Love your passion for cars, Quinn. At over 40 years old, I'm just getting my feet wet with learning what makes cars handle the way they do. I'm gaining a lot of insight on suspension, tires, alignment and types of products that actually work. Maybe you don't know it, but you're mentoring me on my RX-8 "toy." Enjoy that FD! I had an FC, and it was fun, but so happy to have a more modern car that's still got the amazing Wankel engine!

Another great video, man! Really appreciate your detail and insight as to how or why each part was chosen for your builds. To me, it really speaks volumes when someone can rattle off that kind of information along with part names without "uhh" and "I don't know what is" cluttering each sentence. Keep up the good work!

I am 14 years older than you. I remember the FD when it came out in 1992. I was 24. I wanted one really bad. At the time I drove a 1985 5.0 Mustang GT that I hot-rodded with ported heads, Edelbrock intake, 750 CFM Holley Double-Pumper. It was a beast, and I got a lot of traffic violations in it. I had a well paying job. I could afford the FD car payments. But I couldn't afford the insurance. I didn't buy it. Congratulations to you on buying an FD. I envy you.

Nice too see a different take on restoring and tastefully modifying the FD3s....I also a proud owner of a 94 FD3S type R Japanese Import that was tastefully modified from Japan. I have owned it for 7 years without touching it and without any major problems. But seing you Restoring yours to a very fine detail gives my the motivation to may be it's time to refresh my lovely lady. FYI mine is chaste white ....keep up the videos I shall be following your builds...

Man you have a fantastic attitude in life (hard work, follow your dreams) and are so deserving of this beautiful example of what this car represents in automotive history and the passion a sports car is all about. I have a wonderful memory of driving my first FD from Sydney to Brisbane the day I bought it, factory standard Touring model ( we got the dual oil coolers standard because hot Australia). Around a 900km trip and it was 10pm with 2.5 hours of driving to go. I was driving through the Gibraltar Range National Park, very twisty, with fast sweepers and tight corners and changes in altitude. I was driving tired and way too fast in the dark, but every time I thought ‘this is it, I won’t make this corner!’, I did, the car was that responsive even with the bumpy road moving the chassis about under my seat, not overbraked, and perfectly balanced to turn in. I fell in love with true sports cars that night! I raced Subaru WRXs at the time with much more power and heavily modified suspension and it was an eye opener to drive a car built from scratch as a sports car in the FD. May you continue to enjoy your black beauty and can’t wait to see the white project car development.

Great vid. Love the love you have for the FD. on a small aside, I agree with you about the look with the sunroof....however. I have a '93 with the sunroof. I've owned it for 21 years and have put 150,000 miles on it. I have also been in FDs without sunroofs. Without the ability to flip the back up, buffeting is terrible. Ventilation is terrible without it. I'm glad mine has it. Looking forward to your white build.

This is quality content right here. Keep up the awesome videos man! My personal dream 90's Japanese cars have been the MK4 Supra and the FD RX-7. Supra's have just gone up so much in value, that I can't ever imagine myself pulling the trigger on one one day. I think you've just cemented my future dream build. I just hope I can find a good FD when the time comes.
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I agree with the Supras, I think of them on occasion, but just like the NSX (which I love) the price of entry now is hard to justify for what you are getting.
@ftovr2957

Saw you on Speed Academy's channel but KZbin has been feeding some suggested viewings in of late! Always interesting to trace back one's car knowledge and experience. I remember some of my earliest exposure to the FD was in the NFS games, although I feel like I definitely discounted it a lot, particularly in Carbon, because of how it was ranked against the other vehicles like the RX-8. It wasn't until years later that I really began to pay proper attention to them and notice how good looking they really were. Unfortunately they also keep increasing in price now so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get my hands on one! I fell in love with my FTO much like you did with the RX-7, it was just visually appealing even though I didn't really understand much mechanically about cars at all at the time.

I'm considering going down the RX7 route, I own a TT6 Supra, but part of me just really wants to get into the smaller sportier RX7. The Supra really is a grand tourer and is a totally different car. I totally understand your comment about the sunroof breaking up the lines of the car. I feel the same way about Aero top Supras. Love your videos!
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rachel! So would the Supra be going in order to move into an RX-7? The FD is really an awesome car, but it's a real commitment car. You have to be willing to invest a great deal of time and money to sort them out thoroughly so they can be properly enjoyed. With that said, I still want to own a Mk4 Supra :)

@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
It was loud previously. I welded a Racing Beat resonator into my midpipe section and then switched to the Racing Beat twin tip rear section. Exhaust is full 3" from the turbo back with the wastegate recirculated into it. My FD is probably the quietest over 400 whp example out there now.

Another good video, good job man. And i must say that i do agree with you on the front bumper, just looks like the car is smiling at you, funny how something small like that rx7 plate makes such a massive difference. The rx7 just has the best idle sound in the world, but im not sure i woyld want a big turbo, i would most probably go for something more along the lines of a hybrid turbo. And i would change the wheels back to the one's it had on in the picture.. no offense, you have good taste and its your dream car and your favorite rims, taste just differs👍 but im very excited about the white rx7, cant wait to see what you are going to do!
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shaun! No offense taken on the wheels, I actually really liked those A-Tech Finalspeeds that came on the car except they were too small for the FD and looked really sunken in. They were only 8" wide with a +40mm offset, which is about what stock has. The RPF1s weren't my first choice of wheels, they were just a decent bang for buck years ago when I put them on. I do plan on replacing them.

On public roads, barely in control... let us know when you find out what it’s like to take a life in the pursuit of your own vanity. I had an FD3S, but also retained my respect for other people’s lives ;-)
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
How are you concluding that I was barely in control? At no point did I achieve any notable slip angle or over cook it into a corner with any understeer. No "oh shit" moments. I kept the car in my lane the entire time and gave plenty of space to the yellow. You can see an obvious difference in my driving from when on the road to the track driving clips where I was letting the car slide and move around a lot. I hope that when you had your FD you never once accelerated at full throttle through the gears, exceeded the speed limit or drove spiritedly on a winding road because it doesn't seem like you actually understand what car control is or looks like.

who knows if you’ll see this but im interested in buying an rx7 and doing a whole rebuild some what like you did and watching this video made me want it more now, but is the car reliable at 400hp if the maintenance is taken care of?
@TheSlipAngle
@TheSlipAngle 6 жыл бұрын
Yup. No issues engine wise other than changing the oil in shorter intervals. Supplying enough fuel for a little engine to make over 400 whp means you get more fuel contamination in the oil. I've had some issues with the turbo itself and surrounding bits like turbo oil seal and gaskets wearing out prematurely. This is probably due to the higher oil pressure of the 13b-REW and high exhaust temps. Other than that though the engine fires right up every time and has never left me stranded.
