Thank you so much for this lesson. Very few videos for those of us who have no clue how to start one. I have this one and a MS 194T and couldn’t start either. Now I can.

That video was perfect. I bought this MS170 cheap from a neighbor that couldn’t get it to run right. I stopped by my Sthil dealer and they found out someone worked on it and messed up the trigger mechanism. He straightened everything out and using your great procedure it runs like a strapped ass ape ! 😃 Thanks again !

I had seen at least four tutorials and the only tutorial that explained vety well was this one. Especially that lever was not remaining in place, unless you press run button.

This was Barry helpful because I’m going to barrow my dads Stihl chain saw to cut up my downed tree limbs… now I don’t have to Eff up his equipment in the process lol 😆

Nothing is worse than messing up Dads stuff. I kid you not, 5 minutes after I uploaded this video I got several paragraphs texted to me from my dad about what I needed to do now to properly put the saw away lol. 🤷

I bought me a MS170 and used it fell a tree, then didn't use if for a while so I had to use it yesterday and I couldn't get it to start and I watch a few YT videos but none helped so I took it to Ace Hardware where I bought it and the technician helped me. It was flooded, so none of the normal steps worked, so he took out the spark plug, cleaned it and it started up. I actually just sold. my MS170 today for $160. It is too bad, I used it once but I am just not a small engine guy and I need something to be ready when I need it, so I am buying an electric one (EGO). Not sure if i made a mistake selling, it was a nice chainsaw.

The heal goes on lip om the right side of the handle instead of your toes on the left side. As per the manual

...umm no, that is not correct

I always put my toe in the left side... I never read a manual on it so... But my flip flops fit in there good!

I tried starting holding with one hand and another to pull. Luckily I don’t look like Chucky with stitches on head. 😅

I'm glad your ok! Everytime my mother tells me she wants to cut tree limbs etc I'm like if I don't go over there she might cut her toes, foot, arm off, and so on... Makes me look like a horrible son😂
