ProPride 3P Hitch 1 Year Review - 2021 F 150 Powerboost

In this video, I will review our first camping season with the ProPride 3P Hitch. We have used it on both our 2018 Chevy Silverado and our 2021 Ford F-150 Powerboost Hybrid with the Max Towing Package.

I just installed mine yesterday. At first I thought your yoke was upside down because the Propride sticker is. I had to make sure mine was right, but they both are. Thanks for the video. Glad you are still happy after a year with it!

A real education. I didn't even know about this kind of hitch until recently when I saw a commercial on KZbin. You have a very good camera presence and delivery. Some guys are so patronizing. I just found your channel a week or so ago & love your vids! My wife & I just purchase a slightly-used 2022 F150 Powerboost in the fall, and are planning to pickup our 2023 Grand Design Imagine 2500RL travel trailer in a couple of weeks. The dealer agreed to install the ProPride 3P hitch we purchased, even though they don’t carry it (or ever heard of it for some reason). We’re in southern Dutchess County NY, and so glad we found a fellow NY Powerboost RVer! Wondering if you still have the same setup from the vids I’ve seen, which all seem to be about a year or more older?

I am buying a 2 year old AS 20 footer and will be towing it with my 1968 Full Size Mercury. The AS has this hitch system. It will be interesting to see how it works for me!

From what I understand, trailers are often stolen just using the chains anyway, so don’t think there is a built in deterrent, they can still get it. A gps tracker ( not an apple tag!) is your best insurance for that.

which pro pride did you get, I just order my new truck and will be towing a 5000 lb. also what is the added weight to the Pro pride?

Hi Luis, I got the 3P-1400. Typically you can take your GVWR of the RV, multiply it by .1 to get 10% of the weight, this is your tongue weight. Then look at the image found here: www.propridehitch.com/propride-3p-trailer-sway-control-hitch So for a 5000lb trailer, your tongue weight would be a little over 500lbs. So I'd round up to the next size, the 3P-800 or the 3P-1000 if you want to plan for the future. The only difference between the models is the weight distribution bars. When in doubt contact ProPride customer service, they have always been very responsive for me.

Was the older hitch you used an anti sway hitch?

Yes it was the type with the extra attachment that was like a brake that you tightened down. It didn't work that great for sway

Hi! Is this a max tow F150? i mistakenly got the tow technology package. But I I added all the connections, trailer brakes, etc... I'm using a Blue OX sway pro, same size and weight camper as you. And I HATE the towing experience. I can't go over 60mph without fear of swaying. I've tried adding extra weight to the front of the camper (filling the front tanks) and it helps a lot, but its still not perfect. Besides this Propride, did you try any of the cheaper WDH hitches? Also, I keep the camper on a public storage lot. Is there a way to secure the PropRide? I would hate to have a 3K hitch stolen!

Hi James. It is the Max Towing model. I haven't towed without the ProPride on this truck specifically but on my old Silverado I felt all over the road with just a little wind with one of the other basic WD Hitches. I have a lock on my ProPride hitch, but a persistent thief could still get it off.

@@michaelprue9024 I agree it is an expensive investment. It's made in the US, lifetime warranty first off. But for us, our RV is too big for our truck, hands down. This hitch has allowed us to tow the RV without concern. Piece of mind is what I paid for. It tows remarkably better. Ideally I would get a bigger truck, but for multiple reasons it's not an option for us right now. Hope this helps ☺️

I have a larger bumper pull toy hauler and my Propride catastrophically failed. I had called the owner and asked if it would handle my trailer and he said yes. Obviously it can’t. I asked for just a half refund and he refused. He wants me to spend hundreds shipping it back and then sending it back and using a hitch that I don’t trust. Or if I don’t trust it my only recourse is to sell it to someone else. Meanwhile I was stuck in an RV park, so I bought a Weighsafe so I could get on the road. Stay simple. These have too many moving parts. They also do weird things when backing up. The head jacks to one side or the other, so far that the weight distribution bar is underneath the tongue jack and you cannot even lower it without first pulling forward . I think backing the trailer up puts a huge load on the hitch, more so than towing it.

Hey two wheels, that is crazy I'd be upset as well! Backing up isn't an issue, even our driveway is on a hill and it backs up just fine picking a side to slide over to. I can lower my jack in any position, could just be a trailer difference. What was the weight of your trailer loaded?

@@notallwhowanderarelost2024 My trailer is around 13,000 pounds. Rated for 14,000. The hitch weight is 1,700 pounds, which is why I called the owner, because the spec say it’s rated for 14,000 trailer/1,400 tongue. My trailer is rated 14,000/1,700 tongue. He assured me that was not an issue. But the pivot arms actually bent and the yoke broke. I guess I should have went with my gut feeling that this trailer was too heavy, but he also should not have told me that it was OK. That is why I only asked for a half refund. I figured that was fair. I even asked if he would just settle for the $1300 that I had to spend on a WeighSafe hitch and he refused that even. So I got the WeighSafe that is rated for 20,000 pounds and 2200 pounds tongue weight. Other than the scale it is a straight forward hitch with no weird jacking sideways when I back up. As far as sway control the Propride might be a 10 and the Weighsafe is a nine. But going over expansion joints the WeighSafe does a lot less porpoising, and I think it does a much better job in weight distribution. Maybe for a smaller Trailer the Propride would be all right, but if you have a heavy toy hauler, I would stay far far away from it. I ended up with a $3500 paperweight.

Who knows if they are just using parts of another broken hitch to repair it. I do not feel comfortable with dumping my problem on someone else, and endangering them with a repaired hitch.

Thanks for sharing. Looking to buy one. May I ask, how is backing with the hitch? Does your F150 have the Pro backup system and if so will it work with this hitch?

Backing up isn't much different than normal. If backing up a hill it will choose one side to ride on, but it isn't an issue. I haven't tried the pro backup system yet, still need to mount it.

My hesitation about the Propride is the almost 200lb weight. I have a F150 PowerBoost Hybrid with max tow package, and my payload is only 1291lbs. Even with a weight distribution hitch i do not have much payload left for people, dog or extra stuff when pulling my 9500lb camper. So it is either an extra 100lbs in ProPride hitch, or my wife can go camping. Tough decision :)

Hi Don, I was worried about that too since most half ton trucks have a low payload rating like you mentioned. In the end I decided it was safer to be high in payload and have the ProPride than be light in payload and not have it. It tows radically better now, so for me it was worth it.

I would also add that once the hitch assembly is installed the 200lbs should not be directly added to your payload. The stinger will be added directly to your payload of your tow vehicle which is about 50lbs. To determine your tongue weight you will need to install the singer and place a scale under the 2” receiver insert.

@@chrisbrillon I am NOT an engineer, but I kinda feel like the complete pro ride system will add to the tongue weight... I "THINK" your saying some of the weight will be on the weight distribution side and not directly on the tongue, but I sorta not sure about that. Would love to know a firm answer.
