I have this exact setup and I’m here because the stand finally gave out yesterday. I bought the direct replacement DWX726 (updated) stand. It’s slightly improved over my old one. But the old one was now 15 years old! I can’t saw enough about this saw/stand combo. It’s tough as hell and easily the best saw I’ve used

I encourage you, or anyone else, to get the DeWalt DWX726 Rolling Miter Saw Stand. These are ~$250, but can be purchased from Open Box (OBA, etc.) dealers for $110±. These are a one-time purchase item and likely will last as long, or longer, than your saw. These are great for smaller shops because they have a “fold-up” option. I’ve had the DeWalt DWX723 Heavy Duty Miter Saw Stand version for years. It was the ‘typically DeWalt great’ construction, but its sprawling legs just took up too much floor space in my small shop. These are generally about $25-$50 more (a lot less expensive if you can find an Open Box version) than the DeWalt DWX726. So, for a little bit more, would be a more versatile, smaller-foot print stand: definitely worth the extra expense and with more 'options.'

I bought an almost exact saw back in December, mine is the DWS779, looks like it's the model without the light, which I wasn't aware of until I saw this video... At the time, the saw was $450 with the at the time free (normally $300) DWX723 DeWalt Aluminum Adjustable Miter Saw Stand, which is another awesome addition! The 30 degree detent is just an arbitrary 'standard', like the 15 degree setting. In the US you guys like the 31.something setting because you do a lot of crown mouldings. I have been an all-round carperter/builder for some 40 years in Dutchland and Kiwiland and have never come across crown mouldings. On the 780, it really is nice looking and feature rich machine, but at over 25kg and the size of Dodge truck, it is not for me. Size does matter. I'm still using my DeWalt version of the old Elu PS174 with a 216mm (8.5") blade. There is very little I can't cut with that size blade.

Responding to your thumbnail question “should a DIYer buy the Dewalt DS780”, I think not. This saw has a wicked kick as you squeeze the trigger and when you release it. If it’s only for DIY I would recommend a battery operated version or one with less power - it would be safer. The new Flexvolt 60 volt saw is smooth, has enough power, and has better dust collection albeit on the expensive end. A ten inch or smaller saw would do the job.

Hey Bill! I’ll get a 10 incher for review one of these days. It’s true the 12 is bulky and heavy and it probably more than most folks need unless it’s got it’s own station and never moves. Honestly I used the circ saw most of the time and only get the big saw out for large jobs with tons of miters. Thanks for the comment!

As a homeowner I guarantee you want the 12" slider unless you like cutting base flat using bevel. I can cut my 5" base standing up. Cutting anything but tiny nested crown will be a problem as well.
@jojopotato6177
@jojopotato6177 11 ай бұрын
I can't cut my 5"1/2 baseboard stand up vertically 45 degrees with a 10" saw. Unless you go for a bevel cut. But you may lose the accuracy, and it's harder too. That's why I gave up and bought this monster.

I have a 12 inch Admiral sliding miter saw from HF that cost $230, and it cuts fine and has managed to do everything that I have needed it to. BUT, there are tons of adjustments on that DeWalt that would certainly come in handy. The biggest problem I have with the Admiral is that I have to square everything up all over again every single time that I move it around, which for me is every single time that I use it. And that gets old really quick. I guess it's always a choice,...you can either spend more money, or you can spend more time.

Hello again! I own a lot of harbor freights stuff. When it comes to them I try to stick to things without moving parts. I have the big welding cabinet, oxyacetylene cart, 4x8 trailer. Lately I’ve been trying out some icon tools just out of curiosity. That said I was on they’re site 10 min ago looking at the table saws. I think it’s time for a budget saw review. Might do Ryobi or craftsman. Fact is HF tools sell because it’s what a lot of folks can afford and there’s nothing wrong with that. Would be cool if we could find the good stuff though. As always thanks for watching!
@nathan1sixteen
@nathan1sixteen Жыл бұрын
From my experience, HF is great for hand tools (wrenches, sockets, hammers, etc), but I’d steer clear of their power tools. I know the Herculese line has improved greatly over the past few years, but who knows what longevity looks like, and in reality, you aren’t saving a whole lot on their stuff vs DeWalt, and you know the quality of the yellow tools it top-tier.

@@ProjectsForAllReviews I've been looking at budget table saws lately, and the portable job site saw from Skil, with the built in legs, looks really good for the money. ($329) It has more features than the Hercules table saw from Harbor Freight that costs $400.

I agree as the prices at HF go up they look less attractive to me. I saw the $400 job saw and thought better to wait a month and save $200. For $600 you get to pick one from the top brands. Doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.

Just purchased this saw. Would you recommend keeping the original blade on there or going with another one? If another blade, how many teeth would you suggest?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Жыл бұрын
Good question! I never saw the included blade for this one. My buddy only uses Diablo blades and that's what you see in the vid. How to select a blade is an important topic I probably should have made a video for already but really it comes down to what you are using it for. Most saws come with general purpose blades that work ok for most applications but don't excel at any particular one. If you're doing Rough Framing the included blade is probably fine until it wears out and then Id switch to a low tooth count framing blade. If you're going to do hobby style fine woodworking Id usually ditch the included blade for a high tooth count Fine Finish blade. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions. great saw, crap stand. I had one and sold it after a day. The constant bending over and lifting is for the birds and begs for a back injury. Gravity type stand like the ridgid MS-UV is waaaaay better. Just step on a small foot release and it practically unfolds itself. of course the out rigger supports still want to sag which is an issue with all these stands so its no worse or better in that respect but for folding/unfolding nothing beats it. I would never buy this stand. I also have a bosch table saw on the bosch gravity stand and while its pretty good the ridgid is still easier to deploy.
