PROOF Qui-Gon Jinn Would NEVER Join Dooku! [CANON] Tales of the Jedi

So this is an interesting question and one that was raised at the end of tales of the Jedi when dooku told Palpatine that Qui Gon could have been a powerful ally, had he not died. Sidious said, for you, and the conversation started to shift. So today, let’s discuss the possibilty of qui-gon actually turning away from the Jedi and joining dooku.
Now before we begin we need understand qui-gon a little bit better for those new to the channel and to Star Wars. Qui-Gon was a maverick. He went his own way. He wasn’t on the Jedi council by choice, he knew the decisions he made and his overall view of the force was what made him unfit in the council’s eyes. For example, many fans would argue that qui-gon jinn’s use of the force to manipulate the chance cube with Watto was an act of the dark side, or rather, more in the middle of light and dark, grey some would call it. I always saw it as him balancing the odds since Watto’s chance cube was rigged by Watto himself. Qui-Gon was all about trusting the force, and believing balance was key. This is why he would have literally been the best father figure and teacher to Anakin, preventing his whole downfall.
Now, here’s an excerpt from the book master and apprentice which is canon. It’s a quote from qui-gon jinn to rael aveross who was once Dooku’s apprentice that Qui-Gon grew close with.
"I don't turn toward the light because it means someday I'll 'win' some sort of cosmic game. I turn toward it because it is the light."
This line right here, helps us all see how qui-Gon really thought. That he didn’t use the light side because he felt elitist or like it’s the higher level thinking way of using the force. He uses it because it’s the light, and there is no other option.
While I do think Qui-Gon was growing very weary of the Jedi as time passed, including their poor belief in his reveal of fighting the first Sith Lord in a millennia, I don’t think he would have joined the dark side. Now, that’s not to say he wouldn’t have joined Dooku. Quite the opposite, I believe he would have joined dooku, however I don’t think he would have turned to the dark side. He wouldn’t have turned his back on obi-wan or anakin, I felt he was so deep in the light side that he felt using the force for anything that can be seen as the greater good while killing and causing turmoil against many innocents, would not be the jedi way, and for that reason I feel he would distance himself from his former master. He would for sure agree with Dooku when it came to how the jedi had become corrupt with politics and the dealings of the senate, but actually making decisions and collaborations with a sith lord like darth sidious, and knowing dooku was now darth tyranus, he wouldn’t ever accept such a title or position for himself. I think Qui-Gon’s ability to gauge what is the true meanin of the force and what is just the Jedi council bein brainwashed by politics and the senate, is what made him such an interesting character.
Thank you for watching today's video. I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you in the next one! May the force be with you, ALWAYS!

I think Qui-Gon would've wanted to help Dooku out of loyalty and respect. In "Master & Apprentice," he tries to contact Dooku on Serenno and never gets a response. I think that if he did try to help Dooku, he would be shocked when he found out the things Dooku has done, like killing Yaddle. Qui-Gon would never turn to the dark side, so I think he ultimately would've had to oppose Dooku in the end, even if he tried to help him at first.

@snipadk4146
@snipadk4146 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, I feel like since Qui-Gonn was never political, and only followed the force, he wouldn’t join Dooku as a Separatist. I feel like Qui-Gonn would consider joining Dooku as a force user trying to find balance and trying to bring about peace throughout the galaxy, but the second he finds out about Dooku being a Sith he would realize that Dooku’s ideologies and original good intentions are being clouded/corrupted by the dark side. This would most likely shift their relationship because Qui-Gonn can’t believe his master would fall to the dark side. Sidious would likely see Dooku being distracted from this and he’d probably find out from Dooku why happened. Then, Sidious would most likely order Dooku to kill Qui-Gonn as to not ruin any of his plans, thus leading to more of an internal struggle within Dooku. Ofc anything else could’ve happened, but that’s what I think. :)

@@NickyHelp I agree somewhat, however, I'd say his allegiance is to all innocent people as he would serve only the force. In the clone wars show we see that not all Separatists have evil/bad intentions when Padme and Ahsoka go to visit one of Padme's old colleagues who joined the separatist movement. Instead of Qui-Gonn's allegiance being with the republic, imo I think he doesn't serve any political party, only the people who would need his help.

Lux and his mother were living proof of that, before Lux's mother was murdered by Dooku and other separatists lie about it when he's telling the truth. And about Qui-Gon, that's exactly what I meant by being a Jedi that they were suppose to be and meant to be (which many Jedi had forgotten, which led many to their deaths and where they regretted it); A Jedi to the people, when they are in need, and one that serves to the force, not to politics or evil.

Now I don't think Qui-Gon would have fallen to the dark side but have walked away from the Jedi Order becoming a what you would call a Gray Jedi I don't know that's all I feel that's my opinion.

Perhaps parts of Ahsoka's story is that of what Qui-Gon would have become had he lived. Qui-Gon would have become so disillusioned with the Jedi, he would have ended up leaving. And yes he would have sought counsel in his old master. I think Qui-Gon would have gone back to warn the Jedi Council, however, in their blindness and at the same time arrogance, they would have again discounted the warnings. Qui-Gon would have eventually set out on his own path, perhaps trying to bring along Obi-Wan and Anakin in an effort to keep them from falling to the trap being set by the Poppa Palpatine.

I think it's more likely Qui-Gon would have prevented Dooku from turning to the dark side. He probably would have talked with Dooku and together they would agree they needed to leave the order with Anakin and go do their own thing, starting a secret order of force wielders somewhere else. There is zero chance of Qui-Gon turning from the light side. Like he said, he chooses the light because it is the light. That is a mindset of a man who has forsaken all else in service of the ultimate good in the universe. He aligns himself to that and that alone. Once someone reaches that level of wisdom, it is damn near impossible to ever have them fall. Also I think the reason Qui-Gon couldn't reach out to Anakin to stop him from becoming Vader is the same reason Anakin couldn't reach out to Ben Solo to stop him from becoming Kylo Ren. I have a theory that because Force Ghosts are the end result of following the light side to the fullest, they can't reach out to those in darkness. It's like the dark side blinds them to the voice of Force Ghosts. What I would have loved to have seen is instead of Ben having a memory of Han show up after he turns back to the light, have Anakin appear and finally reconcile this obsession Ben had with Vader. Have Ben ask, "Why did you never reach out to me before?" And Anakin would explain, "I tried to Ben...I tried to so many times. But you were so steeped in the dark side that it deafened your ears, blinded your eyes, and closed off your heart to me. Only now that you have taken your first step back into the light have I been able to speak to you as you are now."

I would actually argue he would try to keep Dooku from joining Sidious or at the least during the clone war would try to turn him back to the light much like Luke did with Vader. I feel like Qui Gon would have done what Ashoka did in Clone Wars; he would have grown frustrated with the Jedi council and walked out but stayed on the Light side as a sort of "lone ranger," or maybe even tried to start a separate Jedi school somewhere in the Outer Rim where he could teach and train young Force sensitives and other disillusioned Jedi (Anakin included) in his views of The Force, far away from the politics of the Core worlds.

I think he wouldve believed Dooku but his compassion and genuine concern would've persuaded Dooku back to the light side saying the dark side would not be the way. Dooku would not have joined the Jedi but the grey side of the force.

Had quigon survived, I think he would've left the order and maybe even have joined with dooku for awhile but would be left when he found out about all the deaths he and palpatine had caused. Imagine if that were the case and then obiwan had sent ahsoka to meet him after she left the order. That would have been a powerhouse duo.

I don't think he would have joined the Darkside but like you said, perhaps joined Dooku or at the very least stayed in contact from time to time. If Qui-Gon had survived, I always like to think that perhaps he would one day leave the Jedi to perhaps create his own Order of those who stay out of politics and follow the ways of the force and the light. Not sure if that would have happened but I think it could be a cool What If moment.

Why does Qui Gon appear older than Dooku? It was a thing that in Ep1, Qui Gon's age is why he wasn't able to beat Maul, he lacked stamina as a result, yet Dooku had zero issues being one of the best duelists in Star Wars canon.

for me I see Qui-Gon sensing that something was slightly off about his former master words, he would probably keep Dooku at arm's length til he finally learned the truth of Dooku being a sith lord, afterwards he might start planning to hide from Palpatine's gaze via slowly reducing his force signature and then when the time was right tell Obi-wan of his plan preserve the Jedi teachings by escaping to a secluded part of the galaxy to prepare for a coming darkness that he perceived though the Force. P.S. but this is only speculation on my part if I were in his position.

I kind of see this debate in a different matter; what if qui-gon never joined anyone or stayed anywhere? Not with the Jedi, not with Dooku at his fall, what if, after training Obi Wan, he wanted out? I feel thats a very real possibility and very real thought of a lot of Jedi who go through their training, become a Jedi Knight, and witness the broader picture of what the Jedi were at that time.
@christb32

I think he would have left the order and joined Dooku, discovered Tyranus' plans and his manipulation of Dooku, left them and warned the Jedi but would not have gone back to the order. He would become a traveler roaming the universe, training and living within the will of the force, which sometimes lead him to do great things for "good". But sometimes took him down a path that he thought to be "wrong" but did not fully understand the will of the force at the time.

Grey Jedi aren't Dark Jedi they are Jedi that see the code as a suggestion; Dooku created a line of Grey Jedi who disregard the council and follow the will of the force even if it takes them to a dark place. There is a direct line from Dooku's training to Ahsoka and Luke. Even Obi-Wan despite being on the council was constantly lying, stealing, having a secret girlfriend, hiding things from the council and even a few assassinations. Grey Jedi doesn't mean Dark Jedi.

Same. Too, maybe seeing Qui Gon make Anakin the (almost) ideal Jedi despite everything the council knew about his future would make other jedi start thinking like Qui Gon. Imo, Qui Gon stayed with the Order so long bc he felt he had influence there that could change the order for better. If Qui Gon lived, I think others would begin questioning the Republic's policies and things that allowed evil people to have too much power. The jedi being involved in politics was a great opportunity to help the Republic stay uncorupted, and they chose to be passive.

I think Qui-Gon would definitely leave The Jedi Order at some point but not to join The Dark Side. He is are Grey Jedi character of the franchise so he'll remain there. One thing you didn't touch is if Qui-Gon survives the duel with Darth Maul then Obi-Wan probably doesn't become so dogmatic and like Qui-Gon with Dooku, Obi-Wan would slowly adopt Qui-Gon's perspective on some things which would make him question the Order more. He wouldn't be training Anakin so that pressure is gone. Maybe he'd have a different apprentice a lot later in life though.

I think under the right circumstances he would've joined the Separatist movement, but not the Sith. Dooku's Sith alignment would've been the deal breaker. Also, you're so right. That always bothered me in AOTC. The Jedi confirm that the clone army was created after being commissioned by a Jedi without the approval of the Council, but when fear took over the senate and people started preaching, "We need that clone army" the Jedi just rolled with it. *facepalm -- Nice video, man!

Would Qui-Gon have gone to the Dark Side? No. Would he have helped Dooku, say with the Clones or other things that weren't overtly Dark Side related? Sure, I think that he would. I think that in that scene with Dooku and Sidious Yaddle was, in a way, a stand-in for Qui-Gon; that once Qui-Gon knew about Sidious the same scenario would have played out. Sidious would have invoked The Rule of Two, manipulated Dooku into fighting his former Padawan, and even if they joined forces against him Sidious would have killed them both.

I think you are right in the depiction of Qui-gon. And I think the decision to stay with his former master wold have been a hard one in the moment. Like Dooku and waddle. Just think he would have chosen differently. Now as far as the Obi-Wan to anakin teaching scenario. Think the problem with Obi-Wan was that he was dogmatic like the counsel. They're words were "gospel" to him without questioning of any kind just like Mace! Were it not for that I think he could have mentored Anakin better!

Of course Obiwan thought of it as gospel. He was young and eager to please. However, as the clone wars dragged on. He saw how far the council would go, especially when they asked Anakin to spy on the chancellor. However, when Anakin turned and after 10 years of mourning. He finally moved on and became the Jedi that his master saw

I really wish we had more canon content about Qui-Gon. I don't think he would have ever joined the Dark Side. As you said, I see him as a Jedi in the term's truest form. And I completely agree that he probably would have left the Jedi Order and gone a more "Ahsoka route" as I call it. Though, I do have to say, even though it's not "canon" anymore (boo!!!), my first introduction to Star Wars was with my obsession with the 'Jedi Apprentice' EU/Legends books as a kid, and Qui-Gon did sway towards the darkness for a very brief period of time from what I remember because of events I will not spoil in case anyone ever does wanna read the series (seriously, the books were so good!). Considering how much Star Wars knowledge you have, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. So we know that everyone has a breaking point. Simply just being disillusioned from the Jedi Order, though? No way. That wouldn't have turned him to the Dark Side. Also, I just wanna say that I never read the 'Master & Apprentice' book, mainly because of my attachment to the 'Jedi Apprentice' series, but I am glad to hear they kept that Qui-Gon thought Obi-Wan was such a loser at first! I remember how none of the other Jedi Masters wanted to train Obi-Wan in the EU series 😂 I really need to go back and read those books, 'cause I don't remember everything or how exactly Obi-Wan ended up being taken on by Qui-Gon despite being seen as no-good. They're so hard to find nowadays, but I got lucky because the visually impaired digital library I use just so happens to have most of the series. The only benefit I've ever found to being visually impaired: being able to find those old books. Lol

Had Dooku asked Qui-Gon to join him on Coruscant It would've gone down like Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader. But with help by the entire Jedi Council. Possibly Dooku would been beaten and detained. Maybe, just maybe Dooku could've been reformed and saw the error of his way. Then again, maybe not. ...but then I think of how Palpatine had no further use of him once Anakin had him disarmed (literally) and on his knees. I think he saw working with Palpatine as a means to an end, to teach the Jedi a lesson to not interfere in the politics of the Galactic Republic, and go back to being peace-keepers. Qui-Gon's death further deepened his disgust and set him on a warpath with the Jedi. Too bad he realized too late right when Palpatine said "Do it." That he was just a Pawn, in Palpatine's game.
