I know it’s not the point of this video but I’d like to say I appreciate the work you’re doing about Josh howerton. Lakepointe is the megachurch of my town (Rockwall, TX) and has an influence on our local issues be it installment of traffic lights (yes, really) or influencing how people vote in coercive and spiritually abusive ways. Lakepointe is multi-campus in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and their influence cannot be understated. Thanks for speaking up about it because as a local resident, it’s been a sore spot for a long time and it’s very cathartic to see my feelings shared by others outside of my DFW bubble.

To evildoers, mercy feels like torture. The incident with Bishop Budde is the most perfect example of this truth that I've ever seen. Trump and the Trump cult know that what they do is wicked in the sight of god, therefore they demand constant fawning praise in order to keep on believing that they can escape the consequences of their actions. Simply stating the truth, as Bishop Budde did, is intolerable to them. Anyone with an ounce of empathy can feel how much they are suffering, but they embrace their own eternal damnation. A simple act of mercy is all it would take to remove themselves from it. But they refuse.

I know that this has been said before, but I continue to reflect on it. I have ended up where I am (as an exvangelical) because of lessons that I learned in evangelicalism. They taught me that we should believe the Bible. And so, I was shocked when the White Evangelical Church (at least the ones for which I had visibility) didn't care for the widow, the orphan, and the alien during the pandemic. But then, I knew that no Church is perfect. So, they taught me that we should repent when we are in sin. Yet, I didn't see any repentance from the White Evangelical Church for the way they handled the pandemic. (And, honestly, I expected that they would ....) They taught me that character in leadership matters. Yet, they overwhelmingly support a womanizing adulterer who constantly lies. They taught me that hiring should be based on merit. Yet, they support policies to enable discrimination so that less qualified white males are more likely to get jobs than those that have been protected by DEI. (And, as mentioned in the video, they appoint woefully unqualified candidates to key leadership positions). I spent years apologizing for the way that the White Evangelical Church treated the LBGTQ+ community, women (writ large), and other discriminated groups because I bought into the principles above. And then I learned that, when the rubber met the road, the White Evangelical Church didn't actually believe those principles. The community I am in now isn't perfect, and they also don't claim to be. And their lives reflect what they preach a lot closer than what I ever saw in the White Evangelical Church.

I’m the parent of a child with a disability and Trump’s comments about disability before naming specific disabilities is just insanity. Despite most disability advocacy organizations speaking out against it, there are parents of disabled children defending him. I will never understand.

I have a family member who has a permanent disability due to contracting polio just before there was a vaccine available. He's lived a good life in spite of it, but I bet he wishes he could have been vaccinated like his slightly younger peers. The US's political experiment in democracy been metaphorically described as being in a stage of adolescence. Will this juvenile alignment with "freedom" (bad actors who recklessly capitalize on the toxicities of colonialism, manifest destiny, and privilege, which are very much a part of her heritage) eventually be overcome by the maturity of aligning with human rights and responsibilites, envisoned and hoped for by some in her birth? To live this out, calls for a courage to change that few can imagine in foresight.

I also want to add that my Mom has worked hard her entire life, is 65, and suddenly couldn’t walk. No insurance policy made any sense, so she had a knee replacement and still is anxious for the bill. We are white and middle class. Health insurance is no better despite our color or class. Unless she laid a ton of money, she wouldn’t be able to have health insurance and as a single woman with her own business, she makes money, but so much is bills and just trying to keep afloat. It’s impossible how healthcare works here. I’ll be angry for the rest of my life just watching her go through this fucking nightmare of trying to get help.

The funny thing about common sense is that it's related to our gut assumptions about the world, which often are taught by the culture we grew up in. Subconsciously we still have negative assumptions about people different from those we grew up around and our own (black man at night is dangerous, fat people are slobs, disabled people are burdens, women are hysterical, men are rational, white people deserve the power they have over other races, etc). The point of deconstruction/ deprogramming/antiracism is to challenge these baked in assumptions with what modern experience and fact has taught us. By saying it's "common sense," they're admitting to the fact that they never questioned what they were taught 50, 60, 70 years ago

I might be an outlier on here as a politically leaning right (Orthodox) Christian. I agree with the what the Episcopalian Bishop said. Off topic, but I’m extremely confused about her being a Bishop. Saint Sebastian of San Francisco and Jackson had great interdenominational dialogue with the Episcopalians in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Orthodox Church saw the Episcopalians has having a near enough ecclesiology worthy of joining Orthodoxy.
