I've been with my Cambodian wife for ten years now, and our relationship is truly a match made in heaven. I never have to look over my shoulder; there’s no smoke and mirrors here. I couldn’t be happier with the way things have turned out. Coming from the countryside, she knows how to stretch a dollar, as being frugal is second nature to her. Her goal is to keep me smiling while saving money, which is a true blessing in disguise

10 years with my Khmer wife...beautiful, funny, warm, cheeky, overall the best woman I have ever met and I am so lucky to be with her. We are best friends and only apart when we are at work. Her family are lovely...and funny, warm, and cheeky!! The women that is. The guys are welcoming and treat me like a brother. And always up for a laugh and a good time. We have lived in NZ for years now (travelling back and forth) and my side of the family LOVES her, as do her colleagues because of her warmth, honesty, skill, and work ethic. And she's gorgeous. Our conversation now is where we want to live....just back from Cambodia and it is SO tempting.......

My wife lost half her family in the killing fields (including her father). The country tore itself apart so she never completed middle school. Her surviving mother married her up with her first cousin to get them both out of the country. From their hot-humid village they landed in a cold Connecticut winter and were assigned labor jobs. (Sincere Thank you to Catholic Services!) Within two-years they had an infant daughter and risked all on news of jobs in Las Vegas. They landed in the roughest part of town (Naked City) and set about building their dream. Within ten years, they acquired workable English language skills, a rental home, a nice suburban residence, and a son. Then her husband was stricken with cancer and died. . Since I have known her (10-years), I have never heard this woman complain about anything. Each morning she gets up early, says her prayers and sets about her day. When her head hits the pillow around midnight she says, "Thank you God for this happy place." Seven days a week she does that again, and again. . She is a daily reminder that life is all about Living in Gratitude, smiling and not letting adversity get the better of you. Living the Dream with my Cambodian Queen ❤

In a previous life l was a postie and was watching a 2 story house being built by the owner by himself. Concrete foundation, service, brick and terracota tiles. Over time l got talking with them. They were Cambodian and escaped during Phol Potts murderous regime. They had swum across a crocodile infested river 2 miles wide, swimming under barbed wire avoiding guards and had been very traumatised. The husband had been a registered nurse but due to the brutality could no longer face it in Australia. He went back to university and studied engineering. He had trouble getting a job so designed and stress engineered his own house that l saw him building. He did a fantastic job. All in all these are truly amzing people and so resilient. I enjoyed you video. I first visited Cambodia in 2014 and met a young woman who became my daughter. I returned to visit her in 2015 and 2016. In the US, I met a woman from Battambang in 2016. She and her husband had a Thai restaurant and yogurt shop. I used to go talk to her a lot. She told me that since I loved Cambodia so much I should get on an airplane to Cambodia and find a Cambodian wife. She said it was a fair deal because she would love and take care of me and I would provide her with a life she couldn't have otherwise and would build her a house. In 2017, I did just that. It took a couple of years but I found Chantha, my wife. She is everything you describe with the exception of submissive. She is a beautiful woman...and appropriately assertive. The daughter, I met in 2014 is now 29 and a powerful woman. Brilliant! She just graduated with her Master's degree in English from Thammasat University in Bangkok. Every day I am aware of what a lucky man I am.

Yes, arranged marriage has been a tradition in Cambodia for centuries and is still practiced today, both in Cambodia and by Cambodians abroad. Traditionally, parents would choose a spouse for their children and work out the arrangement with the other family. The children would know who they were marrying and the wedding date when everything was finalized. Nowadays, that tradition has loosened up a little bit as Cambodia is more westernized. And it doesn’t mean foreigners can’t find a good wife in Cambodia. Cambodian people are very friendly. In fact, Cambodia was named as the friendliest country on the planet for many years in the row.

I’ve heard that in Vietnam dating, you must get approval from the family. And also, English is not well spoken by older generations. In Thailand it’s family centered, of course, but you deal directly with her. In general, how are relationships governed there and how is the language barrier?
@AutumninAsia26 күн бұрын
Never been to Vietnam so .... Relationships in SE Asia in general would be that you would always be #2. The family will always come first. Like the old saying, "Blood is thicker than water" is very true. If you can't accept that then stay single or stay home. Personally, I did not have to deal with my girlfriend's family, it was she who made up her own mind. That may be the exception to the rule. If you are wanting to date a young, never before married, you are most likely to have to deal with the family. The language barrier depends on where you are. If it is a small town away from a big city, English will be sometimes almost nill. In the big cities near tourist spots, many people will speak English. I hope that helps and have a great day !!!

Just about anywhere in Siem Reap is safe. I would suggest going with IPS for apartment hunting. They will ask you all about your needs and concerns. I think they are a great business, used them 3 times. ips-cambodia.com/ Thank you, I hope that helps !!!

Thank you Kelly. Very interesting as always. Out of interest, what is the general attitude of the men like there? Especially towards Western women. I have been in some Asian coutries where I have been treated as if I was a hooker and a walking bank account. That's with me dressing respectfully and without these men knowing a single thing about me! I am sure that's not the case there but would be interested to know. Perhaps you have a Western female (single) friend you could interview on what she thinks. I'm by no means after a relationship when I get there. Just interested in their attitude towards us. Many thanks and take care of yourselves.

As in many SE Asian countries, there are many retired men who are here for the girls-not all, of course. They tend to hang out in the more seedier parts of town. But I'm sure you know that. Besides that, the men here who are not that way are just like men in most places in the world. I do like the idea of interviewing a Western woman on that topic. It got me thinking. Maybe soon I could do a video like that. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching my videos !!!!

Hello! Just found this video, liked it and subscribed to the channel. I have an ex wife from the Philippines, but I have never been to Cambodia. So many videos I found talk about bargirls, and that is totally uninteresting to me. May I ask a few things? Is Cambodian people easy to get along with, in case of an 50+ white guy visit by himself? Is there any parts of the country where people are extra nice/sweet? Is any part of the country extra poor? When I went to the Philippines I used some time to help homeless and poor people, I think it is nice if one can have a positive effect when visiting a poorer country.

I thought cambodia has a law about women getting married to foreign guys over the age of 50....but i also heard if the guy can prove he has a certain monthly income/bank account then exceptions can be made 🤷♂️🤔

@craigwhitham66806 ай бұрын
@@AutumninAsia thanks for the reply ☝️👍...I actually can understand that law because it seems they are just trying to make sure a guy can provide basic monthly needs of the cambodian woman(not much to ask🤷♂️)...I also heard a village wedding is more important to the families in cambodia 🇰🇭 than a legal document...like where they have monks,family,dancing,food ,etc etc...the woman's family would then view you as married(regardless of you not being legally married on paper)

@AutumninAsia5 ай бұрын
That's a very good question, James. Yes, there is trash collection but most cannot afford it. With the average monthly salary of a Khmer person (@$200mo.), there are other obligations such as feeding their family. The trash problem is basically a SE Asian issue. You may see it just about everywhere. Thanks for watching !!

Hi Kelly, I've been living - in PP Cambodia for nearly ten - months now. I find women here a bit - shy (ian), and the language barrier makes things harder also. I noticed the woman you are dating is quite younger than you are. I heard that Khmer woman do not like large - age differences in relationships. Also, the government does not condone younger women marrying older foreign men. A few women here will make eye - contact with me, or say hello, but most do not.
@AutumninAsia5 ай бұрын
Smile and say hello and they will usually smile back. I think the best way to meet a Khmer woman is to make a lot of Khmer friends, get invited to their festivities. As far as age differences, that may not be entirely true. Many Asian women like men about 15 years older than them. The reasons why is that an older man usually has sown his wild oats and is more established in work and society. That gives the woman stability in the relationship. For many years, especially in arranged marriages, this was traditional. Great questions!!! Thank you for your comment !!!

But is the culture "matriarchal"? My reasons for asking are based on my personal experiences with another oriental culture: Korea. Of which many of the attributes you're ascribing to Khmer women could also be ascribed to them. Or, the circumstances I faced had more to do with being a "h--ny" 20 y.o. G.I. in the 2nd Inf. Div., and all anyone in my family or my unit could explain to me was "don't bring one home".
