Yes‼️on a brides maids side zipper it was to small. I chose to keep the zipper in place, used small loops , inter flap with thin satin ribbon client happy because I saved her some 💵 and I was happy as well that I didn't have to worry about having to deal Satin creating runs "all done by hand"👍

Hello. Do you still manage your facebook group? I just joined but it looks like mostly people self-advertising. Thanks. Oh. I also opened up my daughter’s cheer letter jacket to sew down her iron on patch that came loose after washing and would not stay down with glue. I did okay for most of it with a ladder stitch closure until I came closer to the top. It’s not something you would know unless you’re looking but I want to get better at hiding the work and making my finishes the best they can be. Also, I realize the video is a year old. Your KZbin shorts brought me here.

Hi… you will do great things because you are trying!! Nothing was ever accomplished by saying, “Someday I’m gonna try that… lol. If you’re a little hesitant hit a secondhand shop. Look for a top, dress, skirt… what ever is closest to the zipper, take-in, etc. that you need to accomplish. You’ve seen Monde’s projects. She chk’s it out… for the best possible solution, with the least invasive approach. Good luck… you can do this!! And for Monde… look at the sewers that you inspire!! Love your channel!!❤

Thanks for all the great information! I’m getting back into doing a lot of alterations after a career at the post office. If I can ask, how do you determine your pricing? Hourly rate or by the specific project? I had to totally remake a dress for someone ( pleated crossover bodice, raise the waist, hem the tulip bottom with multiple layers etc.) The customer kept adding to the work to be done. I was at a loss at what to charge her so I just made up a number!?!??? 😮 Thanks!!!

I just have to ask you how do you get paid? One of sewists' biggest problems is getting paid a fair rate for their work. It seems that everyone today want couture level sewing at Walmart clearance prices!!!
@uelueluesue
@uelueluesue 5 ай бұрын
Yes! I’m wondering the exact same thing!! Obviously these dresses are TERRIBLE dupes of intricate garments that are probably very expensive from the actual designer. Are these clients paying more than they would have for the original dress by going cheap with the dupe AND then having to get it altered?? If they didn’t want to pay what the actual garment costs from the jump, are they also trying to ‘save’ when getting it fixed?!?

@scorpioninblue I love sewing for other people! If it's a small/ reasonable project for a friend, I'll sew it for free. If it's a large project or for someone I don't really know (often requested by someone who doesn't know how long sewing can take), I will politely decline, or give an estimate of how much I would charge for my labour.

Hi! You have my highest admiration for sharing your skills with others.......most sewists don't like sewing for others or doing alterartions. The majority of non-sewing people have no sense of the time and patience involved in eiher creating a well made garment or skillfully altering one to a clients wishes. They are always looking for the cheapest way out with no regard for paying a fair rate to the sewist/dressmaker. Its just a matter of time when word gets out....... that a novice sewist will encounter the 'gimmepigs' who will try and take advantage! All I'm saying is beware who you reveal your skills too!!......@@AnnAnonyme

@@daisukidatotoro Yeah, she did taper more, but then you can see where it's pulling and wrinkling at the waist. That's just it, if you took in at the side seams you wouldn't NEED to reset the zipper! I love your videos but shouldn’t you use a thimble? It helps you to hand sew much more quickly and saves your fingers. If you’re charging a flat rate, it’s even more important to sew fast by using a thimble.
@stephgreen3070
@stephgreen3070 6 ай бұрын
There have only been a couple times in life where I’ve ever thought “I wish I had a thimble.” This dress looks like a very light fabric and a thimble wouldn’t be necessary with a fabric like this. It’s a personal preference for sure, but if I’m trying to keep a thimble on when I don’t need it, I spend more time trying not to lose the thimble off my finger than it would ever save me in the long run. YMMV, of course.

@@annseabolt6645I know you won’t but using a thimble helps you sew much faster and saves your fingers. Historically, before the sewing machine, people used thimbles so that they could sew more efficiently. It’s objectively better and I don’t say that about a lot of things 😂
