These type of videos are the best. There are thousands of video showing forms and applications. Those are great and all but for people who know that already, the philosophical and the cerebral side is what you learn from the most. Because it opens your mind to not be so rigid in your thinking and potentially allows you to find a better way of applications. You should read as many different books on a historical subject before you form your own conclusion. The same applies to martial arts. Listen and learn from others before you find the "best" way for you.

I have done a tiny bit off bjj and wresting back in the day, from what I can tell wing chun done semi right right would be one of the best styles against takedown.

Well explained. Again, you’ve helped us understand the concepts vs the tactics which is often overlooked. Thanks for making these videos

You are now known as the.. "Wing Chun Prophet".. Dom.. AwEsOmE stuff.. you make too many good points to even focus on a specific one.. I have found tons of stuff hidden in plain sight inside Siu Nim Tao.. and that Siu Nim Tao feeling of all those joints being engaged, that one develops from the slow practice then lives inside your Chum Kiu and Biu Jee.. like an inner shell or sleeve. A voice from the Wilderness says.. "there are UNLIMITED possibilities with Wing Chun.." I've had to deconstruct the Northern Shaolin forms that i learned 30 years ago as well..after learning Wing Chun, I felt the moves were too large and useless.. but again after learning Wing Chun, I found all sorts of other ways to apply the Shaolin.. and many of the sets have anti-grappling moves within ... not kick boxing type moves like in the shaw brothers kung fu movies but actual anti-wrestling and grappling moves. So I think it does take an understanding of whom the Chinese were fighting both in the North and South..and what they were fighting against. They did adapt movements and structure to fit their bodies.. so some of the dogmatic rules dont apply to other body shapes and sizes..but the principles of structure still does.. and this can be proven or dis-proven by forward pressure from an opponent and then tested in a free form sparring session. I think many students are in that "show me some techniques of anti-grappling" state of mind so they may not understand the depth of what you are talking about.. but when they touch hands and try to enter to grapple and take you down then they feel the forward heaviness of that Jom Sao that seems impossibly strong. lol..

Facts: The knee is a hinge joint, that is, a joint where the ends of two bones meet, while the ankle and the kua are ball joints, that is they are joints moving within a socket. A ball joint has free movement in all directions while a hinge joint does not. My opinion: adduction in yee gi kim yeung ma should be done at the kua and not at the knees. Trying to adduct by rotating at the knees to a position that is not meant for the knees to be in will imo not only weaken the knees over time but will eventually do irreparable damage to the knees.

When I first saw your title I thought Master Wong and Red chucks have mentioned anti grappling from wing chun before. Then when I warched your video it was so much more in depth. I only know a little karate passed down from my father as a young adult been redoing the same things for years to make it mine. I know ive heard you say before other people think your wing chun is to karate and violent I find that funny with all the point fighters out there. But? Hey I love your stuff. I have interest in never been to a school though. Ive messed around with some friends who wrestled in school makes me wish I would have took it back then. Just never liked the idea of scrambling around with another big sweaty man in a leotard looking thing. Wasnt till I heard Ando mierzwa say It matters when you want to know how to get that big swetty man up off you. I been studying the first form offline for a while it actually helped me get better at katas or forms which I dont care for till I saw how wing chun going slow helped you all that was happening and making sure to build the correct muscle memory using the right stuff. Im learning more and more about my body. Im big and tall got big shoulders both been injured one more then the other. I hurt my lower back before learning to really use my hips and have them loosend up. I dont know wing chun but I love studying and implementing parts of it to improve my karate meaning how im learning to move thats right for me. Thanks as always.

Bil Sau is meant to attack soft tarkets. Tendon training and conditioning build a strong foundation. However, in a fight, the eyes are a hard target, and the skull will always win.

You really know what the hell you are talking about dude, and it's refreshing. I'm debating on getting back to making some videos myself so we can collaborate. Fuck the views or monetization. Just working on this thing we call wing chun. I was too focused on the bullshit last time.

One last thing that should be talked about is.. what happens when somebody covers up? Or leans back to get out of the way? They forget why we stand that way.. it’s for mobility

I forgot to add I have a mkiwara board and its similar in giving energy back like the wall bag. If you throw to quick with no pressure at the end or not enough structure it will push you back.

The thickness is not an issue in the training or application of wing Chun, however height and specifically larger reach becomes an issue with alot of wing Chun, not saying that can't be overcome , and although they can still use it, just a bit differently and would look closer to jkd or something. But it would be more difficult for someone with an 80 or so inch reach

14:02 Interesting.. you had said at about 14:00 or so.. that hitting a wall bag is good money cuz they have no give. Couldn’t agree more. Then you says that you or us have to learn how to hit n take energy back into ourselves into the ground.. my thing , or idea is.. to hit like the bullet like you said.. it stay so detached, that after contact? My hand is a LIMP NOODLE on escape mode. It’s a different kind of hitting in jkd. I love all of it. But this way I have is like hurling a projectile and NOT LETTING IT COME BACK IN. 💯💥🥊😎

A) why open 45 then open 45? one could open as close to 90 as they could get, then open to be 45ish.. that gets you a bit further apart (maybe enough to not have to adjust afterwards) B) why start with feet absolutely together? who stands like that... ever? wing chun is supposed to be practical, you should be able to get into any of its stances from natural positions... I start from feet slightly apart and do it, I don't have to adjust afterwards ever... (maybe a little to face a mirror if I want to be squared up with a mirror, or my students, but if I'm practicing at home, where ever I end up facing is gonna be forward in relation to my initial stance) C) the stance is really only important for forms, when sparring or fighting, I quickly move forward or to an angle when someone gets within range, and rarely come back to that stance.

for people with bigger frames... you can still get your elbows close to center with time, perseverance and stretching, I know a guy thicker than Izzo who can get his elbows in front and across his center line... he was stretching and stretching and stretching all throughout his training to get to that point, you can be swole and do this, you can be fat (like me) and do this. ..... and then it kinda became moot when you realize the point of getting your elbows to the centerline was to instill a habit to keep your elbows behind your wrists and have that as the angle on which you apply force.

Your back muscles and pecs are tight you might want to stretch a little bit but other than that I mean you're supposed to make whatever style work for you so if I do it in a specific way it might not work like that for you you might have to modify it at some point just like boxing not all boxers stand the same because your boxing stance could be uncomfortable for me so my boxing stands might be similar to like let's say Muhammad Ali and yours could be roughly like Mike Tyson just for example so everybody does it different it's still boxing still the same sport same combat same type of fighting just in a different way different stands done differently to fit their specific physical needs so Wing Chun shouldn't be any different in that perspective and as far as weightlifting I don't live like I used to but I always love lifting weights it's good for you it makes you strong so if you ever do encounter resistance you can resist or whatever so for everybody that likes to lift weights it doesn't matter what martial art you do you like lifting weights lift them just stretch make sure you always stretch after and that you put in as much practice as you can and just do the best you can

You must adapt to yourself. Wing Chun can't mandate that. Its not Wing Chun fault, its someone interpretation mistake. My Sifu would never say that. Some are mistaken.
