in the real world curve radii do change. Curves must transition smoothly from straight sections into/out of curves, especially between back to back (s-curve) turns. Otherwise when driving you'd need to instantly have your wheel turned when you go into a curve.

I found dark grey concrete powder to be the best block that somewhat looks like a road texture. If you ignore the fact they are affected by gravity, or will change to concrete if a water source is placed on top of it, it's a decent block to use in vanilla Minecraft.

There is a road that I have to travel everyday to go to school and it’s curve is very tight at one end and very straight at the other. Back in September 2015, many bridges washed out in my area due to intense rainfall. This road was a victim of this and when they rebuilt it, they did not change this curve AND they flattened out the embankment on it. So now we have a road that still curves very sharply at one end and is basically straight at the other, this time with no embankment. Did I also mention that this curve is at the bottom of two hills?? Yes, the road curves awfully at the bottom of two hills AND it has a bridge so it’s extremely susceptible to ice build-up in the winter. The absolute worst conditions.
@smakkacowtherealone3 жыл бұрын
I heard from real engineering that roads are in the shape of spirals so drivers gradually turn the wheel into the curves, but for minecraft I'm sure this is ok. And when you talked about tightening the curve, it's making me reconsider.

5 months later, and I think I have perfected using this method, even in my survival world. If anyone else had issues getting circles right, I'll explain the blood, sweat, tears and agony I went through to figure it out, with the help of a friend. Basically, i used a website called donatstudios to generate circles. When making circles in the gen., Its important to always make sure the diameter is an ODD NUMBER since you cannot have the center of the circle be more than one block, otherwise you will have a road that becomes more narrow or wide and it will look bad. You can always guesswork but trust me, i tried it, and while it does the job, it looks just terrible! Also, you can use a tangent circle calculator to find the coords of the center of the next circle, but the nice thing about doing it in survival is that you don't need to do this, you only need to draw out the circles with a compass on a scale map of your world (printouts of journeymap mod screenshots are very helpful for this!) Then measure the diameter of the circles, and where they should line up so you can avoid obstacles and other terrain in the way, or cliffs, etc. Sorry if i explained this poorly, if you need clarification just ask, its 3:13 am and I am very tired

@blockyfawx-w-21673 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the techniques outlined in the video should apply to Metro tunnels as well. Stations should be relatively easy, usually have at least one platform that's high enough to be level with the train, stairs or imitation escalators leading to another underground area with shops and stairways up to different streets. You can also add other stairways down to other Metro lines if you want an interchange there. Hope I helped!

0:42 that is exactly not what you want at the beginning and end, you could even see it in your footage. Especialy on high speed curves you want to ease into it with a transition curve, otherwise you’d have to yank your steering wheel at the very beginning and end of a curve and wouldn’t need to steer for 100% of the curved section

Actually roads don't have a constant radius, good highways have a gradually decreasing radius. If roads were to have a constant radius, drivers would have to abruptly rotate their steering wheel quickly and accurately, and they will most likely overshoot and cause hunting oscillations.

I tried to first find the 45 deg mark and the 0 or 360 deg mark, then counting the number of blocks on the circle separating these two points, then divided 45 deg by those blocks to get a decimal which I then multiplied by 15 deg to get an approx. of 13 blocks round the circle which is 15 deg. Not sure if this is right.

@@blockyfawx-w-2167 Thank you so much for telling me on how to create a working town. I was also wondering if you can tell me how to create a working neighborhood too. :)
@poisedperson64753 жыл бұрын
@@razzradical3157 most neighborhoods do not have 4 way intersections, unless it is two main streets of the suburb. Road: suburban. Think houses, parks, etc.. Street: road, but wider, and maybe a bus route goes on there, more traffic. Basically leads to a bunch of roads on the side using roundabouts or "T" stop signs (3-way intersection). Main road: two lanes, standard traffic intersection, with advanced green lanes and merging right-hand lanes. Usually separated by a median with grass/shrub, but can also have a double-lined yellow line to signal opposite direction traffic. Highway/freeway: large intersections, multiple lanes, highspeed transit, barriers to block sound (either concrete walls or natural, or just making it far away from residential and office spaces), please, please please don't make them cut through cities if possible, but if need be, then cover it with lots of trees. Having curves in your roads makes things much nicer in suburbs, too, but making it curve with the land (ie a nearby river bank) makes it nicer. Basically having it layered as curves with the river, hill, or anything else be a reference gives it a uniform and nice shape. Grid lines look bad at the end of the day, and the neighborhood will get very boring, very quickly, but for downtown, grid is ok. Not ideal, but if need be, its ok.
