[How To] FTP Files To PS2 Using UlaunchELF and FlashFXP

If your PS2 is running UlaunchELF, did you know you can setup a static IP address to it so you can easily transfer files to it?
Yes, actually you can and it's pretty cool. I use FlashFXP so I can transfer cover art files and .elf files to the PS2 back and forth without the hassle of using USB. I love it and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy!
Note: This assumes you have a softmodded or modchip PS2 that can run UlaunchELF. If you do not, then this tutorial will not help you, sorry!

hey dude, firstly I'd like to thank you a ton for all of your support, walkthroughs and efforts! You made life way way way easier with my ps2 modding and configuring. ATM this is the method I'm using to play my ps2 library with the current version of opl, current version of opl manager and all games configured at recommended modes. My last two goals will be setting up optional cheats and the one which brings me here is to complete game details in opl. I've got half of them entered in opl manager but it doesn't seem to mimic it in opl like the art does. I've looked on forums and have had no luck on finding guides on how to enter game details into opl. My other issues are that I have created an account for both ps2 home and psx scene to ask questions but neither allowed me to sign in after registration, which very well could be on my end but I thought I'd let you know. Sorry to be reaching you though this video.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia it allows you to enter then info and modes etc. But it doesn't transfer the info to opl... I messaged the developer of the manager and all he had for a response was it is a opl limitation. Is there any way to just manually enter the info in opl?

Thank you for all the videos that you post! I am playing games via network and everything is working fine. The issue is that I can create a VMC on my drive with OPL but it doesn't save on it. I set everything in OPL, and the fact it does create a VMC file on my PC HDD shows that everything has read/ write access. But why doesn't it save? The game sees the VMC, and when I chose to save, it "saves" it but when I want to load, it's empty. Any ideas? Also I have windows 10.

2:12 When I press start or click on Start: PS2Net , mine lingers on 'Loading NetFS and FTP Server Modules...' and freezes there. I have to reboot or turn off PS2. I don't know what to do. It's yet another failed method of my attempt to connect to my PS2.

I'm having trouble with FlashFXP ethernet transfer using Ulaunch.elf. Everytime I transfer I get to about 90% and the PS2 freezes. It freezes using filezilla and windows browser as well. Any suggestions?

OPL Manager seems to have this FTP option, but it doesn't work for me, even if network settings are fine (I can transfer games through network with HDL Dump Helper + HDL Server). Did you ever tried that option? EDIT: I found the problem; it was the *uLaunchElf version* that I was using. I was using the version 4.43a from 2014!! I updated to the September 2017 version and now the OPL Manager's FTP option is working fine!! And I made a test here and it seems that I can also use the native windows FTP option to manipulate files.

Going off of memory, make the PS2 into DHCP mode and then from router you can find out what is the ps2 IP address.

Hey guys, my configuration is opl1358, ps2 slim with an wrt smb router and usb hdd connected to the router via its usb port. My question is can i access the hdd content via the ulaunch, can i browse the folders, rename isos etc. So to be clear, i am able to see the games via the opl launcher and boot them, everything works fine, but can i see the same somehow via the ulaunch file manager or something similar via the PS2 console itself.

I don't think the ps2 is that sophisticated where you are on ulaunchelf and you can navigate to the network share on the router and modify and rename files. It maybe quicker to do it manually on pc.

I can't save the ipconfig file on uLaunchElf for some reason, there is 3MB free on my FreeMCBoot card so I'm not sure why.

Can I use Filezilla instead of FlashFXP? Edit: I tried it. Works, but you must disable TLS when adding a site. Apart from that it works without any issues.

For using with FileZilla, go to site manager add your ps2’s ip and set encryption to plain ftp,

Problems with my other adapter. It will work with another FTP program but ps2net will not work. IP/net mask/gateway is correct. Pinging ends up in unreachable host. any clues?

Is it a firewall issue somewhere blocking the port? If we can get pings working then there is hope for ftp transfer. To be honest, maybe old school manual transfer via usb is less hassle.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia fixed the problem. Used a lower version of ule verything worked just fine. Go figure. Only thing is i cant copy anything to the hdd. Everything is i can read and write.

Mine won't connect no matter what I do. However I can use OPL via LAN to play games and they work just fine. I am using PS2 Slim SCPH-77004 PAL with FMCB 1.953 and Launch Elf v4.33a with default network settings which are 192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.0.1 PS2 is connected directly to a PC using a normal cat5e cabel with all settings in network sharing center set as yours. The adapter is set to 192.168.0.5 255.255.255.0 Using the same program FlashFXP to connect to 192.168.0.10:21 gives me connection timed out. The adapter shows the connection as unidentified public network. Please help. Tnx.

I don't know, how can I check that? I installed FlashFXP with all default settings. Also tried FileZilla but same thing. I think I am missing something but I triple checked everything.

When you start PS2Net it says "Loading NetFS and FTP Server modules" for a few seconds and then shows you the network settings but mine says "Loading HDD modules" for a few seconds and then "Loading NetFS and FTP Server Modules" for like a 0.2sec it goes so fast I had to record a video to see that message. Idk how to fix this. Any suggestions?

Project Phoenix Media I am no sure but that is the only different thing that happens to me. Every other settings are set as yours. I have a feeling mine does not open ps2net sucesfully despite showing the adressea at the top of tge screen. How exactly do I ping my ps2 over cmd if I use one ethernet port on the pc for the ps2 and the other ethernet port for the modem/internet? How will windows know which adapter to use when doing a ping command?

I don't really use VMC in general, but I have to believe there is a way to make backup of the save files or vmc files. See ps2 home or psx place forums for more help on the topic

As far as i can tell, via this method you are only able to transfer files to the memory card or an attached USB thumb drive. You cant transfer to an internal hard drive via this method.

Neat tutorial but I was looking for totally the opposite, I was looking to have access from my PS2 to the Virtual Memory Cards created by opl in the server to copy back some of the saves made in the actual memory card, I'm guessing it's not possible

Yea that is not possible from what I recall. Maybe a developer will be kind enough to tackle that on but I am doubtful. Networking on the ps2 isn't the best compared to other consoles.

FTP in UlaunchELF is busted as shit. In FileZilla I have to set the max upload rate to 100kbs or its crashes the FTP server on the PS2... like really. How was this not tested.

@@ProjectPhoenixMedia I can transfer games using other methods at 10mb a sec. The FTP server is just busted. Original Xbox FTP server works fine. FTP is just a protocol running over TCP which works fine on the PS2. TCP has been around forever. Someone should really look into this at some point as its way better for homebrew dev.

Just because the PS2 is connected to the PC direct, it doesn't have to be that way. I could have easily used a router or a network switch. As long as the PS2 has an ip address, you can connect to it from the PC via this method. This is really a niche method, I don't really use it that often.
