I don't mind living near the train tracks because I love to listen to the sound of the train when it comes and goes and the honking sound also. Love the rain too.

What I noticed over time is, if you long for something, and you finally get it, and you see it all the time...eventually you take it for granted and don't notice it....because its always there. Just like a place with a view...or us with a beach. We always lived far from the beach, but ALWAYS wanted to go to the beach. After a year of living close to the beach....we stopped going....because its right there. We no longer longed for it, because its right there.

There are platted additions/subdivisions all over the SW states offering lots for sale with no improvements nor probably no expectation of improvements. Some are accessable...others maybe... I've heard of property/tax bills being passed down for generations. One near Sierra Blanca, Tx. involves $12.50 in annual. property taxes. The county won't foreclose for unpaid taxes because it doesn't want the property either. In the 50's my parents bought 2 lots in a planned development near Daytona Beach, Fl. 20 years later one lot was in the middle of a thriving residential area...somewhat valuable. The other lot on the waterfront finally had access roads and 10 years later became very valuable. It took a lot of patience to deal with the state at that time... It finally worked out ok...

They have introduced the Incred-I-Box, which they are promoting as one of the most affordable pocket-size houses on wheels in recent times. Incred-I-Box is also the world’s first tiny home built on the assembly line, according to the manufacturer. It is a pre-built 8×16 foot (2.4x4.9 meter) tiny house that is reasonably priced at $25,000 (24,784 Euro) and is delivered in semi-furnished condition. If you don't need to use it as your main home, the Incred-I-Box can be a dedicated office space or your getaway from home when you want to escape the hustle and bustle of urban living. I love that country over there, but am not attracted to Carrizozo. Nearly bought a place in town years ago, but it fell through and it was for the better. This was back when there was a grocery store there. To me, it is a town that has lost its reason to exist. No town leadership and view for what could be. In some way sad, but everything has a season. Maybe someone will see the opportunity and spark something there.

The city government is broke everything is skeleton crew. The fire department put a huge 4th of July display but they were attacked at a city hall meeting so they withdrew any charitable activities.
@Oilfieldscout2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesortiz5388 it was heading this way 25 years ago. The only saving grace is it is the county seat. It did not take long to see the little town/small man attitude of the city government. One contributing factor to the grocery store closing. There was so much potential wasted. Everyone I knew either moved to Roswell, Ruidoso or Alamogordo and I have lost touch with them over a quarter century.

@@Oilfieldscout the city had a surplus and a full crew the a city cop beat some guy up who was just sitting in a chair. A county cop saw it happen and turned him in. The beaten guy won a 60k lawsuit from the city. Also two employees bilked the city for thousands in overtime. It's a pitiful little town now. I miss the fresh air.

Perhaps you could get a multi year lease or lease option? The months you’re not there, list it for rent by the month on camping sites. There’s no time like the present. Prices will eventually soften moving forward, if the recession predictions come to fruition. So, keep your powder dry!

You could set up some green houses out there and grow banana trees in them. Rusty likes his bananas. I think he'd need a septic tank eventually with a flush toilet. Eventually, it's just easier and less hauling garbage out.
