Noodling around with my Sequential Prophet X. It's pure synth magic.

I have the Prophet X, and I have never heard anything as lush or as detailed as the Prophet X, when your actually mixing and manipulating between different samples ie. Moog Saw and a Prophet T8 Pulse or something like that, then blend in the synth sounds, you can get some truly amazing sounds. The sounds are so vast and detailed, and what's more it sounds like a Prophet..or anything else for that matter. For those who knock it and say its too expensive for what it is, I suggest you try one. It takes you on a journey like no other synth will. Every time you switch it on it takes you to places you have never been to before, and some of the pads....they are to die for.

Even if you buy those sample packs, the PX sounds nowhere near like a VCO Prophet, a Moog or an Obie - even if you bypass the filter. Either the samples are crap, sounding indirect and muffled, or there‘s something in the signal path making it sound totally lifeless. You can make nice patches with the PX and some samples (tonal percussion!); nevertheless it‘s the crappiest thing Sequential/DSI released in this century - also due to ridiculously amateurish firmware programming.

Anyone making bad sounds on this synth is bad at synthesis. The filters are beautiful. The 8dio samples are often a bit meh. But get the PX Toolkit and add your own sounds. Do the work, and you’ll find out how beautiful this synth can really sound. People watch two KZbin videos and declare a synth is terrible. Most synths you can make great sounds if you actually do any work with them.

These are great. Nice work on the presets. And nicely played, the motifs you chose are perfect for each sound.

This must be the best synth demo I have ever heard. I‘ve heard some good demos of the PX but have been looking for that wow moment and this is really on another level. Fantastic work. I cannot wait to get this.

Thanks for the kind words, Steve. This synth is my big love. The combination of samples, regular oscillators and the analogue filter opened up a new dimension of sound design for me.

@@calutron8288 Great to hear, I've ordered a PX and cannot wait, chose this over the Quantum as I feel it has a lot more soul and mojo. I also think that people who think it's limited in sound design are looking at it the wrong way.

I was looking for a demo that would make it sound worth the investment... and there I FOUND IT!!! Thanks for your video. I feel like this synth is just perfect for film score, but at the same time it's so versatile it can do much more than that! I'm scared they'll discontinue it before I have time to spare and buy it... gaaaaargh I MUST have it !! !

Just got mine a couple of days ago. Wow. Spent yesterday going through presets and wearing my fingers out, forgot how much fun it is to actually play a keyboard. Today I paired it up with an Elektron Octatrack with the PX set to one of the drum spread presets and turned into a techno monster dance machine.

Hello I congratulate you, it is incredible how it sounds, I just bought a prophet xl, can you show me some tips to do something similar, thank you very much
@calutron82884 жыл бұрын
Congratulations to you for purchasing this synth. It's a dream. To get the sounds in the video I mainly worked with layers and different ways to mix them. There's Layer A and B, and each of these two layers have instrument 1 & 2 plus oscillator 1 & 2 - so there are a lot of different sound sources you can blend, mix, combine. You can use the modwheel and the two sliders to fade in/out sounds while you're playing (modwheel, sliders as sources in the mod matrix, volume of instruments and oscillators as destinations). Reverse mode for the samples is always good for some creepy effects. You can also use the LFOs to manipulate the sample parameters, that's a good way to get interesting sounds. The filter is also a very powerful tool to form the sound of the samples. And finally you can use the effects to make the whole sound bigger and deeper (delays, reverbs) or weirder (ring mod, rotary, distortion). Enjoy your Prophet!

Very good sounds, in your opinion, is this preferable to the quantum and worth the hefty price tag?
@calutron82885 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, thanks for the comment. I don't have any regrets purchasing the Prophet X in spite of the price. The samples/oscillators/analogue filter architecture makes it a very special instrument. I've been playing it for about 10 months now and I still have these "wow" moments. The Quantum has a different architecture so the comparison is not that easy. But when it comes to the playing and sound design experience I think the Prophet X is more hands-on, more direct, less menu oriented - that's what I prefer. So if you're looking for an intuitive instrument with amazing sounding samples, oscillators and filter plus huge possibilities in sound design (without annoying menu diving) the Prophet X might be your synth. And the price has already dropped a little (at least here in Europe). Give it a try at your local music store. That's what convinced me in the end.

@@tomfabinski I'm running my X with the latest OS available. Yet all the patches you hear in this video work with the regular 8 voice mode. It's a great sounding instrument and the possibilities for sound design are vast.
@tomfabinski5 жыл бұрын
@@calutron8288 I think you have nailed the difference between the Quantum and the X - both are excellent for sound design but for actually playing without menu diving... it’s the X.
@danielplainview25845 жыл бұрын
@@tomfabinski The addition of samples with the Prophet X is a step forward too, because a lot of acoustic instruments have very specific ADSR qualities that are hard to replicate with synths themselves sometimes.
