I’m having the opposite challenge. I get more darker skinned women and can’t figure out how to get complexions in the lighter to medium brown skin ranges. Typing “ mixed “ or even lighter skin plus African American isn’t working

Thank you for this video, I hope more people watch it and learn your tips. I have resorted to using other image generating programs that allow me to select Checkpoints and LoRAs, which I've learned through trial and error, seem to have been trained with images of darker skinned people. Even then I'll have to try very creative wordings for the prompt. Then I'll use an image editing program to learn the color values of pixels that are in the range of skin color I'm looking for. Various websites will convert the pixel data to a name for that color such as Deep Oak (#44220E), Bistre (#39281D), Saddle (#493122), Roman Coffee (#796253), or Zeus (#1D1815), to name a very few, for various shades of brown. So, then I might use a prompt like "very dark pigmented skin African woman, Deep Oak skin color #44220E C:47%, M:74%, Y:84%, K:67%" or "black girl with very dark skin complexion, Creole skin color #070301 C:72%, M:67%, Y:67%, K:87%" Even then it is hit or miss, and you'll always be at the mercy of the Checkpoint training data. If those skin colors are not in there, it won't spontaneously generate them. Honestly I think the text part of generating images is a very small fraction of how images are created, and we are putting too much emphasis on the wrong kind of input. Just adding a picture, as an image prompt, of what you are aiming for to the main prompt will influence it more I think. Oh BTW I usually throw in Nigerian or Ghanaian if I want dark skin color plus some culture thrown in on the side. Thanks again!

National boundaries, which are arbitrary and less indicative of the physical characteristics we envision as artists, might limit our exploration of art. However building upon your excellent example, we can enhance our creative process by considering a list of diverse ethnicities found across Africa. While some of these names may be familiar, it is crucial for us as artists to conduct extensive research and delve further into the vast range of beauty that exists throughout the continent of Africa. By doing so, we can better achieve our goal of generating AI artwork that truly captures the desired essence we seek. I further suggest using these terms in the image prompts: Afar, Akan, Amhara, Bakongo, Balanta, Bambara, Berber, Chaga, Chewa, Chichewa, Dinka, Fula/Fulani, Ga, Ganda, Gikuyu, Hausa, Igbo, Ijaw, Kamba, Kanuri, Kikuyu, Luba, Lunda, Mande, Mandinka, Mossi, Ndebele, Nuer, Oromo, Ovambo, Rundi, San Bushmen, Shona, Shubi, Somali, Songhai, Sotho, Sukuma, Swahili, Swazi, Tigray, Tonga, Tswana, Tuareg, Wolof, Xhosa, Yoruba, Zaghawa, Zarma, Zulu

Great! A tip: for dark skin you have to set variation mode to 100 or 250 max. if you set to high (750-1000) you will get mixed/white. why? i don't know, but that's what i found out, when testing.

Ive been increasingly frustrated trying to generate dark skin people. I am constantly getting light skin or mixed ambiguous people... even if i specify dark skin or darker skin. I have resorted to uploding people and referencing the link to get more people of varied dark skinned people.

Midjourney and Leonardo are both awful for generating Black folks. They keep adding typical European features. Bing is much better - but Bing censors a lot.
