Hey Joe, during your test drive in the yard of the Kawasaki, it sounds like there was a driveline whine, especially on deceleration. Best check the bearings or the joints in the driveline. With what has been neglected on that machine, I would bet the trans or the diffs may be low on or out of oil! Great job on this one for sure.

when the thing would only go so fast my first thought was crack in a slide diaphram. then watching slide bounce while running i thought tight intake valve. but i certainly did not expect loose rockers! and with such low miles a ring problem. this thing was flush with problems. hopefully the rear cylinder comes around with some run time. good job working issues out!

@vadimkargin3200
@vadimkargin3200 2 ай бұрын
@TexasRedneck there are 2 plugs on the right side under the tank. I believe 1white and 1grey. You have to flip the connectors, white to grey a and white to grey. It plugs right in. After that turn the ignition on and wait few seconds. Should be all good after that. Plug the connectors back In the right order. Its been about 2 years since I did it. I might be forgetting the sequence ignition on or off. There is a video about it on KZbin. That is how I found out initially. Good luck.

i owned a 2010 650i Brute, awesome machine, would pull anyone out that I was riding with that managed to get stuck, loads of power. I had a similar issue before that involved a valve adjustment and worn rings. After a top end rebuild., the issues ended up being a defective reverse limit switch "weird" but the person I sold it to a few years later is still using it to this day and loves it, they are way more dependable than the 750s

Since the cam timing was off on that cyl, may have to recheck the valve clearance, since the cams were out of phase at TDC. And compression may also be a little better with that fixed? Glad that it's running much better, and great troubleshooting!
@KenFullman
@KenFullman 10 күн бұрын
I doubt they'll be affected. The valves are checked with the piston at TDC on the compression stroke. Both valves will be completely closed for at least 90 degrees before and after that, so one tooth of offset in the camshaft won't show any difference in the clearance.

Hi Joe, Great video's. I have a 93 Kawasaki Bayou 300. Engine runs great. Well taken care of. Shifting is a different story. I watched many videos on how to adjust the clutch's. That's not it. I can shift into first and sometimes second but than I cant shift back down to first or neutral. If I turn the reverse knob than I can down shift but will go right into reverse. I'm not afraid to open the case but I don't want to do it for nothing. Like I said the engine is strong. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work.

Nice ATV, should be a quick flip! I thought of you and your great troubleshooting methods while watching another video. The guy was troubleshooting a chainsaw that was bogging down. Long story short, he ended up using a adjustable ignition system coil tester to verify the spark he did have was very weak. I'm not sure if you have one (haven't seen you use it) but it's a great way to test your coil strength as you can adjust the gap to pretty much whatever you want. Just because you have spark doesn't mean that it's good spark! It's definitely something I'm going to add to my toolbox.

If you have trouble locating the source of a coolant leak in the future, try wiping it dry and use a black light (UV) to see where the coolant seeps out while it's running. I've never needed the fluorescent dye for this. The antifreeze fluoresces just fine by it's self. I hope I can pass a few little things along before my time on this rock is up. Older mechanics have a treasure-trove of tips time saving information.

Something to keep in mind is that this engine is almost exactly the same as the teryx you worked on last year. These Kawasakis have issues with the valves wearing out prematurely so there's a good chance the valves are burnt and bad. I dealt with the same issue as you with the smoking and the lack of top end power until I replaced the valves.

That was a really nice machine, I am glad that you made such a good bargain! I have just a suggestion though; seeing that many of the machines you buy is in the condition where the sellers have more or less given up on them, wouldn't it be better if you didn't try to start them or run them at all before checking everything that you more or less know you will be doing anyway? I mean, did you come close to destroying this fine engine because of the sellers lack of know-how? That would have sucked..
