Hi, I'm learning Vietnamese, and I have to say the instructions on mouth shape and tongue position are very helpful. It's nice to hear someone explain the technique and give some exercises so I can actually practice the correct pronunciation.

I'm back. I really like the way that you teach. I know that it would be time-consuming, but I wish that you would re-record this in a room with less echo. It is hard to hear you clearly. Cảm ơn con.

Thank you for giving examples at a slow pace on how to pronounce the vowel sounds. The close up of the shape of the mouth was also very helpful. It gives us more opportunities to practice on our own.

this is the most complex vietnamese sentence I know yet. It is very hard to speak it yet. "ở đây có sinh tố sữa chua xoài không?" I really love Mango Tôi rất thích xoài

very helpful. I esp. liked the front-and-side mouth views at end. could you include somewhere a phonetic (IPA) diagram(s) of the positions of the vowels in the mouth; this might be more direct than talking of pulling the mouth this way and that. also, variant explanations for speakers of particular languages (eg as Eng speaker, I find u, o^ and o easy because they are like similar English vowels; but u', e^ etc need more practice)

This is great! I‘be been learning Vietnamese for a few weeks and I find it hard to remember the vowels since there are some that look similar. I really like you break the vowels into groups, making it easier to learn. Thank you 😃

Here I am a year later and still struggling with pronunciation. I've noticed two things: First is that the pitch of each vowel is different. Was that on purpose? The second is that the way you pronounce several of the vowels is different from the way Lan pronounces them. The two most different are the A with the hat and the A with the smile. Can you let me know if the scooping of the tone is in the letter or in the most common tone mark? I still appreciate your exercises and your attention to detail. Thank you

I think your explanation of  is not the pronunciation of vowel Â, but how to read the letter Â. As you mentioned, I feel that pronunciation of Ơ and  is just same. Vietnamese teachers sometimes are confusing and not good at teaching this, because of their mother tongue. Same for A and Ă. How do you explain about Ầ and Ặ? Up tone?
@rainbowsummer43624 жыл бұрын
Anh ơi as a Vietnamese teacher i think Ă is the short A only. Ơ and  are totally different. Ơ is pronounced deeper (in the throat) while  is at the back of your mouth (your throat is closed)
@KurterinoVD4 жыл бұрын
@@rainbowsummer4362 I have heard the same explanation for Ă, that it is just a short A. That way it is explained in this video (A with an up tone), is confusing once you add tones to it (how would you pronounce ắ? Wouldn't that be an A with a double up tone?) Otherwise it's a great video, thanks so much to the uploader!
@rainbowsummer43624 жыл бұрын
@@KurterinoVD actually she didnt mention the fact that Ă is called "á". It's not how it sounds but it's the name of the letter. It's like in English we call A "ei" but it is pronounced differently in different words. So "ă" has its name as "á" but pronounced as short a. Same goes with Â
@KurterinoVD4 жыл бұрын
@@rainbowsummer4362 Thank you for this, that made it a little clearer. Now I know why it's called short A, I guess. However, the explanation in this video for Ă is still confusing to me, she says "Ă is just like A, but with an up tone". If that is true, how would you pronounce Ắ (Ă with up tone)? Otherwise, all of the other letters are now much more clearer to me than before, I really like this video :)
