🔥 There’s one skill that separates great IT Project Managers from everyone else-project tailoring. Most project managers get stuck trying to learn every new tool and process out there. They dive deep into theories but still struggle to deliver projects on time and within budget. It’s frustrating. The truth is, great project managers don’t try to do it all-they focus on tailoring simple processes and tools that work best for their team and projects. That’s what creates transparency, predictability, and results. But here’s the thing-tailoring isn’t just guessing what might work. It’s about knowing three critical components: 1) Understanding project management on a deeper level. 2) Knowing exactly what to tailor. 3) Applying it effectively in real companies with real people. That’s why I created the Professional Development Plan for IT Project Managers-to help you master project tailoring and finally become the project manager who delivers every time, no matter the challenge. ✅ Click the link below to get your development plan now and take the next step toward mastering project management. itpmschool.com/get-plan?

I stumbled on this video. Great info!!! Please follow what is the delivery method the company is using. More often than not it is in Powerpoint than email body. So that the stakeholders can easily compile your slide into another deck.

Thanks. In most cases, I try to convince stakeholders to use either a plain text report in an email or a dashboard in your PM tool (Jira/Asana etc.) If you do need slides that stakeholders need to reuse, I would create only the required slides separately. The hardest part here is that most stakeholders don't know a better why to communicate. So, you have to educate and convince them. It may take time.

Valuable information Dimitryi, I realize that the project progress report that my company has uses a very common pattern to yours. Even if it is not an email format the goal is to keep it short and informative. Thank you

Any recommendation on how to write Executive summary for Program/Multi-project in single view? So there are 5 projects which are not inter-dependent. I am presenting them in form of powerpoint presentations. 5 individual slides for each project for deep dive and an executive summary slide at start to summarise all project in 1 line each. I am circulating this each month but i think its least engaging and not sure if I must report updates from last month or give the overall context/status of the project? The only reason I don't want to refer this as a program summary is because these are independent projects and not inter dependent...Thanks in advance!

Hi Dhaval, Sorry for the late response. I wrote an answer to you 2 weeks ago but never published it. I think it's totally OK if stakeholders only read your one-liner status report. If it says everything is fine - they don't need to worry about the project. But if you say there's a problem - they should respond. If it works this way you don't need to change anything. I recommend showing the progress during the reporting period. Planned vs what was actually done. It gives a sense of performance from the team and your control over the project. I'm not sure if 1 month period is good. I prefer shorter reporting periods unless the project is really slow-paced.
