coverage. That’s not looking that bad, I think you can recover that grass. It seems like you are trying to do too much at the same time. Why not concentrate on getting something green growing good right now, and dealing with the weeds in the early fall when it starts cooling down. Maybe spot treating the dense weeds during the summer heat.

Also. Research the mysoil test, as it has very bad reviews. Try doing one with your local extension office, or university.

It’s funny how you said back to basics. I am also trying to go back to basics to see what works for me. I am going with Scotts fertilizers and also putting down some sea kelp so far I am having great results. I am always changing what I am doing to see what gives me the best results. Next season I might try to use the Jonathan green lineup again i feel it gave me the best results. I know you will get it back in shape sometimes the basics work better than the professional stuff.

Mr. Ferguson - please use a different soil test to check your PH. I used the MySoil test and my PH reading was way off. Many of scientist have said that the way that test works makes it incapable of giving you a correct PH reading. I hate to see you making decisions on your soil with inaccurate readings. Good luck!
@I3arbarian

That is interesting. I used MySoil Test in late winter/early spring her in piedmont NC. It indicates my PH was actually in the 7.2 range, which would be odd for this area of the country. When I used a multi-purpose (moisture, light, PH) prove to check the soil PH it wasn’t showing readings near 7 at any of the spots I checked. Ow I am wondering if I really need to do anything to attempt to lower PH at all. I had ordered Magi-Cal Plus for lowering PH from Amazon on 2 occasions and both times they damaged it in shipment and refunded my order before it even made it to me.

@@tedallen5002 First, I think Mr. Ferguson is a good and faithful man who has good intentions. What is really happening with many of these KZbinrs is that they either become corrupted because they become sponsors of a product or don't do any scientific research that either validates or debunks the marketing nonsense they watch or read. With regards to the MySoil test which is white labeled to many other companies, this test has been proven inaccurate by the Grass Factor guys, Dr. Shaddox and many more. Both of their shows dedicate time to specifically call out the nonsense many of these KZbinrs are pushing. We need to educate ourselves so that we save money and become better stewards of our environment.

I’m sure you will get it in shape Mr. Ferguson. A little over a week ago I decided to do a spray of Prodiamine, azoxy, prop, Microgreene, 5-0-5 (had to make my own from 20-0-0 and 0-0-20), Sea-K, Cal, Fe, Speedzone (clover and some broadleafs), Ammonium Sulfate, and Natural Adjuvant. Overall it did ok, with rain coming about 36 hours after spraying. Speedzone took out most of the clover, but I see some that will require another treatment. However, I have spots where it looks like I torched the finer bladed grass. I have GCI Cool Blue. I do t know if I sprayed too heavily in spots, but I did make a second pass over the strip where the white clover was invading. I have damaged grass in other areas though and with all the rain we had for about 5 days, at this point I doubt those areas will recover. I may have tried too many things at once, but I was way behind…

That's a lot to spray at once and some needed to be watered in and some shouldn't be.

Like your channel a lot @@MrFerguson, but where you went wrong with Church project lawn was choice of grass seed. You always say how hot NC is, so should never have put any KBG in there. Should've been all TTTF, maybe even going new K31 seed.

It was just for fun brother lol. We have well water at the church so watering isn’t an issue. However, me being there is. I fully expected most the kbg to die in the heat anyways. Didn’t expect to help it, but it’s all good.

I know you like to go with Pete’s saying “Get your dirt right” and I don’t fully disagree there but we all have seen his one handed probe test and he contributed that saying it’s all the humic he’s applied thru the years. With that being said he also runs off a well that no doubt he runs lots of deep water cycles per week. The best way to grow and maintain a nice yard isn’t by spending super amounts of money on these so called magic potions that are “What your lawn needs to thrive”. For goodness sakes anywhere in the world you can see grass thriving on sidewalks and roads and even railroad ties. Do yourself and the church a favor and do just your old school cultural practices. Feed,water,and mow once a week and I bet you’ll be amazed. I used to buy into that other crap but after asking some older people how there lawns were so nice and they all said the same thing. Feed water mow and fall aeration with seed if needed. My lawn has never been so strong and lush and green until last year when I did what they said. And man the money I’m saving is just the icing on the cake. The most money I spend now comes in summer to keep my fescue/Texas bluegrass going. It’s nothing compared to what you spend on all the marketing gimmicks. Oh and I also can put a super long probe into my soil where I have a beautiful stand of ryegrass with a bit of kbg. Water is king my friend. Sorry for the long post but us lawn folks need to stop with all the unnecessary nonsense that studies have shown that the small amounts of humic fulvic etc. that are applied to lawns have little to no impact on soil biology or water uptake. You would have to use literally tons of it to do anything good or useful to your lawn. Just saying. lol.
