I love Snake Plants! They really are my favorite house plant. I have collected many varieties off of sites like etsy. Unfortunately while many big box and other plants stores have stepped up their game when it comes to offering newer and more rare plants, they mostly still seem to be selling the same common type of Snake Plants. I hope eventually that will change as the ones you buy online can come with a very steep price. I haven't had the best of luck with propagation, but I will keep trying. Rotting can definitely be a problem, also, I noticed with some of my plants that the new leaves that form from the propagation do not look like the mother plant but instead come out mostly green. Anyway, thanks Nell for the great info on the Snake plant. I liked the part where you mentioned that sometimes Snake Plant leaves can just flop over without there being anything really wrong with the plant. That, and some leaves just dying on their own can happen at times.

Hi - I love Snake Plants & am always on the lookout for a new one to add to my collection. Yes, the leaves on the taller ones do "flop". That's when it's time to propagate. Nell

Awesome! Would you suggest dipping the cuttings on a rooting hormone to speed the process?
@JoyUsGarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Some people use the rooting hormone but I never have. From what I understand, the rooting hormone doesn't speed the propagation process, it just helps to ensure success. Nell

So if you cut a leaf into multiple pieces, it would simulate growth of many more new leaves, correct? To get a fuller result faster? But would those cut pieces keep their blunt top edges or would they eventually grow into points again?

Can snake plants grow and thrive in normal soil or do they really NEED cactus/succulent soil?

I tried doing this in peat moss+ perlite mixture . I water using spray bottle to keep water to a minimum. I still got rot. Whats going on here?
