Mine is a 1971 as well. I have owned it 2x now after buying it back 850 miles from where I sold it and 30 years later. I found something of mine in it. mind blowing.

Wow! Very ambitious! I owned a 1969 Opel GT 1900 from 1979 through early 2000s. Did quite a bit of work including body repair, paint and engine rebuild. Certainly nothing like the complete tear down you are performing. Oh, the memories! Fun little car to drive though hated baking in it during Kansas summers without air conditioning. I’m really enjoying your videos on this project. Keep up the great work! Edit: Yeah, those headlights are quite a tight fit. Very tough to not chip the paint.

Thanks for the comment. Truly appreciated it. Yes this is very small sports car and I can imagine it performs best on small curvy tarmac roads (Or miles and miles of straight roads in KS ). And about being inside the oven...I assume that mid-front engine next to your legs does not help..or black vinyl interior. Thanks for finding this channel, hope you stay along for the rest of the journey.

Well spotted. Soup is main contributor and inspiration for my channel. And luckily so, since without this channel, I most likely would have ditched the project.....or have very low motivation to work on it ..... Now challenges truly feels like challenges, not obstacles

Oh nooooo….Flashbacks of freezing to death, driving with my buddy to high school in Chicago suburb in a green one with cardboard covering rust holes in passenger floorboards with snow and slush occasionally sneaking through 😎

Made me remember my Manta A mid 70ish something model. Had plans for straight six etc. but too much work. The car itself had been owned by a chainsmoker...agyrt 12 strong buckets of hot water with powerful detergents the smell was still there. Sold it again.

According to the chromeless window rubbers and black bumpers it is a GT-J ... "economy version", slightly scaled-down for costs.
@GT1900garage10 ай бұрын
Yes, it is. Not 100% shall I keep the original J look or.....
@wacholder569010 ай бұрын
@@GT1900garage You should. Unless you have a full scale of A-L chrome trim - around 60 pieces. Which is prohibitive expensive even in bad condition. And cobbling together a -J with e.g. chrome bumpers doesn't look right as well.
@GT1900garage10 ай бұрын
Yes, agree... the J look in mint condition still looks as cool as normal GT
@teekay_17 ай бұрын
A friend who owned one of these said the "GT" stood for _Got Troubles_ . Anyway, I'm assuming this was originally painted orange and it got painted a different color along the way.
@GT1900garage7 ай бұрын
Your friend is a wise man...Yes, as far as I have been able to detect, this car has been painted in five different colors. This car was used as a TV and Movie prop car for a decade, hence in poor condition...

How much did the GT cost to buy?
@GT1900garage10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I will not share that info, but you can buy GTs in Europe everything between 2000€ to 20000€. Depending on condition. But as I have learned, you might want to consider either fully stripped or fully restored GT, everything in between may be either jackpot or a disaster....

@GT1900garage9 ай бұрын
