If you want to know how the story had a "happy" ending; there was a subplot that each racer had to carry a watermelon in the passenger's seat or else they would be disqualified. So Trixie had her pet monkey steal the watermelon out of Speed's car after he won the race thus technically causing him to lose the race.

I'm actually watching this episode right now...(it's called the Desperate Racer) I bought the DVD set from a shop last year...it's fun enjoying that 60s cheese...but yeah the plot involved needing to drive a pineapple to win the race...gangsters started attacking the racers because one of the pineapples had a jewel hidden in it...Speed was acting a bit out of character, that girl begged him to drop the race but he refused getting angry because he hated the idea of cheating and letting someone else win...it didn't help said brother was extremely hostile to him and even accused him of sending those gangsters to help Speed win the race, they had a fight and he had just stolen Speed's pineapple so when Trixie begged him to take a dive, I am sure Speed was NOT in the mood to want to listen...but for further context there's a landslide and Speed does stop to help save the brother...and shortly after the gangsters attack them proving to both that neither were responsible for the gangsters...Speed gets his pineapple back after a bit of a hot potato, and proceeds to win the race mainly because both of them couldn't win the race since the brother lost his pineapple to the gangsters and he refused to give up his...but then after the race Trixie has Chim Chim steal Speed's pineapple so the brother can win the race...ultimately the jewel was actually in one of the prize supply of pineapples and Chim Chim found it biting into it

@ There is this thing being called considerate of others. Humans are social creatures and not acting in ways that would hurt others is great for the community as a whole. Speed racer lacked this innate feeling which drives this, and so he acted on his own self interest. There is nothing wrong with being a psychopath (as long as others aren't hurt) it's just that it is tougher to understand this feeling. The other guy may have tried his best and maybe still wasn't able to win against speed. Even if he won, he could just let his sister die and have all of the prize money for himself. But that is not how humans generally work, and so it is in the best of interest of Speed to let him win.
