I definitely hear ya-- it's definitely on the sweet side, especially the 2% version. Seems to be what a lot of people prefer, but I'm more like you in that sweetness can be overdone and feel like a bit of a crutch sometimes. Hope you're able to track down some chocolate milk that you very much enjoy!

It's perfect for me. It's the 10/10 I could ever get. I live in a small town in the DMV I remember having the chocolate milk back in 2021 or 2022 and everywhere that I went until just today it was out of stock and didn't have it. I've been craving that flavor and creamy richness for 2 years and it's the best I've ever had.

I'm glad you enjoy it, and hopefully you'll be able to find it again soon. They've recently (~April 2024) re-branded the packaging a little and made a couple subtle changes. I love Promise Land Chocolate. I love it so much that I tend to indulge. It is very sweet but you can have a cup of it which is more healthier than eating a piece of cake when you have a sweet tooth. I always stock up because it tends to sell out the shelves in the Supermarket.

Glad you enjoy it so much! And yeah, it probably is better than eating a piece of cake-- I tend to drink most of my calories 😅, especially when on the road reviewing chocolate milk.. Food just gets in the way sometimes :)

Totally understand-- tons of great stuff out there but it's not always nearby or easy to find. Promised Land is at least very available in most parts of the US-- it's certainly a step up from most other national brands. Happy drinking!😋

Great review! The history of Promised Land and its ownership change is interesting; thanks for sharing that. If you're just casually reading on their website, you might think that it's still made at a family farm in Texas. 😅 I remember when I was younger, it was still sold in the glass bottles, and the milk was better back then. The ownership change and the transition to ESL really answers why. It's still good milk, but not quite the same as when it was a small, family-run operation.

I also remember the glass bottles of old- and it's certainly not a coincidence that 'you might think it's still made at a family farm in Texas.' That said, it's still enjoyable (the whole version, anyway) but lacks the 'soul' of a local creamline chocolate milk. Do you have a local go-to chocolate milk in your area?

I've always been a fan of chocolate milk but never taken the time to find the finer ones, I'll have to look to see if you've made any videos about where to go in Kentucky. Promised Land has always been one of my favorites but it's something I buy fairly rarely because I agree that it can be a little sweeter than I'd want for an every day drink. Definitely agree that the whole is better than the 2%. Great video.

Definitely some good chocolate milk in KY-- I did do a KY video (I'll link to it below) recently and since the time of that filming, there is another local dairy on the scene-- Legacy Dairy in Hiseville. It's great stuff, definitely on the sweet side though. Super nice folks, and worth checking out though. The video talks about Chaney's (Bowling Green) and JD Country Milk (Russellville)-- both awesome places to visit. I've visited Chaney's more recently when they were open and it was a really cool place with great people as well. Hope you can try all three of these and let me know which you prefer! Its creamy buttery but way too sweet for my taste. I favor cocoa and cream over the sweetness. "Could" be a great mass produced choc milk.

YES! I just had some this past weekend-- the new package looks slick, but you're right, no mention of Jerseys... They still have the picture of the Jersey cow at the top, but it says "Taste the Promised Land Difference" when it used to say "Taste the Jersey Cow Difference." Also, there's nonfat milk in the new version as well. I'll be doing a video about it in the coming months. Also, it's not made it TX anymore-- it all comes out of a large production plant in Colorado Springs as far as I'm aware. Thanks for the comment! 🤜🤛

If you're in eastern PA (I realize there are Wawas elsewhere, but just taking a guess)-- you're in luck, since there are more local dairies in PA (seemingly) than anywhere else. I don’t love promised land. It’s probably okay in a pinch but it’s like a 5 of 10 for me. As far as National brands, yeah… you are right it’s probably the best unless you can include Trader Joe’s in the list 🤷

Yeah I'm thinking that all PL comes from the Colorado Springs plant-- it must make sense for them from a production and distribution standpoint. A lot of people seem to think or assume it's 'local' and not a national brand. Maybe they'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the comment 👍

I gave it a 6.5 / 10 (link below). For me, it was way too syrupy sweet (not a surprise when there's high fructose corn syrup). Much better local options in Tennessee if that's where you're at!
