Oh my God! My Man! - How did you manage to turn a mechanical bull into an ejection seat? How much was the divorce?!?!? This is the funniest thing on You Tube!!! That took a lot of tenacity for sure. Well done dude. OMG - you made my day.

The test modes looked violent and scary, but once you were up and running in a sim, it all seemed to come together smoothly. Great effort Michel, cant wait till someone produces a commercial product that doesn't cost as much as a car.

You are absolutely right and thanks for your comments. My motion control software has been improved to support 2 modes since this video publication. 1st mode replicates roll accel and 2nd replicates roll position/speed. With open sky cockpit, I prefer 2nd mode. It’s also confusing to see the room moving while aircraft still tilted. Eventually with enclosed cockpit, I’ll switch to roll accel. Now I concentrate on functional cockpit before the enclosed one. See my Web Page for progress.

Looks like a lot of fun, and I'll give it a "Plus 2" for immersion factor! That said, if I build one to do any type of aerobatic or ACM, I'd definitely want a sturdier seat plus lap (& possibly shoulder) harness. All told though, it looks great fit bug smashers & bus drivers.. The next obvious step is to gimbal that bad boy for inverted flight! (You'll REALLY want the harness then, lol) Meantime, a few pieces of quarter-round will keep that mouse from falling off.. Overall? Sierra Hotel!

It must have been a blast when you first experienced this at home.

Thanks for comments. What you wrote is partly true. My motion control software has been improved since this video publication in order to mimic accelerations instead of aircraft movement. Nevertheless, platform physical limitations limits the platform ability to simulate high acceleration. See my Web Site (Page 6) for rational. Do a google search for FlightSim_Motion_Platform/washout_filters

You need to make friends with a welder or someone with a metal works or machine shop. What you have built is pretty amazing and the wood certainly keeps the cost down and is a very forgiving material. But now that you have the kinks worked out and have finish dimensions to work with, you should definitely put it all in a welded aluminum frame. At least that's why I'd do if I had your $$ and smarts !

Hi ! I noticed that when you are established in a continuous (supposedly coordinated) turn, the platform keeps on being banked. This is not correct: the platform shouldn't replicate the bank of the airplane, but the direction of the apparent weight. That means that as soon as you're established in the turn, the platform should not be banked, as there is no lateral component of the apparent weight.

Hi Michel, I visited your website and realized you did a lot of work on this project. I'm wondering if it is possible to hook up this system with a 6 degree of freedom platform. I want to make the platform myself and since I'm mechanical engineer and doesn't know much about electrical stuff, I wanted to make sure I have other instructions for electrical part of it . appreciate your feed back.

Nice job. My thoughts are that these Stewart Platform flight simulators take direct inputs from the control stick device making quick and accurate positioning of the platform based on this however the sim package may dampen these control inputs to more closely relate to the responsiveness of the aircraft or vehicle being operated. This is why it may seem that the aircraft in the sim is laggy in turning yet the 3DOF platform banks quickly based on stick input? Is this correct thinking? Not that is incorrect or any less entertaining to operate. I've seen some platform demos for race car games and it looks to be very drastic movement of the platform no where near what an actual drive would expect in an actual car unless he was almost on two wheels about to roll over! I suspect the platform don't take into account any over swear and just keeps banking the platform to its limits as to where an actual vehicle has a lot of vehicle weight to compensate oversteer resulting in other dynamics such as loss of traction inducing skids and such... Nice work none the less, there is a lot of work to pulling this level of project off, much respect!

As awesome as that is, how hard would it be to program it to read/angle off of the joystick/throttle axis data directly? Might not be as accurate but it should be 'close enough', and it would work with any sim/game that way. Or can windows only send joystick data to 1 program at a time?

nice work, i've been pondering building something like this for a while, i'm sure it would be a fun project to build one. but what is your impression about actually using it? does it enhance your flighing experience? does it make you feel motion sick? do you still use it and prefer it vs. sitting in a normal comfy chair?

***** Since I made this video you have seen, I improve the motion Platform software to better reproduce lateral accelerations by developing the Motion Cues with Washout Filters Algorithm. I also added a Triple LCD Display for Eyefinity / Surround Viewing. (See my web pages) With both add-ons, it enhances a lot the flight experience. I really appreciate the feeling of landing, braking and takeoff. The roll is more appreciated with small aircraft. It does not make me feel sick. I wish to make it enclosed but I am scared there is not enough room, the basement ceiling is too low. Thanks for writing.
