I have to admit, I saw you use the template button to automate generating tasks in another video and immediately went in to Notion to duplicate that for myself, so when I saw this video come up I thought, "ah, I already figured that out" - but there were so many gems I hadn't figured out here! Thanks so much!

This was a great help in simplifying the creation of many tasks within a new project in a relatively quick manner! Takeaways that may not seem immediately obvious: Inherited table values are persistent whether or not you use the "template button" - so method one can ALSO be use for pre-populating tasks with table properties. Dependencies (database relations) are ALSO maintained in the case that you want to predetermine critical paths of tasks. ie. preceding, proceeding relationships Cheers!

Amazing video -- I kept trying to make a database template that would create a linked database in the page & then duplicate the tasks in the database for that specific project. This is such a simple & elegant solution. Thank you so much!

Thanks for this Marie. I asked you about this stuff on Twitter a few weeks ago but wasn’t able to articulate myself very well. This is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for though! The tip about creating the template button tasks in a database so they keep any property metadata ... would never have thought of that in a million years 🤯

Hi, Marie, there is a bug for this operation like what you did, I don't know if you notice that, after you use template button to crate new task, and then drag them into Master Tasks Calendar, you can see those tasks automatically link to the project that you have already filtered first, But when you go to the Project Database, you will see there is no updated tasks!! [ I have tried serval times, it came out the same issues, Hope you have solved this problem!]

Hello Marie, Great Video. I am curious if there is a way to add content to each of those tasks within the template and have that content duplicate with the task? Perhaps some sub-task or an SOP, or even other digital content or links, and then have all that content also duplicate over to the new Product.

This is really cool. I so want to be able to use Notion for project management. But my thought is this process is pretty unwieldy when dealing with 40+ tasks per project (my case for web design). 😔 In Asana I can preserve the distance between tasks in a template, for example, and just drag a bunch tasks in timeline view to adjust due dates for new projects. If I could do something similar in Notion I'd be all in! Thanks for the video ♥️
@MariePoulin
@MariePoulin 3 жыл бұрын
You can do that in Notion. Put the timeline view on, and drag tasks into the timeline (in batches or individually)

Hi, Marie. I'm new to notion, I found out because the other tools I used weren't enough. But I am having a hard time learning. I saw your course. I have a question, are the classes on video and have subtitles? Because I'm Brazilian and I'm deaf. Captions help a lot. I wait for your answer to be able to think about hiring the course.

Hey Camila, We do text + video for almost all the lessons, and all office hours have transcripts. We also have the capacity to enable Closed Captions so I will have my assistant enable this for all videos!

Hi Marie, I've been using your method for over a year and I am very thankful. Only recently when editing a template with a button and an inline db, tasks dragged from within the button into the in line db, disappear (while they do not when creating a new project). Are you aware of this bug? Would you know where to look to solve it? Thank you in advance.

Awesome video, thank you. Regarding the videos project database, do you two projects database one for the content and one other project, and both linked to the master task list. i have many areas now and I don't know what's the best way to link it to one single task list

Hi Marie, I would like to ask you something I am trying to make wiith notion: I want to create a report CRM for each ticket that I create and that, every time I create a ticket, an email is sent to my client so that he can see the ticket with everything, or that the email sent has a template and that takes the data of the ticket and that email reaches the client. Do you think it would be possible? Also, I need a data base with all my clients and then, each client will have another table with all the details of every person who talk with us and belongs to that client. Thanks a lot and best wishes!

Is there a way to make the tasks in the project have a set date when dragging the tasks onto the database - e.g. today + 7 days, today +14 days etc
@paulcheetham2893
@paulcheetham2893 3 жыл бұрын
say for example, you want to stop filming the video project because its on hold "indefinitely" and you don't want todo any more tasks on it but may want to come back later, is there a way to make the project inactive which will stop all tasks from showing in the tasks database (preventing team from completing them), maybe you can use an inactive bool field per tasks that you check off individually per task, but ideally at project level?

Hey!! I'm sorry to ask this and I hope i don't seem ignorant but i don't know how to do exactly to only make the related tasks to show. I noticed in 2:21 you have a property that it's a relation with something called tasks, is that the master task database? In 3:19 you drag the tasks to the calendar and they show on that property, but when I try to add a property like that it doesn't appear to me. In 5:09 you set a filter to only show those tasks related to the video, and for that you have a relation with something called video and then set the "contains x" I am so so sorry if you explained it before but I don't understand how to do that (I have ADHD) is it bc i missed something or bc my notion is the last version? (I noticed this year is from three years ago)

Hi Marie, thank you for the helpful video! I have a question I was hoping you could help with. If I try to add an emoji to the tasks and then re-add to the template button, when I then drag those tasks into the master task calendar, the tasks do not link to the relation in my project database. Can you assist? Thank you!
@MariePoulin
@MariePoulin Жыл бұрын
its really hard to know without seeing your screen and what you're doing, but my guess would be that wherever you're dragging them into doesn't have the filter set to include "project = project name" relation!

Hello, I am watching your videos about the P.A.R.A method and one thing that I was unable to differentiate are "areas" and "Resources". I can't see clear differences about these two parts of the method, so I always get lost in the differentiation and separation between the two contents. I need some light to finally differentiate them. thx

Have you read the para article? praxis.fortelabs.co/the-p-a-r-a-method-a-universal-system-for-organizing-digital-information-75a9da8bfb37/ Areas are categories of responsibility, like health, finances etc. Resources are the *inputs* or information that you're storing that help you maintain those areas. An article about meal prepping is a resource that relates to the "Health" category. Area = area of responsibility, Resource = something that helps you grow/learn/maintain that area of responsibility.

I'm finding that the properties I set for each task page disappear when I add the pages back into the template button (like Marie does around 10:07). I'd like to think the solution is right in front of my face but I just can't figure it out. Anyone know why her pages keep their properties when moved out of the calendar and into the button and mine seem to vanish?
@sierrafrostad5909
@sierrafrostad5909 3 жыл бұрын
JK 🤦‍♀️ I figured it out. It seems the properties are still somehow invisibly stored in the page somehow, but don't show up until you drag them into the database.

Hi! I have a question. When I create a new template with a database inside. I want the database to be unique and editable for each template. So that the parent database doesn't change. Is it possible to do this in this way?
@MariePoulin
@MariePoulin Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do this by putting a new inline database inside the template, but i have no idea why you would want to do this... generating that many databases over time would get unwieldy, and then your info is only accessible inside those one project pages. It makes information much more challenging to manage

@@MariePoulin I manage projects through Notion. One project is one unique entity. But I have a common database of equipment and staff from which I assign to each specific project. It would be great if a new unique database was not created, but worked similarly to a google docs table. I don't understand how to do it the way I need it (

Thanks for the tutorial Marie! I do have a question - I find that when you do a template or a template button, that it overides the security level of sharing that you set in the template itself. Do you know a trick around that? I am using Notion as a team so the level of security is important. Thank you!
@MariePoulin
@MariePoulin 3 жыл бұрын
Oh great question... are you wanting the template to be shared or private..? I’ll have to play with this myself but tell me more about your particular use case?
@sitaraalaknandashakti1956
@sitaraalaknandashakti1956 3 жыл бұрын
Private. But our tasks master database is set for the entire team. So even when I set in the template and the template button restricted just for me to see, when I click into the template the security level of the tasks become accessible for the entire team again. So the template doesn’t seem to be able to override the security level of which the database is set.

You have to be sure that your button is also assigning the project relation, otherwise, they won't meet the filter criteria and are filtered out of your view!
