It's honestly getting out of control. They just raised the dynamic add rate to 5% and a 10x increase in pay per click. They are taking everything they can from sellers while they are still around. Eventually people won't be able to sustain the fees...
@DrShanksALotАй бұрын
It’s already happening. We were doing millions of US dollars in volume just a few years ago on eBay. We will be leaving eBay in early 2025 and we still do about a million in volume a year on eBay. 20%+ in overall fees is not profitable. Almost all our competition has already left. We’ve focused on our websites and paid Google an average of 10% in ad spend. Tripled our website volume in 3 years just enough to make it without eBay anymore.

It’s all probably useless if your sales are shadow capped and your items are hidden by eBay etc it’s money down the drain

eBay offers all of these increasingly sophisticated advertising strategies to a seller base that can’t even master the basics of selling.
@joeambly68072 ай бұрын
No, they offer these tools for advanced large sellers. Smaller sellers need to be realistic and realize this is nit for the. If you can't figure this out, you probablly shouldn't be reselling lol
@biffboffo2 ай бұрын
@ They push these tools on every single user though. It’s not like these offers only go out to sellers who gross $1M+ per year. And many people probably shouldn’t be reselling.
@joeambly68072 ай бұрын
@biffboffo It would be nice if they didn't provide the option for the small guys. I just feel like it's pretty self explanatory that they are not targeted at us. But you do have a good point
@DrShanksALotАй бұрын
Let me correct you. eBay has ruined the ability to master the basics of selling on eBay! This is the actual problem. I’ve been a seller for 15+ years now. Promoted Listings = No Amazing Customer Deals while destroying Best Match results. eBay’s stock is healthy because of their revenue but the larger eBay Retailers are no longer healthy and are leaving and the consumer is following and leaving as well. It’s just a matter of time before eBay crashes including the stock. Greed will ultimately be their destruction.

The minimum per click bid for Priority was $0.02 but they recently increased the minimum to $0.10 - $0.20 per click depending on how you set it up with no notice to sellers. The policy page you were reading still said minimum $0.02 for about a week after they made the change but when they were publicly called out for it, they just stealth edited the policy page to try to sweep it under the rug and act like nothing changed, again with no notice or announcement to sellers.

We were doing millions in volume on eBay per year. I read your recent article about this as well. We most likely will leave eBay in 2025. At minimum we will stop all promoted listings. 90% of our competition already has left eBay. eBay because of greed is on the edge of their ultimate downfall. Their stock may look healthy but their customer base and seller base is leaving fast!

@@DrShanksALot they just announced another $3B for buybacks too to try to keep investors happy, but like you said, without a healthy user base that can only keep the plates spinning for so long. Sorry to hear you may be leaving eBay next year - though I completely understand why many sellers are, it still honestly makes me sad when I hear about it. Always interested to hear more about what is driving sellers to make that decision, either on or off the record - feel free to reach out any time!

@ 175 million active users when peaked in 2018 down to 132 million in 2023. 25% drop. 24.8 million active sellers in 2015 when peaked down to 18.1 million in 2023. Down nearly 30%. Promoted Listings is literally pushing everyone away. Sellers can’t give deals that eBay is known for and buyers can’t find deals on eBay anymore. Now that the economy is really hurting (You will really see when Q4 numbers come out for everyone) eBay is about to see its downfall and all through their own greedy pockets. Sucks when greed ruins something that was once good.

think about those hundreds of thousands of clicks from other sellers comping prices. eBay has no way of knowing im not interested in buying , im only comping prices , as i always get offers afterwards...sooooo, your paying for allot of clicks that have no intention of buying ! I was searching for a new pair of shoes to buy recently, what im looking for is very specific, i never did find what im looking for ! I did see allot of what i wasn't looking for ! and allot of dirty shoe soles ! lol..

For me personally promoted listings have never worked. I simply believe if you have really good items and better prices than everyone else, you will get sales in one way or another. Everything else is just eBay "scamming" you to give them more money. Also trying to understand this whole system, thinking that you understand it, feels alot like "broscience" and I don't mean to sound rude to you at all Jon! Just my 2 cents.
@FlippinAintEasy2 ай бұрын
If you have food items and a good price you of course at some point will make a sale. Promoted listings is all about traffic not necessarily sales. In any given listing you need just one of those impressions to convert into a page view and that page view into a sale. The more you pay eBay the more traffic you get. Traffic does help average items sell and most people have average or worse items in their store. Which is why some items simply don’t need promoted listings but you have to be honest with yourself Scott what you are trying to sell and some of those listings need help. On the extreme side some items are so bad that you can throw all the traffic that you want at the listing and it won’t sell. Bottom line, any channel that has it fully figured out is lying to you because eBay doesn’t give us the manual. But through trial and error you can get a good idea what works for you and that is what this channel is about, sharing my own experience and thoughts with everyone.

eBay’s stock and revenue may look healthy but it won’t last long term. eBay sellers have been leaving and the customer base has dropped drastically as well. We are close to closing our eBay store(s) that were doing millions $$ in volume per year just a few years ago and most our competition has already left. Promoted Listings in general just to sell anything took all our profits away. The effort for no profit just isn’t worth it. Instead we have used google ads for our websites. Spending 10% and seen quadruple growth in just 3 years. eBay is destroying itself!

I am very interested in the Shopify side of things. Maybe adding that would be helpful to many sellers who are struggling on the platform.
