I'm from Scotland where most of us finish school at 17/18. At my prom each table came with three bottles of Prosecco and we were handed glasses of champagne as we arrived. There was also a bar where anyone could buy drinks, no matter the age. Our teachers were there as guests with us and not supervisors, so they were all getting drunk with us! It was great! And of course ALL the guys wore kilts, and everyone looked amazing

I went to an actual small rural school in America and we had didn’t even have 500 kids in the entire school, which was k-12, so we had about 50 kids at prom. People would either drive their tractor, combine, or truck to prom or they would borrow a sort of nice car from a neighbor. We’re so freaking American that kids would drive tractors to school on a daily basis if they were to young to drive and we used to be allowed to keep guns in our cars

Well the concept of hogwarts came from British private schools. We have houses, which we compete in in sports, house plays etc and you’re awarded points from winning some of the events mention above and in academic achievements which would then be tallied up at the end of the year and they would announce the winning house at the end of school assembly. You’re put into a house randomly btw when you first start school, there isn’t some way of picking. That is unless you’ve had a family member who went to that school. Then you’d be placed in the same house. You’d also have house common rooms.

I have gone to a total of 2 proms (Primary School and Secondary School) and I went to an all-girls' school in SG :p. You'd go with all your friends and just hang out until all the food had been served. Primary School prom was more just graduation dinner really while Secondary School was more formal, where you wore nice+expensive dresses and it was held in the ballroom of a 5-star hotel. We were served a 5-course meal I think, it was really fun. Also, prom only happens after the GCE O Levels were over.

I think it would be an interesting video to hear about drug culture British vs American. I know Evan that you have never smoked anything in your life and never will but you must of heard stories of friends or people doing something in high school and it seems from 7:02 that Dodie has a few stories to tell. I don't know I just think it would be cool. Unless you don't want to influence your audience in that way then obviously don't do it. I'm waffling

Evan Edinger Maybe do it with 3 people instead then like this video. That way I guess it would be less vital for you to be contributing funny anecdotes if there were already 2 people doing the same. OR you could make a super super sarcastic joke video where someone like Dodie is saying their "experiences" of like hard drugs and just blatantly lying about everything and you could be sharing stories of taking paracetamol when ill and breathing in fresh air and stuff like that. Could be a really funny video. Like an April Fools day video (altho preferably sooner cause I wanna see it :'))

I’m from the Midwestern US and I remember distinctly in like junior high one of the high schoolers trying to bring her friend that was either a freshman or a sophomore to prom with her and our school wouldn’t let her fill out the form. Like she even said that they were going as a date and it was this whole thing. They never let her fill out the form but they finally let go of that policy I believe it was my freshman year. It’s not an issue there anymore but it’s just crazy to think how much things have changed and how that was seen as an acceptable rule at the time.

In Scotland (in my school anyway) we call it a Dance and they don't play pop songs or have a DJ or anything there is usually a live Ceilidh Band. They play Ceilidh music and we all have to do Scottish Country Dancing, which we are taught in P.E in the weeks leading up the Dance. We do dances like the Gay Gordens, the Highland Welcome, the Flying Scotsman and many more.

This was all so different from my prom. I've only been to two school dances, morp in my sophomore year and prom in junior year... Moro was so much fun, because it was the Decades dance where everyone got to wear something from a different time period, and it was a girls choice dance and my friend set me up to ask his friend Adam out, and now Adam and me are really good friends which is awesome. Junior prom I went with my boyfriend and I thought it was still amazing. It was hosted at the college stadium about 30 minutes away in the capitol and I was so excited. I found a dress for only $75 and it was absolutely gorgeous, and I'm gonna be able to reuse it for another dance if I go again next year for senior dances, which I hope I get to go to all of them next year! Anyways, prom was way different from me than you described Evan; but then again, I live on the other side of the country from you. Anyways, we would vote like two weeks before the dance who was going to be prom royalty, and each dance got a different class as the king and Queen. So homecoming was the sophomore dance, sweethearts or sadies was the special needs dance, and then the other was seniors, and then prom was for juniors. (In my area, school grades go k-6[elementary], 7-freshman[junior high], and then sophomore-senior [high school]) anyone could go to any of the dances though, and even in Junior High they had loads of dances that were tons of fun too
@NicholeParker

Okay, so I spent $300 something on my dress (I've only been to one prom so far), it was a $70 ticket. Limos didn't really happen, and there was no alcohol (supposed to be), but not much enforcing of it. One girl put two flasks in her dress ... Oh and prom king and queen is voted by the students who are attending prom, but they don't get a special dance. There was no punch bowl or sit down meal. Just a snack table. And it was everyone "dancing" everywhere, not much division. You also could easily go in friend groups, it's seen as normal. Also I'm single and not popular, so I just hung out at a friends house with the rest of my prom group of mostly single Pringles sans one couple.

My mom makes that punch for a lot of after-event receptions at church. We have a lot of concerts and things. It's ginger ale, juice, and sherbert. You can use any flavor and it'll be drinkable, but I remember canada dry and cran-apple with rainbow sherbert and frozen raspberries. I think she also had like frozen rings of cranberry juice. It was a chuck everything in type thing though. Sometimes there were grapes, or orange juice, any random flavors. Sometimes we used 7 up instead of or in addition to ginger ale. Or we're near Detroit, so sometimes Vernors.

I live in Australia, and I have friends who have been to upwards of 6 formals ( what we call proms/balls). How it works is they are really popular outside of school and get asked to different schools formals by their popular friends. I went to an all-girls school so I had to do all the asking to find my date!! And formals are typically for year 11 and 12 students, but my school only has one for year 12s. They are held at big convention centres, halls and other venues. It is either a sit-down dinner or stand-up (where you walk over to a table for food). These are HUGE events in private school world and there are before pre's at usually your friends house, then a pre-formal for everyone at someone who has a large enough house, then you all get a nice ride in to formal together! And afterwards is the pre- After Party where every drinks as much alcohol as they can, and then the after party at a private venue where everyone gets smashed and dances and makes bad choices.
