I’ve played around with this a bit lol. Part of the problem with it going out when turned up high with no restrictions, is that tiny tube they used for a nozzle on this model torch head. It’s small diameter causes the gas to flow out at too high a velocity. Basically it’s flowing out faster then it can burn. If you can get a bigger tube on it to slow the gas velocity down it should be much easier to keep lit when cranked up.

Just did this with mine, but I left the plug and used a paddle bit to leave a conical hole that doesn't go all the way through. I now have a bigger flame, but can still run the torch inverted. Thanks for the tip!

I don’t know if you remember but the old propane torches came with air vents that were adjustable with a small nut to lock the NOZZEL in place!!! Yeah you got an older turbo model

have you ever thought of the camping appliance connector hose its basically a 4 foot hose with a 20 lb bbq fitting on one end and the torch / camping stove fitting on the other end

That's what I did in my shop. I have a bottle top torch on the end of a 12' hose hooked up to a 20# tank. Works great, and it never goes upside down.

When I was a kid, ALL generic propane hand torches came with a "Turbo" attachment I think you could easily braze with them on light gauge steel.

But it sucks that real mapp gas is no longer available, where I am, which burned hotter.... So brazing some steel attachments onto my steel bike frame, is going to be a pain, even when using the TS800T....

​@nc3826 i modified mine to use a heavy duty air pump for a large fish tank no clue how many cfms it moves but its fully metal an has fins for air cooling bout 1.5x the size of my fist i put a tube pumping air into where the lil sinter peice is or where it draws air in..u can feel it coming out the nozzle if done right an i can do light glass blowing with it u gotta have the turbohead but shit gets hot for not using any oxygen

No flashback arrestors are mostly used on dual tank set ups like oxy-acetylene. With a single tank set up and no oxygen there is no need for flashback arrestors.

And honestly, torching up a quartz banger like it was 19'something I'd rather not have in common with a crackhead. 'Specially when things like Puffco portable electric rig. @200$ It's kinda expensive for the casual type but it's definitely worth it, Especially for the everyday smoker. I was pretty skeptical but Puffco Peak is by far the best e-rig I've had period. Only thing I don't like is how much oil it collects. I just collects it all up and make some pink Starburst.... Damn... Im ripped too... Thc-v has me talking like a drunk bastard. I gotta go man, everyone's looking at me and I'm freaking out---

I'm here because I bought that same p.o.s., and can't braze aluminum using mapp gas with it. ALSO- I was heating the entire pipe with a 1200° Milwaukee heat gun. Already melted the torch trying to heat a pipe from the inside. What trash. I thought I was losing it! Now I realize is just another American enterprise to screw me. Thx.

You can also find it in some hardware stores right next to the steel wool. Kind of a specialty item tho, so you may go online. It come in several degrees of "fineness" too.

I clicked on this post to laugh at it.... But it turned into a learning experience instead.... Nice job of engineering.... Not sure if it passes the TS 4000, but it definitely seems like an improvement from its original specs... But with Bernzomatic 'now' having a lifetime warranty on their torch heads it's really not worth the effort.... So I hope you found the money to do the upgrade.... Good luck....

@@geraldhartman2336 if the small oxy acyt torch kit are what you think too big then nothing else will do you,,i dont see why you got no room on your truck for that? but there is also oxy propane torch that will cut metal,,but the cyls will be too big for you too

So.. not enough heat. let's drill out the sintered orifice. Hmm.. I bet I can hammer that out completely using a screwdriver. Uhh.. need more air so maybe a couple more holes in the neck of the torch. Works sorta ok for now until I'm on the 11 o'clock news standing in front of the flaming skeleton of my house. If you need a TOOL buy one from a company who did the R&D, found the shortcomings and put it on the market with sufficient margin they could afford product liability insurance while making a profit. Or you can do THIS.
