Proof the 2006 NBA Finals was RIGGED

In 2006, the Dallas Mavericks met up against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. After dropping to a 0-2 hole, the Miami Heat won the next four games, becoming just the third team to win a championship after losing the first two games of the series. It was also the first Finals appearance and the first championship for the Heat franchise. However, none of those things are what made the 2006 Finals memorable. What made this series memorable is that it was one of the most rigged series EVER.

I think a lot of NBA fans don't want to believe the league is often rigged because it ruins it for them. It is so easy to rig a basketball game because like 70% of fouls are very subjective. Funny thing is that if you play in a rigged game, you know it immediately. I have, and I noticed, and the ref more or less confirmed it to me days later, saying "You guys weren't supposed to win". The Mavs knew they were playing against both the Heat and the refs, and it affected them. You could see the indecision in their game, they didn't know how to challenge shots for fear of the calls. It messes with you.

@@bradylyons3281 , true enough, I am on the fence about the electromagnetic rim and magnet in the ball thing too. It would be nearly impossible to hide from the public, but that said, it isnt impossible and wouldn't change every shot, and definitely not dunks. However, what can biased calls change? The momentum of the game, they can take the crowd out of a game, change the possession arrow, and also get players in foul trouble, which definitely changes defensive options. It also can change the offensive sets a coach can use in a tight game, forcing the use of timeouts. Not everyone can play like Giannis or Durrant, or shot like Curry from long range. However, an important consideration is that I was also referring to football also, and a biased ref can offset the balance of power between two teams. It may not stop the best from winning, but can turn a blowout series into an intriguing 7 game series, great for ratings and ensure there is no way for an underdog to win also. It is how dynasties and legends are built, which further drive the rating machine. Don't be naive about money, whether we are talking tv contracts, ad revenue, or the gambling side of it, not to mention the refs who get caught in gambling schemes because, they are taking a payout for making sure the game is won or lost.

It was all about getting Shaq another title without Kobe. Also the late greats Alonzo Mourning, Gary Payton, Jason Williams, and Antoine Walker were on that team. The league was simply not going to allow Dallas to sweep them and let those guys retire without a title. Probably the biggest asterisk in professional sports history. The very next year the league opened a NBA referee betting investigation that led to the arrest of active NBA referee Tim Donaghy. Donaghy made hundreds of phone calls to Scott Foster who was one of the officials assigned to the DAL-MIA series during the 2006 finals. Donaghy also admitted that the 2002 Lakers vs Kings series was rigged. Pitiful. These few years from 06-08 nearly ruined the league's product.

This was a dark time for the NBA, we all knew the fix was in, and the thing I seem to hear most is that the NBA was stickin' it to Cuban due to the history. True? MJ shot 18-28 free throws in EIGHTTEEN playoff games lol (Lebron , whos been in 100+ MORE playoff games AND had more of an inside game, has had 12 games with 18-24 free throws). MJ had 15 or more free throws in 6 Finals games..... Lebrons had 15 or more in just ONE Finals game (& hes played in 4 more Finals lol) ... NBA made sure MJ won even when he would shoot twenty something % lol....

Yea that call is weak and is never called on a game decider in the pivot game of the finals. That's a weak call and they don't even call that now, much less never called it in the 80's, 90's, 00's...his hand was barely on his hip on a deciding possession that he missed the shot. Any other era even common would be fuming besides heat fans. Not to mention the ref connections that are banned from the sport. Yea that's a real foul right...go show me every worse foul called in the last minute in the conference and nba finals that you find and then we can talk about someone being touched on the back hip. Still is disgusting referring and is a black mark on the league that has since recovered. LeBron would NEVER have been called for that foul. Duncan or KG wouldn't have been called that in game 5 finals as a foul. And as we are seeing with Jordan, any other argument is laughable. Dirk has 2 rings, one in spirit. And Wade taking Gordon's dunk championship away just shows what we all know...B...I..T....

That is because the refs made sure that the Mavs won in 2011. Since Stern was kissing up to Dirk and Germany that year. He wanted to make the Nba popular more than soccer over there he said and then try to expand it in Germany and in other Europeans countries. It is good for ratings. Had it been clean the Heat might of certainly won the 2011 finals. They almost got cheated too in the 2006 finals , the first four games. Of how the refs favored the Mavs in much of the calls and how they went to the free throw line way too much, more than they should have. Fortunately they called it better after that nasty foul that Stackhouse committed on Shaq. The same foul he committed previously on Suns player Joe Johnson that damaged his eye socket. That is why he got suspended for it in game 5. The Heat could of won both finals against the Mavs if it werent for Stern and his refs constant meddling. And yes I have seen both closely. I know what I'm talking about.

I know it's hard to believe that a team with 1 all star in 2011 could beat a team with 3 all stars that season, but the fact is the mavs had a better overall team and were better in clutch situations. They beat the 2 time defending champs Lakers in a 4-0 sweep in the west semis that year so they weren't a fluke. If the NBA & David Stern wanted to do themselves any favors, they would allow a Miami team with that kind of star power to take over the league and start a new dynasty, but instead a great overall team like the mavs were able to defeat them clean. I've seen all 6 games multiple times and I don't get the sense of any kind of controversy, neither do most ppl. Only a bitter heat fan would make stuff up and not give the mavs credit where credit is due.

@@asv972 I'm not making anything up. The Heat won game 1. Despite the refs trying to keep Lebron out of the game despite those lame foul calls. Which they did much of the series. The Heat were up over 20 points in game 2 of the 2011 finals. And the refs helped the Mavs come back from it. They overlooked several fouls that the Mavericks committed against the Heat and didn't call them so the Mavs had that surge to come back and win game 2. I saw that game. That game was handed to them by the league in Miami. The Heat barely survived game 3 when the refs almost handed the Mavs the game in Dallas too. Then the Mavs won game 4. There was Mavs player Cardinal in game 5 of the 2011 finals where he cheap shot Wade by hitting him at the groin with his knee as Wade was driving to the basket. And the refs letting Cardinal get away with it. He wasn't even called a foul for it. Wade was in and out of the game and it affected his game afterwards. Cardinal should of been suspended and fined for it. The league basically ignored it. And Kidd getting away with a travel at the deciding minute of the 4th quarter in game 5 and then a Heat player being called for a foul on Kidd after. Which gave Kidd a pair free throws. Which they should of called a travel on Kidd before. Then that flop on Chandler where he defended Lebron while going to the basket at the last second. Which Lebron made the layup and should have gotten a three point point play and the Heat would of been up and have possibly won the game. Instead Chandler was given two free throws and then the Mavs was also handed game 5. The guy basically flopped and was away from the circle. He was moving along with Lebron as Lebron was driving to the basket and then Chandler flopped. It should of been an offensive foul on Chandler. Not on Lebron. And any time there was a little slightest touch on Dirk , it was a foul. Are you kidding me? And then the refs made sure that the Mavs won game 6 in Miami with no problem. It was rigged by the league. Like the league almost rigged it by favoring the Mavs in calls the first four games of the 2006 finals. Fortunately the Heat came back and won the series. I sure know what I'm talking about. Don't feel bitter. Besides cheaters never win. Even if they cheat. Which it is apparent.

@@thespaceram2879 There's always gonna be missed calls in EVERY game. You can say they missed a call here or a bs foul there but the fact is every game is going to have questionable calls. Miami had a chance to win in game 2 after dirks go-ahead layup and wade missed what would have been a game winner. Dirk had a chance to take it to OT in game 3 and he missed. People say the Heat had favorable calls in '06, like Dwade going to the free throw line more than the whole dallas team, but I sure as hell am not "bitter" by it and why, because I don't have proof that '06 was rigged even though that conspiracy does exists. It's easy to say the league or Stern had a motive to make the mavs win in "11 but without legit proof and not theories by a bitter Heat fan, we gotta give credit where credit is due. Wade was crazy good in '06 finals & the mavs were the best team with great veterans in '11 finals and won cleanly against a legit superstar Heat team.

I argue constantly that you can't build anything around a center that can't hit FTs. Bill Russell had like 5 HOF players around him. Wilt only has 2 rings. Shaq going from 4 to 2 makes more sense to me even though Wade was the alpha that year.

To people who didn't watch the 2006 finals: You have to have watched the series. It's easy to watch a highlight and criticize. The Mavs game plan was to sag off Wade and get physical when he drives. A lot of the whistles were in anticipation of contact. Not the best reffing but you can't hold Wade accountable. The Mavs game plan made it an excessively difficult series to officiate. They were basically protecting the rim like an O-line protects a quarterback in football... Drop back to shell and smash what comes towards you. What you never see is all the plays where Wade was fouled really hard and no whistle was blown because he missed the shot/layup or losses the ball or something else that wasn't highlight worthy.

To those that don't think the NBA would rig games. Stop thinking of it terms of being a fan. Like, oh they just wanted Shaq to win to make Kobe look bad (why would they care about that?). Or you just hate my team I root for, so you need to find excuses. I can understand Heat fans or Wade fans will feel offended. Or David Stern hated Mark Cuban. Which he probably did, but that would be no factor into something like this. The reason why they would rig games is simple. MONEY! The NBA is a billion dollar business. What do they care about? Money. They could care less about Shaq, Kobe, Wade, Dirk, or any of the players. They only care if they sell. They're just pawns to them. Whether games are rigged, of course is going to be subjective without hard proof. My opinion personally, feel they would rig games to benefit financially, if they can get away with it. That's not to say I believe all games are rigged.

Yea that isn't the whole story, and the Mavs were still shooting inside shots and the FT disparity, let's get that chart. It's all Wade when they wanted a Jordan replacement. Those shots are fouls they don't even call in the finals now, see LeBron vs Golden State. LeBron would have lost vs Wade in this series with how they were calling fouls. And the refs that were active were implicated in gambling rings...right...yea this theory the Mavs got screwed by a couple of shot chart X's is so true haha.
