Saved a some money on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee; 6 cy, 4.0L, w/AC, repairing a power steering fluid leak that I couldn't find while pump was on the vehicle. The pump and reservoirs can be purchased separately which meant the units have a non-factory seal between them. Most likely O-rings. Removing the pump unit on a hunch paid off. They are in fact 2 O--rings that are used, and available at hardware stores. A #11 for the lower pressure between reservoir and pump, a #6 for the high pressure coming out of the top of the pump. Cleaned fittings well, slipped O-rings on and re-installed unit for a total cost $2.51. Fitting sizes may be different pending manufacturer's design. #11 = 1/2"ID x 5/8" OD x 1/8" H. #6 = 1/4" ID X 5/16" OD x 3/32H. TIP: The high pressure O-ring deforms to fit as it is compressed by fitting. Compare to one removed.

Hey Dan! Was going to say you need to do the gas prop upgrade to your hood, then noticed it already has them. Upcoming quick project. One of the best upgrades I've done to my XJ. And btw, heading to the pull and save for my power steering bracket today. God bless, stay well.

I prefer to take the pully off before taking the pump off, but that's mostly because I've worked on cars that you couldn't take the pump off with the pully installed. I had fun a few months ago when my power steering pulley exploded on my 5.2 ZJ going down the interstate one Sunday evening. Thing was so old that when I tried to pull what was left of the pully off it snapped off the lip that the puller holds on to. New pump, pully and lines later and the slightly weird feeling I got in the steering disappeared. Go figure.

Here is the problem. It may be a lifetime warranty and they will replace it for free. What if when it fails to cause more damage than the free replace part that went bad too soon or not the right timing. When you can't afford the good parts but you can't afford not to buy them. Leaves people like me between a Rock and a Hard place. LOL
