Do we think that the caller got lucky here and should have run out of value?
@Super69Beast4 жыл бұрын
yes the caller got lucky and yes he ran out of value because this opponent wasn't capable of thinking the bet was polarized and could have been a bluff
@n8ball024 жыл бұрын
Bart- At first glance it seems that way but breaking down the hand, I can get on board with the river shove. The villain is definitely not a thinking player with his call, but in a normal situation the original raiser cold calling the flop bet with 3 or 4 guys behind says he connected with the board very well. His hand is either made or he is drawing with a pair and a 5 (or straight draw). I think the 5 makes less sense as the bets start to grow as well.while I wouldn't take this route I can see merit to thinking the guy had a made hand already. Plus if you have a 5 in this situation and the guy shoves when hearts make it, its not a good feeling to try to call that. With all that being said, this is a perfect example of why people need to stop donk betting. It never seems to make sense to me. In this example if he checks the flop, the PFR is going to bet his 2 pair. Our hero can raise the flop and get a call. From that point, I would have him leaning dramatically toward made hand. Then the Hero can shove on the turn and its not an outrageous size. If the PFR bets $60, hero raises to $180. A call leaves $480 pot with 400 behind. Shove that $400 on the turn and not worry about the river at all. I honestly think this is a solid hand to show why donk betting is not the best strategy. What do you think?

@@n8ball02 Yea with this many players in the pot, you need to check raise and shut it down pretty quickly I think.
@n8ball024 жыл бұрын
@@jordananderson4710 Yes sir. You check raise the flop and chase all the draws out and when he calls, you just jam the turn with about a pot sized bet left.
@gregjohnson67934 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he got lucky. About the ONLY hand that calls and he beats. To me, I'm ok with every street but I would check and evaluate the river. The SMALL possible value lost in the 76 that still CALLS - is not worth the risk. Check check is fine on a bad run out, where you didn't flop the nuts anyway. Hero could have been behind every street. I've seen the nut straight check back on run outs like this. So Check / call reasonable, check/fold vs a jam, given this player type.

2 pair on this board by villain seems so out to left field. I would have expected V to reraise at least by the turn with how wet that board was unless he is of the most passive variety and then to call off when all the draws get there seems super fishy. Hero definitely lucked out to the max with this line.

He was calling the villain a donk but how bad is the callers range to get called on a wet board. I imagine he makes a lot of rash decisions and is not a winning player.

Mike mattusow used to play his hand this way. Repping the straight or flush on the river because he doesn’t want to get bluffed on the river if he checks. Esfandiari criticised mike’s play. Saying he should check out of position if he’s afraid villain has a flush/straight and evaluate whether to call a river bet. What should be the optimal strategy here?? Being out of position sucks!!!

all in for 2x pot? you need a lot of bluffs to be using such a huge bet size and I don't think hero has them. I think people could find a fold with overpairs with that sizing (especially if they don't see you bluffing with the same 2x pot bet sometimes)

Never try to get inside the mind of a fish. There's no logic, no consistency, and some just *like* raising pre.
