Millions of people have pronation (internal rotation/fallen arches) of their feet that's causing imbalances in the foot, ankle, knee, pelvis, and spine. These chronic imbalances of the kinetic chain lead to many joint problems, degeneration, bulging/herniated discs, arthritis, and pain.

@@danielbrunjes3354 I was being misdiagnosed with "bone on bone" knee osteoarthritis. After finally having a doctor in CUBA (of all places) look at my MRI and feet, he noted that the arches were fallen and no "doctor" in murica addressed any issues in my feet. It's a FUCKING RACKET. I understand what Hell is. I have been there and it is a mental state, unnecessary and willfully misdiagnosed pain is Hell. Hope you are doing well . this is not exaggerated at all. I knew i wanted to be a pro athlete when i was 15 yrs old. I trained my self so hard into injuries and compensated for injuries creating 1 flat foot. Ive had 10 years of knee pain in that leg and my hips are misaligned, im missing 1 of my abdominal muscles my shoulders are tilted and head keeps going forwards. I cant count how many doctors and physiotherapists ive seen but they never helped at all. They just said it was patella tendinitis and needed rest. through research ive finally found out that this is what i need to do. I was depressed for a decade and now i have hope again.

As an Orthotist, I see patients with over pronation weekly. I'm glad you are educating people about over pronation and its progressive long term effects. Few in my profession seem to understand how to fabricate a custom foot orthotic that derotates, corrects, and supports IRD (Internal Rotation Deviation) with properly designed orthotics. This is critical, especially treating pediatrics with severe Pes Plano Valgus. Thank you for this video.

I have disk degenerative disease & have had 2 back surgeries. I’ve been suffering with TMJ issues the past 15 yrs. & I have lost track of how many times I’ve rolled/sprained my ankles. & lately my knees have been bothering me. I’ve noticed that I put all my weight on my outter edges of my feet. It’s crazy how one little thing can throw off the balance of the entire body! I love this video, very eye opening.

Dr's Mandel is describing my daughter. She has Left pronated foot. I had talked to her pediatrician since I first noticed when she started walking. I was ignored saying this was normal and would correct itself. Now my 15 year old has scoliosis. Complains of low back, left knee and foot pain if she walks or exercises. I've been a chiropractor that just like Dr Madell, was able to tell me what was wrong with her foot and do adjustments that really relieve her pain. I'm definitely teaching her these exercises. Thank you Dr Mandel!!

If I could like this video a million times I would. Many many chiropractor visits for neck and back pain and the only thing I took away from that experience was to buy a Back Buddy xl massager off Amazon for trigger points (courtesy of the PT's recommendation). It helps relieve the neck pain, but not prevent it. I used to be a very active person, but I stopped running 10 years ago due to my knee pain and now I even struggle to walk because I have severe pain in my arches. The past year I needed an ankle support for my right foot due to pain. I've told myself it's just laziness and all of that will go away if I exercised those areas to build them up more, but I only get worse and worse pain. Motivationaldoc just spelled out every single problem I've had all stemming down to my flat feet. Now I feel like I can finally seek real relief armed with this knowledge. Thank you thank you thank you!

I’m so glad you mentioned how over pronation often leads to anterior pelvic tilt and lateral pelvic tilt. The feet are the foundation and a person can do APT stretches and strengthening exercises every single day but it’s never going to go away unless the feet are addressed. I teach at a UC and work with postural imbalance with the students. 9/10 they have overpronation along with APT and LPT. Thanks so much for your work!

Can we address the postural imbalances after addressing the pronation feet ?
@marisajane7229
@marisajane7229 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for making such a detailed video about overpronation and it’s effects up the kinetic chain. I teach at UCSB and my main focus is muscular imbalance/postural distortions. I have 15-20 student-interns working under me and we offer free postural assessments to students. Once we recognize the postural distortions, I do muscle testing on the student to make sure we have it right and from there we show the student 3 vital steps to correct the problems. 1. Stretch the tight muscles 2. Strengthen the weak muscles (generally the opposite side of the joint from the tight dominant muscle) 3. Activation exercises with high repetition to help the student regain that neuromuscular connection (the most important of the 3 in my opinion). They are usually amazed at how much better they feel from going through those steps for the first time its extremely rewarding. 8/10 times we see overronation of the feet, knee valgus, and APT often accompanied with lateral pelvic tilt. This is especially true in the females and I truly think that Instagram has a lot to do with it because the girls try to mimic how they models pose and walk around. It’s terrifying. My hope is to help these students correct their imbalances while the are still young and at the very least make them more aware of their bodies and how their daily habits will affect their posture and ultimately well being over time. Your videos have been extremely helpful and educational. I can’t wait to sit my interns down to watch this video because you really bring it all together and connect all the dots. Thank you thank you!

@@debbiec4407 place one of your hands on your chest and the other over your tummy. Take in a deep breath and notice which area is lifted when you breathe in. Is it your chest or your stomach? Many people ( I was one of them) unconsciously breathe incorrectly. Our diaphragm muscle is supposed to go down when we breathe in and this kicks off very important sequencing for core stability. When it is dysfunctional (common for people with extreme anterior pelvic tilt) it makes it very unlikely that stretches and exercises alone will be enough. The core muscles have to work right in order for the body to release the tight hip flexors and low back because something has to stabilize the torso since the backwards breathing is preventing the diaphragm, transverse abdominis, and pelvic floor from doing it’s job.

Incredible! You've just diagnosed my chronic problem exactly. I've seen chiropractors, pain management, orthopedist, and a podiatrist, and NO ONE has figured this out. I had a knee replacement (which I probably didn't need), and had a recommendation for a spinal fusion or a spine spacer - which I refused. The 30 minutes I just spent watching your video gave me more information than any doctor has. Yes, I have a fallen arch, pigeon toes, uneven pelvis, shoulders, back pain, etc. My question is: what type of physician would actually be helpful with this issue, or will doing the exercises faithfully be enough. I use the orthotics that my podiatrist recommended. Your videos provide such a wealth of information - thank you for taking time to help so many people.

There are several things to try Try a natural remedies for plantar foot. Something as simple as ginger root, which can be found at your drug store, is a good anti-inflammatory. Ginger root is in a group of plants known as Cox inhibitors. That means they help inflammation naturally. Another natural remedy for pain is Bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapples. just drink the raw juice or eat raw pineapple, you can gt advantage from the properties of Bromelain. Enzymes are one of the top remedies for pain because they are all natural and are what your body uses to cure inflammation (I learned these and more tips on fergs foot formula website )

I had asked the physical therapist why my leg was valgus (knock knee) and without ever seeing an x ray he said "because of knee arthritis." That is really bad medicine.... No one wants to take the time to really find out what is going on. After looking at this video I looked at my foot, ankle, and leg and figured it out. My foot is pronating, ankle is tilted inward. It is a chain reaction that goes all the way up the body. I am expecting some good Tread Labs arch supports from Amazon tomorrow. I think I am on the right track now. The medical profession is short sighted in it's approach with their specialties. Focusing on just one body part doesn't show the big picture. A Doctor like Dr. Mandell, is rare indeed. He is a wonderful teacher, and is a blessing to so many people.

Plantar Fasciitis is the underlying cause for my knee, back and neck problems. Both my arches fell (a few days apart) 32 years ago with my first pregnancy, and it was so painful. Since then, I have balance issues, a trick knee and my head tilts forward - all which are painful. 32 years of doctors and chiropractors and no one told me my fallen arches were the issue. THANK YOU for your video!! I have chronic back illnesses that started with scoliosis. The reason for my imbalance. Wasn’t that noticeable after I had spine surgery in my teens. Now, as I am getting much older, it is physically noticeable and causing more changes in my body. Experiencing more sciatica that feet started to hurt and causing more problems with my flat feet that I know now is pronation. I will try your exercises and stretches. I cannot reverse my spine issues but I can certainly try to stabilize and manage the pain. THANK YOU again.

Thank you Doctor. Ive had an ankle injury for over 10 years now. I also have flat feet. The injured ankle no longer has no cartilage and is causing heavy imbalance. I can feel it in my knee, lumbar, kyphotic, shoulder and neck. My kinetic chain is all screwed. I will give your recommended exercises a try. I spend 700 on MRI xray and a podiatrist and they did not help me. Only recommended a orthopedic for my fallen arch. Thanks again. I will let you know of the progress

the picture of the skeleton with the red arrows is exactly my situation... shoulder dropped, hips uneven... my feet pronate and my arches are dropped... unfortunately I found this out too late for my knee... the ACL tore completely and then a year later the meniscus tore... so big long recovery and now I use orthotic inserts in shoes to give my feet a proper foundation and am slowly getting the hip all the way up to my neck sorted out. GREAT PICTURES and information! Thank you!

That's great Doctor. I have always though even a thyroid condition can be caused by the feet and the shoes we wear. That has an enormous effect on the entire body. Thank you for that! You are the kind of Dr. That is well trained and studied. You love what you do and that's what makes you great! I only wish you weren't one of a very few in America. God Bless you & yours!

Genius, you are the 1st one I encounter to have seen this problem in comprehensive dynamic structure. I have suffered many years because of sports and under treatments with several traditional chiropractitioners again and again 1st back pain, then i fix my knee, then sacroilliaac, then pelvic ring, now bursitis (as I could remember). If my chiros can think like you maybe it could take a month for them to fix me. TQ very much for such clear explaination.

Yes everything you put up really hits home for me and for year's I 've used my tennis ball 🎾 to roll underneath my feet, to reduce swelling, remove any discoloration/broken blood vessels (year's ago, I had discoloration and broken blood vessels the foot doctor gave me over 20-50 shot's in one foot 🦶 in one visit to save my foot and it worked, and now, both feet looks very normal) and to promote blood circulation too. And yes, it's a domino effect. So I practice good posture and I'm always mindful to properly squat before lifting up groceries from the floor and or items. One foot is more flatten than the other. And Years ago it use to be both ankles falling inwardly down and worn down inside/outside of shoe's but it's has improved to just one shoe getting worn down. And because inserts don't work for me it causes my foot just slide all over the place inside my shoe nor does a heel works for me because "I lean forward due to being heavy breasted." But what do helps me is wearing a long thin piece of a strip specially made into one of my shoes 👟 glued underneath the shoe straight across the bottom now that work's better for me. Now added to that I could use an arch placed in my shoes but it's so very uncomfortable and painful to walk in it all day.

Omg I’ve been suffering for months first knee pain then foot pain again I’ve always had planatar faciatis comes & goes I think with my activity level but yup shoulder pain always sometimes it will go away I believe when I’m more active but was home taking care of my mom that had a stroke I was active but taking care of her not long walks and gym for over 6 mos and I kept wondering what was going on & always thought it was my food I did reflexology for the knee and foot and felt better but the si joint would hurt everytime I’d start doing long walks again and now I see this makes so much sense thank you❤❤❤😊

Excellent video. It resonates with me. For years I have had lower back problems. Surgeries and fusion but pain in lower extremities still exists. For the last few years after breaking my ankle I have been looking at my foot and ankle peroneal tendons more and more. This video makes me think I’m headed down the right road.

alvaro f look up on KZbin about a surgery called hyprocure. It’ll change your life. Orthotics is a waste of money. It’s temporary relief.
@canyonsuede
@canyonsuede 5 жыл бұрын
The real cause of your foot problems is most likely from a weakness above. Orthotics should only be used as crutches while you strengthen the underlying weakness. Over a long period of time they will only weaken your foot muscles. Need to strengthen your hips, especially gluteus medius and external rotators. Bridges, clamshells, single leg romanian deadlift. For the core side planks are great. Functional hamstring exercises. Calf raises every other day and stretching everyday. Ankle inversion band exercises for posterior tib. Yoga is also a plus. Need to be doing something everyday as this is a pretty profound problem to have.

Dr. Mandell, I am in my late 50s and scheduled for a right knee replacement in just under 2 weeks. I have been severely flat footed my entire life, to the point that when I walk it is Charlie Chaplin styl. What you have stated in this video is absolute truth, because I experience all but plantar faciitis. I hve been trying to loose weight but it is tough, though I ha e lost some weight. I know what it is to live in pain , which is a life style for me because I refuse to take narcotics, or NSAIDS, or Acetominophen every day. Thank you for all you do, thank you for your great informative videos, and all the help you give worldwide. God bless and you have a great day sir.
