I never tried it this way. But I have propogated rose of sharon successfully by soaking the stems in willow tea and then sticking the cuttings right into the ground. I got a success rate of about 98 out of 100 cuttings and a beautiful hedge. We built a new homestead on a new property and im starting this all over again. Thanks for sharing your method. I might try both ways.

Thank you for this video, I didn't know they rooted easily and it was particularly helpful to learn that the oxygen in the water dissipates, now you have said it, it seems obvious. When i first moved into my house there was 10 Bushes side by side and they were about 14ft tall and super bushy. At one point i guess they were popular for everyone to have that they have taken over.

Once you put potting mix in, it's much more difficult to clean the stems and change the water. I would wait until there are good roots, then you could change the water one last time and add potting soil to slowly transition it to soil only.

You certainly could. I've done it at various times of the year with success. My favorite time is cuttings in spring, pot up once rooted, then plant in early fall to give some time to get a bit established before cold weather (remember, though, I live in Texas where our coldest months are usually January - March).

First off if you people don't like her boy then DON'T BLEEPING WATCH then !! Now back to my comment. I have been doing your method for about a month now and I dipped the stems in rooting hormone when I did put them in water. I change the water religiously about every 2-3 days with well water. How long does it take to get the roots long enough to be able to plant ? As I said before, I have been doing about a month now and I have a lot of rootlets but none big enough to really plant. Any help ? Thank you
@homesteadingatkookergehoft8131
@homesteadingatkookergehoft8131 6 жыл бұрын
I think it took mine a few months to develop roots long enough for me to feel comfortable planting them. Since you used rooting hormone to start, it may shave off some waiting time for ya. Either way, if you have root bumps or rootlets, I would say keep at it, 'cause it's working and will get there eventually. :0)
