I used to think that way but not any more. With the costs of parts and labour it quickly becomes a no win game very quickly if you're not careful. These days I buy new with a long warranty so that all we have to pay for in the warranty period will likely be a set of tyres and a battery. Also paying cash means that there's no interest.

well, it is technically. You people in the comments have it ass backwards because you dont even understand the difference between Money or currency. That green paper in your wallet? Cash.. its worth far less than you think. Go ahead, fact-check me.. Go download an inflation calculator for your phone. Take a $100 of 2023' USD because it will always be 1 yr behind data sets... and compare that to a $100 in 1970. You should see that a $100 in 2023 has a buying power of $12.74 or less maybe by now. When I was arguing this back in 2013 it was as high as $24.. At the same time, you should see the buying power of $100 in 1970 is around $884 +/-.. this is why our grandparents in the 70's had a $126 mortgages, to them they felt like they were paying close to a 1000 mortgage back then.. my fathers brand new 1968 Malibu was $3400 and some change OTD back then. When I argued with him about the cost of cars in 2012, I showed him that comparatively, he paid about what at the time a Mid level Toyota Camry was going for - About $23,300. So its not the products that cost more the way most people are describing your money is just worth less.. Another example, a $20 Federal Reserve Note, could in 1933 be taken to any bank and exchanged for a Gold 1oz Coin. if you look today, gold is at the time of writing this - As of 6:14 AM PST on December 13, 2024, the price of gold was $2,677.06 per ounce. Did the USD lose value? or did Golds value increase because its more expensive? MATH doesn't lie, men do. Again feel free to fact check me or revisit your history folks.. Your angry at all the wrong things for all the wrong reasons.

@@inchranger Once again they can ask whatever they want for the vehicle however they've forgotten that they need people to buy their vehicles however people don't need to buy their vehicles. In other words they need us more than we need them. Most people work for a living and cannot afford to pay $60,000 and $80,000 for a vehicle that's only worth $30,000 or $40,000. So once again they can ask whatever they want for their vehicles but that does not mean that the price is worth it to folks that work for a living. Until or unless they understand that it's the customers that will make them or break them they will be out of business and someone else will take their place to make affordable vehicles.
@inchranger10 сағат бұрын
@@webmastersof the pool of customers is smaller, the competition eventually weeds itself out.. and to be honest, there is an Ass for every seat. I get what you are implying, there's another component to this argument that's being unsaid at the moment but in truth, and again math doesnt lie. if the manpower to build/create a product costs $XX.xx per hour to purchase, the cost of manufacturing and materials because EVERYONE wants $XX.xx per hr too... will certainly have a cost of R&D, manufacturing, production, sales, servicing & repair, and eventually that rinses and repeats. if that cost is $80k and as a manufacture I want to make my dealers 4% *, I need to set that MSRP so that between MSRP and Invoice even if my dealer has to practically give the car away at Invoice, they can still make 4% ($3200) if they have to lose their shorts. The information is a bit old by now, but in the 2012-2015 time frame Almost all dealerships made an average of 3-4% on invoice still, with the exception of Porsche at 6% profit wise. The most funny thing is, at that time a lot of dealers were competing against Carmax, who made a whopping average of 13% per copy (sale) and people would get all cocky thinking they rolled their Carmax sales person and stole the deal.. ridiculously ignorant. regardless, dealers will still sell some cars, albeit to a small privileged few, which if you haven't noticed, most Blue States are all for you not having a vehicle to get around in anymore, same with the WEF and UN.. "You will own nothing and be happy" they say.. there will be select people as buyers and sellers that will ride that wave as long as it stays alive until it doesnt and the new thing in Tech is the age. Same as it was when people walked everywhere, to horseback, to cars, to planes and ships.. NO ONE cares if you can afford to buy a vehicle TBH.. because behind you are a 1000 other people who think they can and theres a good chance 380 of them can.. as a dealership if i can sell on average 160 cars a month, cut my overhead and losses and turn a profit with a skeleton crew and be profitable.. i would be selling cars longer than you think. Thats not what I do, im just telling you as an insider in the Automotive industry from the plant level to the sale floor and the aftermarket accessories business, in my 38years, Ive seen a lot more than most. “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” ― George Carlin

@@webmastersof And my second question for you is, HOW do you arrive at the notion that a $80k vehicle is ONLY worth $30-40k? Where do you get those numbers from? IF AI and robots in the next 10 years were to replace 46% of the workforce by 2035-2040 as some predict.. WHO do you think is going to be selling vehicles and or even buying vehicles? think back a hundred years what people were doing. then go back another 100 years.. You seeing whats been yet?

Sort of like a retailer who increases the prices by 40%, then has a 30% off sale. The reality is, what they are selling is still overpriced.

$7,000 OFF a vehicle which was overprced is still to little....to late.. Nobody has good credit anymore. Nobody can afford car loans anymore... It's all done.

I'll tell you right now bro the car markets have still not learned their lesson that Toyota truck that has 200 + 1,000 Mi on it should literally be about 8,500 to 9500 bucks that is it

When they are starting to drop prices....just WAIT. They will panic eventually! Imagine the interest (floor plan) costs!

Nissan management would probably like to help out their dealerships, but they seem to be broke.

Most of these vehicles been rotting in dealer's lot for more than 2years. Prices should have been cut in half by now. The only person i saw driving a brand new car is my coworker who got a $1/hr raise. 😂
@loufaiella335414 сағат бұрын
lot rot!! every one will need a new battery and tires when it finally sells!! The oldest trick.... they overprice used cars and then say for a little more you can get a new one. LOL

Manufacturers and dealers screwed over customers. We simply walk away, no matter how much the discount is, especially when prices of items have gone through the roof.

I've been wanting one of the 2 door Broncos or Wranglers, but I can't justify buying a new car that I would rarely drive. They also have reached a price point that is absurd for a vehicle that is designed to be driven off road. My 10 year old Explorer has under 50k miles.

Several yrs ago, I learned Mike had sold off all his dealerships except for the Ford dealership & his wife kept her Honda shop. Stunned was my reaction! I knew Mike well. He had accrued the equivalent of several large fortunes, flew around in private planes, and loved making more and more $$$$$. as few do other than car dealers. It's like a prospector hitting a rich streak of gold! There's no stopping 'em! That was more han 5 yrs ago, but I knew as soon as he told me over lunch one day he'd sold out of the car business..I knew he knew something was coming in the car business, and he wanted NO PART OF IT!!!

Yeah... I've gone to an e-bike... takes the 31 mile round trip commute off of my car... over 14,000 miles to-date... Did it more for exercise than keeping miles off the vehicle but that's an added upside to me.

Tesla is on pace to sell as many cars this year as they did in 2023, with higher margins.
@JoeKubinec44 минут бұрын
I think this is a sign of the split economy, where there is a sector with lots of silly money and then there is everybody else. Anyone I know with a Tesla makes big bucks. A Tesla is a luxury buy imo because the use-case for owning an EV is so limited.

My 2019 f150 xlt was 48k. A 2024 xlt is 72k at my local dealer. Covid prices should have gone down. Quality is still shit so why are they so much more now ?

Manufacturers listened to customers about dealerships adding additional dealership markups, so they just added extra markups into the MSRP!

Is your area super-wealthy? Or do the dealerships in your area have really deep pockets or sit on very high dollar land? Just curious.

02 Honda Accord here with 267k miles did the water pump and timing chain at 175k its the 3.0 6cyl vtech still runs strong as hell and original tranny still good no issues ! Paid 2400 for got it in 2018 !
If only people would stop buying cars with money they don't have, dealerships would start lowering prices. Their strategy to lower production and increase prices is ridiculous and I hope they fail miserably. Reducing production isn't all of a sudden going to give customers more $ to spend. It sucks b/c so many ppl out there desire brand new cars and therefore, purchase brand new cars at dealership marked up prices b/c the stealerships were able to trick customers into thinking they can afford the expensive cars, when in reality, they can't afford them.
