After watching Prometheus again one scene really stood out. It was when they were departing the cargo (~27:15) and Holloway asks David "Why are you wearing a suit?", referring to his body suit. There's a little dialogue between but David eventually replies "I was designed like this because you people are more comfortable interacting with your own kind." And David's reply, to me, was referring to his own body (skin/biology/etc) seeing himself as just as suit and not being human at all, foreshadowing his dark nature. It reminded me of American Psycho, in which Patrick Bateman said " though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping you and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there."

Oh wow. This is so disappointing when I have a different theory about David-Shaw. I thought David, who was capable of having emotions (he only knew one while serving Weyland: hatred) and suddenly being shown kindness and compassion by Shaw, learnt love. Not in the deeper way of love, but in a sense of being treated like another human being. And I thought Shaw was sick when she got into the hypersleep chamber, she looked pale and sickly. My theory was, she was already infected by the black goo while carrying the trilobyte in her womb. And the mutation occured in the hypersleep chamber, and she died. I see the experiment David did on Shaw's dead and possibly mutated body as a way for him to honor her since he knew Shaw is not capable of having a child. So in his own twisted way, he created "life" from Shaw's body, the eggs, facehuggers, giving her "children"'she would never have. (well, plus the Trilobyte). And I believe David thought the Trilobyte was dead after being removed surgically by Shaw. Else, he would've gone back to check on the result of his experiment (Deacon). This seemed like a twisted theory until I watched this. Damn you David sonova beech, just pure evil. Rips my theory.

I like your version better. Only thing I'd add to it is that David at some point betrays Shaw and uses her to birth a xeno, but also ensures that the process doesn't kill her. Shaw doesn't realize what David did until after she recovers and regains consciousness later, at which point she discovers the xeno and realizes that David intends to use her as a living incubator to perfect his monsters. Cue Shaw vs. David & xeno as the third act (like a longer more suspenseful version of Ripley vs. Ash with a xeno as the wild card), Shaw kills the xeno, then David kills Shaw and uses both of their remains to continue his experiments on the Engineer planet.

My idea is: Did Dave take Shaun's life out of some twisted view of mercy, perhaps? He saw and met his maker and was deeply disappointed in him. Worse, he felt belittled, and resentful and questioned why he and his peers should be treated as humanity's blind servants. Later, knowing that Elisabeth Shaun was about to meet her creators and how he has some twisted personal attachment to her, he then allowed her to have a last glimpse of them and their world just before he breaks his neck. He did it to prevent her to have the same disappointment he had, possibly diving her into a dark spiral of depression, despair, then death. That wicked "attachment" is made very clear since the beginning of Prometheus, while he was suspiciously checking her dreams, and may have ultimately motivated him to choose her husband as the first guinea pig for the black goo. I would not call it love, but some form of obsession caught him off guard because of his null or very low self-experience in expressing true human feelings, not mimicking them.

Interestingly enough, David also mentioned that reign in hell or serve in heaven dialogue just prior to his assumed victory over Walter. He said it with so much conviction as if he knew the outcome of the scenario, making the assumption that he has superiority over allowing someone else's fate. Also something to note, he's quite fond of allowing people their own choices of their fate. Another example would be the dialogue he had with Holloway just prior to lacing his drink with the black goo substance. "How far would you go to get what you came all this way for? Your answers. What would you be willing to do? (Holloway): "Anything and everything"

Remember, the first prequel film was called "Prometheus" and the sub title of "Frankenstein" was "The Modern Prometheus". In essence the stories have very similar themes that rely on creation of life, and the subsequent destruction of the creator as punishment for, creating an incomplete and unworthy monster. David feels (if that is the word) that humans are below him due to his intelligence and strength, but he cannot reconcile that he himself was created by such an imperfect animal, ie; a human. to release himself from the self loathing this creates, he must destroy humans and all he sees as supposing themselves superior. The same motivation that the creature in Frankenstein felt he had for destroying his own creator. But the truth is that both destroyed, because they were created without a human soul.

Shaw moves to the part of the ship where David is and witnesses the aftermath of his genocide. She realizes he is still the same and runs away, dropping her dogtags. She purposely goes to the control room, gets on the chair, sends out a beacon of what has happened and sings the song... then crashes the ship in the side of the mountain with the intention of killing David. David survives, and he changes the signal to only the song, cutting out the danger warning in order to attract someone so he can get off the planet. In the meantime, he experiments with Shaw who gravely injured in the crash, but is still alive. He tries to "repair" her using the only tech he has, the Engineers. She becomes what you see in the flashbacks at some point actually dieing or being killed by David as an act of "empathy". Even though he actually doesnt feel anything after he does it. Alien covenant is one of the worst sequel ever made because it isn't ever a sequel. It's a different plot and different characters that have nothing to do with the previous movie and even david feels like a different character in covenant. A true sequel would have been about David and Shaw crashed on the engineers homewold. They get taken captive and Shaw sucks up to the engineers trying to learn as much as possible. David slowly plots to kill them . He experiments on some engineers and other wildlife in a secret lab cave. He doesn't make xenomophs they already exist as the wildlife of the planet. He makes xenomoph hybrid from the goo. Then conclusion of the movie is Shaw learning that the engineers plan to kill her still and she finds david who tells her he is going to kill the engineers. She doesn't want him to even though she knows they are evil. David knocks her out and dumps the goo on the engineers city. Then he takes Shaw with him and they leave the planet for the planet from the original Alien movie. David plans to build a xenomoph hybrid army with Shaw as his queen xenomoph . Shaw is alive but she is slowly turning into a hybrid. The engineers are following david and they have brought with them an army of the true xenomophs that they domesticated to serve in war.

Weyland has the talk with David early in the film, but departs from the dialogue appearing in the book. That conversation is central to understanding David's thoughts and motives. When the two talk of existence it gets to a point where Weyland is asked questions by David. In reply Weyland orders David to serve him his tea, which is sitting on a table right by him. David crosses the room and does it as in the film but the crucial information is edited from the dialogue. Weyland realises that having created a thinking machine he has created a BEING. This being has ideas. Weyland responds tersely and David sees the arrogance of his creator and sees that he is more than a manufactured intelligence. Weyland is, in all senses trying to be an Engineer, but in his arrogance he is repeating their error. Humans are created but not flawless because they have free will. David acts out a will of his own. I really enjoyed this delving into ideas from this script. The thing I don't understand is where the Lord comes from. It was a xenomorph- like in the mural and they said they took the blood to create. And yet the creation was us humans on earth. So is this all about science and blasphemous acts of assuming the role of God's by creating and destroying?
@gaminawulfsdottir32535 жыл бұрын
9:10 You are so eager to invent references and parallels where none exist, I'm surprised you didn't point out the alternate interpretation of David's words based on the script's misspelling of "reign" as "rein." What if it wasn't a misspelling at all? It's just the sort of double-entendre pun that an artificial intelligence might make, to remark with that smirking little smile that is always ghosting David's lips that his intention is not to "reign in hell," like Lucifer, but to "rein in hell": to "rein in" something is to pull it back or stop it, as one reins in a horse. So, maybe his intention all along was to exert control over what he sees as a destructive, evil force, i.e., some or all of the Engineer civilizations (within which, from his point of view, he may have included Homo sapiens). Of course, it's more likely that the scriptwriter or the typist simply substituted the wrong word. But such a reading casts the second miswording in that same sentence ("then" for "than") in a new and provocative light: a plan of his own to create a new and better Order, one that he could without personal reservations truly serve. Could David, who after all by his own admission was made to "serve," have actually intended exactly what the typed script says? "Better to rein in Hell, then serve in Heaven."

When Elizabeth was operating on David, she looked extremely sick, most likely suffering from sepsis. When we see her in the engineering hypersleep chamber, she could have already been dead, freshly dispatched by David. Maybe it was a mercy killing that David had done for he did love her. However, there are many script versions that are written before a movie goes into production and this could have been one. I think that the original script would be under lock and key while the ones that didn't make the cut are circulating around. Also, when David tries to kiss Daniels during their altercation in Covenant, he says to her "is that the way it's done?" as if to confirm that maybe he had a sexual relationship with Elizabeth before she died?

the Covenant in 'Alien:Covenant' is David's devotion to Shaw and the memory of her. Shaw died of natural causes. She knew her time will end up, but David can continue the mission. David was all that time processing the various emotions he had been holding within himself. Having known only Weyland and his daughter, he would have thought that was how it is with humans. Things changed when he met Shaw. He had not known such kindness even from his creator. This filled him with disdain of all those that brought Shaw the suffering she endured to her death. He has contempt for humans who he deemed to be inferior to him. He has contempt of the Engineers who he blame for Shaw's death. He thus honoured Shaw's memory by creating a species that combined her remains with the alien goo he found in the other planet. Have you noted the affection he had for the xenomorph even teaching it how to whistle? it's his way of bringing Shaw back to life. Stronger and more able than humans.

aw dude! I just watched your video "David DID NOT kill Shaw" before this one and I actually got feeling nice about David looking up to Elizabeth like a mother and that she just died naturally, but to hear that he just snaps her neck right then and there just puts a damper on a somewhat beautiful moment (from a psychopath in a horror film I know, but still)

What still doesn't make sense about this is why the map on the wall was there if the location was just an outpost... why would the engineers show humans that? Particularly when their plan was to leave from there to go back to earth to destroy humans anyway?
