No one plays the flute like James Galway. He's truly one of a kind.

This Prokofiev violin concerto 2 has been and remains one of my very favorite pieces of music since I was 19. I am now 76 and as completely thrilled as I've ever been !!!

Are you sure that your comment applies to this sonata? I agree with you about the violin Concerto n° 2.

@@efrainsotomayor399 Also, this is not a concerto. Prokofiev Violin Concerto no 2 refers to an entirely different composition in g minor.

Dear Anita, I've been saying that very thing too, for decades..how gifted and with a complete understanding of the range of instruments. proper form, etc.....that will have to be some other lifetime for me... Try Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp.... Cheers from Texas.

As far as I know, Prokofiev wrote first this version for fulte and piano then transribed it for violin, which makes its second sionata for violin and piano. In USSR, the censorship of Stalin and Jdanov forced Prokofiev to simplify his style. Fortunately, he succeeded to write such beautiful things as this sonata, but he became very anxious about each new work he was doing. It is wonderful to see an international soloist like Marta Argerich to play such works, in which the star is obvously the flute, while th piano hes rather a second role. This is a top level intepretation, needless to say.
@gcg81874 жыл бұрын
agree, this is a fantastic integration. I have also been listening to Argerich for year
@vincent-ataramaniko3 жыл бұрын
Well yes the piano is usually a second role here but it does have a few parts where it's supposed to sing and the flute supports it.
@artiesst66610 ай бұрын
Yes, it was an original flute Sonata. Serge Prokofjev thought there should be more music written for flute...!!! Very demanding flute technique. James Galway at his best.

I’m normally not a Galway fan but I really like this recording that he did with The Lioness of the Piano herself (aka Martha Argerich). I realize now that I prefer young Galway over the Galway of recent years.😊❤️👏👏👏👏
