5:55 FYI that is not paint, its ink on the Lenox blade. It is designed to flake off and be removed during use to prevent binding or sticking like traditional paint. They use this same technique on their hole saws to prevent sticking of the plug. That might be another test is hole saws. The arc is designed for when a human uses the blade with a "rocking" motion. The Diablo and Lenox are pretty much neck and neck though.

I’m a 40 year Ninja Veteran of Sawzall skill. My favorite is the Lennox Bi metal blades. Teeth per inch is vital in performance thru various materials. 14-18 is just about perfect for material you demonstrated. The harder the material the finer the TPI. One thing that is not taken to account is for the user to not use just one spot in the blade; the build up of heat is quick and is a killer of teeth. Good job on testing though. Keep them coming.

Great video! So, I use bi-metal recip blades on a cordless sawzall and regular hacksaws a lot. I often work in remote locations where getting new blades or recharging the battery isn't an option. Therefore I find myself trying to get the most life from my blades as possible. I have been doing this for over 20 years. People that watch me cut steel are often amazed by how fast I can cut through thick steel with a hack saw and how long my sawzall blades last. I always tell them the secret is in the lubricant. The best lube that I have found for blade wear and ease of use is candle wax! I keep a hand full of cheap "tea light" candles in a little plastic box in my tool kit. Wax lube will double or triple the life of a blade. Wax doesn't leak and is easy to apply. HEAT is the blade killer! Stroke it sloowwly. To make your recip blades last a really long time, only let it cycle about 3 strokes per second. It will take longer to make your cut but it can easily increase the useful life of the blade by 3 or more times, even without lube. I watched your drill cutting lube comparison video and it made think of this video. I would love to see a video comparing the useful life extending properties of different lubricants. Maybe paraffin wax, bees wax, motor oil, cooking oil and Tap Magic cutting oil. Thanks for the videos.

I'm glad that you're expanding out with more non-lawnmower videos. ;) When you do the testing for the carbide blades, I hope to also see a comparison of whether you get more cuts per dollar out of them compared to the bimetal, in both wood and metal. I mean not especially hard metal, which would obviously dull the bimetal blades too quickly. I'd also like to see what effect cutting oil has on blade longevity. Cut times themselves, I know people paid by the job need to get work done fast but I'm not as concerned with cutting time as value, though I do recognize that cutting time goes up due to blades dulling faster, but also because of a thicker kerf and I tend to gravitate towards those demo blades because the are more resistant to kink-bending.

After doing a huge amount of demo on my own house, and later paying contractors to finish and frame in the new additions. I personally have had no luck with any of Diablo’s products. Neither have my contractors. We went threw diablo twice as fast as dewalt. And later I switched to Lennox. And I have seen the best long term results from them. Well worth the cost for me.

The Diablo blade, on the bed frame cut, appeared to jump around a lot more than the others before cutting in. Just on observation from the marks shown. Another great video! Thank you.

back in my commercial plumbing days lenox was the blade to go with and we tried a lot of different blade manufactures diablo wasn't around from our supplier back then i have used diablo since and love them and they are not a crazy price again another down to earth video thanks PS never thought to try cutting fluid with a blade wonder how that would perform or last

Thank you! I should test cutting fluid with these blades.

Hell yeah. Proves what Ive already found working in my shop. Diablo simply is the best and most durable. I often cut stainless steel and most blades are trash after 1 cut. Diablo I can usually get several cuts. And it cuts easier!

A good friend of owns a hardware store, while preparing to remodel my parents bathroom he suggested a Diablo carbide blade for cutting the cast iron main stack (it cut it in about 45 seconds). I can confirm it’s amazing. They’re very expensive, but his store was asked by local first responders to carry that blade for use in extracting people from wrecked cars. You cannot go wrong with a Diablo.

Great point on the Diablo carbide blade! It's tough!

This was a great and realistic test of what your viewers are using their blades for on an every day basis. Thanks for setting up this test and sharing it with us. When you run out of regular blades to test, it would be interesting to see how a well-made carbide chain saw blade compares to the regular name brand blades that have to be sharpened frequently, using the same farm-duty chain saw. After that, can a modestly priced wood chisel be sharpened with enough precision to match the performance of those specialty-maker expensive chisels, and how much difference is there between mediocre and expensive wood chisels when all have been optimally sharpened. Thanks again for you video. Everybody looks forward to seeing your next test.

I usually prefer diablo and Lenox. Available in local big box stores. I usually use diablo nail embedded wood. They cut pvc, steel pipe, and wood. Last at least half a dozen cuts in 1.5” steel pipe. Cut fast. They are cheap. Great video, per usual for you! Happy Thanksgiving!

Your videos are as always helpful, informative and you always try to find out all variables and keep them even throughout. I love your videos and how much you try to keep testing consistent. The only thing I would suggest is using the fence on the sawzall tool so that way there is virtually no extra "wobble" I'm the Saw's movement. I hope to continue seeing more amazing videos from you!

I would use a 10-14 variable pitch blade on the steel like you cut. I used them for 15 years cutting porcelain-enamel coated steel and sometimes cast iron. The Milwaukee outperformed the Lennox, Diablo, and the rest. I put a few hundred blades through my Sawzall. With an adjustable foot, I could use up the entire blade.

If you have any questions for me I have a lot of knowledge on cutting metal. I primarily have used bandsaw to cut material to be used in cnc machines. I went through hell learning the ins and outs out of a automated bandsaw. The main thing you need to know is what type of metal your working with and what it's made of. The best metal I've found has 20-25% chrome and about 5-7 nickel. Aka 2507. Duplex steel is 2507 25% chrome and 7% nickel. This is metal that truly won't rust. 304 ss will still rust. 2507 is used in salt water because it resist corrosion so well.

Great test. I bought Diablo blades to cut some 8 grade bolts. They were the only ones that stood up. I think speed is a good consideration, but also the condition of the blade after the test should also be documented. thanks.

"The Torch" model of Sawzall blades is Milwaukee's top bi-metal blade. The model you tested is their entry blade. The Lennox Gold and Diablo Steel Demon are top line blades. I would like to see a comparison to top of the line models and include Bosch "The Edge" blades. Great videos. Keep up the good work.
