I have started a Phaius collection, I kept part, in a pot in the orchid house and then plant a bit out in the garden. One advantage of being in the tropics...

That's awesome! There is an orchid nursery that carries about 10 - 15 different varieties of these. Not sure how far you are but EFG nurseries in Deland I believe crosses them. They may be able to ship them if your interested. How did the ones you planted in your garden do? I haven't planted any in my landscape yet although I plan on doing it in the future.

I'm doing great and yes I am always busy with my orchids...they play an important role in my life and I am very blessed to have them. My orchids didn't do bad at all this winter. It didn't get too cold and the winter was very short. Thank goodness! I am sorry to hear that your Tiger Orchids did not bloom yet. I hope that they do bloom for you soon. I have a couple of them and was told that in order for them to get healthy enough to bloom they need a lot of light and also planted with a lot of other taller plants. So I moved them into more light where a lot of my plants grow with it...I am hoping that it helps and maybe they will give me some blooms this year. I am also happy to see you on here and glad that we have gotten a chance to reconnect again. Sending you blessings from Florida! HAPPY GROWING!

The flower looks a lot like a laelia. Is it a constant bloomer like spathoglottis or seasonal?
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
These normally bloom in the spring time. A mature plant can give multiple spikes with an abundance of blooms and during the rest of the time will have very lush and tropical foliage.

@@PictureMaria1 I am from Assam, NE India. Many famous dendrobium species that many hobbyists grow are from my place. But it is a sad thing that illegaly the orchids (jewels of the tropical forest/ Queen of plants) are being recklessly stripped off their habitat keeping very little for tourists to see. It is a shame that i did so myself while i brought the Phaius cluster home but back then i was very very new to orchids and their endangered state. Happy growing Maria ! 😘😍

I wish I could grow them in my flowerbed, but it gets too cold here
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
They do make awesome specimen plants in landscapes and look so tropical with their spectacular lush foliage. I haven't grown them in my garden yet but one day I may decide to give it a try. They are very easy to grow and can do extremely well potted also. Do you have any?
@denisesorchidparadise14116 жыл бұрын
no, and no room for a large pot indoors at this time,Thats why I would love it in the flowerbed! I'm trying ginger this year, it was beautiful this summer and doubled in size, I mulched it heavy ,so now I will see if it comes back next spring! my fingers are crossed

Why didn’t you put them on the ground?

Aurora Saldana I like the portability of keeping it in pots that way I can move them around if needed. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING!
@lucevirtuale6 жыл бұрын
awesome! how you water them? do they need to stay moist?
@PictureMaria16 жыл бұрын
No extra treatment for them. They normally should be watered about twice a week but it all depends on your conditions and no they don't need to always stay moist. I actually treat them like regular garden plants. Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING! :)

Thanks! I will get one for sure :)

They can get really big. I have seen plants which are 5 feet tall and have leaves 1 foot broad.
@linthoisanayumnam43765 жыл бұрын
I think they're corms rather than tubers and bulbs.
@PictureMaria15 жыл бұрын
Yes I think you are right...they do have more of a corms appearance.
