Tons of (non-boring) history, water everywhere, a couple lovely very small beaches, quiet, and away from the madding crowd. As a native and former resident of Hampton, that city is not as beautiful as one might think. As far as going swimming in the Cheaspeake Bay, I wouldn't do it. When the health department has to check the water every morning for fecal bacteria to determine rather or not the local beaches can be opened, that is not saying much about the health of the Cheaspeake Bay let alone the beauty of the cities that border the Cheaspeake.

Hampton Resident here. Have to call you out on this one. Langley, VA. and Langley Air Force Base in Hampton is not the same place. Langley is an unincorporated community in the census-designated place of McLean in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Langley is often used as a metonym for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as it is home to its headquarters, the George Bush Center for Intelligence. The land which makes up Langley today once belonged to Thomas Lee, former Crown Governor of the Colony of Virginia from 1749 to 1750. Lee’s land was named Langley in honor of Langley Hall, which was part of the Lee home estate in Shropshire, England.[2] In 1839, 700 acres (283 ha) of land was purchased by Benjamin Mackall from the Lee family, while keeping the name.[citation needed] Meanwhile Langley Field was named after Samuel Pierpont Langley, an aerodynamic pioneer and a former Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Langley began aerodynamic experiments in 1887 and formed a basis for practical pioneer aviation. He built and saw the first steam model airplane in 1896 and the first gasoline model in 1903. Both planes were believed to be capable of flight. He also built the first man-carrying gasoline airplane in 1903, which failed to fly on its first attempt and broke apart and crashed on its second. It was, after major modification eleven years later, flown "successfully" by Glenn Curtiss for a little over 3 seconds, traveling 150 feet through the air in 1914.[6] Langley Field was the first Air Service base built especially for air power, is the oldest continually active air force base in the world, and is the oldest airfield in Virginia. Source Wikipedia. BTW another 'Pro' is that Hampton doesn't flood out as much as the southside when it comes to rainstorms because the city wasn't built on a dry river bed.

I absolutely think so - I think this could be a sneaky good spot for some value/speculative appreciation. Many people don't pick Hampton because they're commuting across the tunnel and many don't want to deal with the hassle. I'm really hoping the tunnel expansion changes this and if it does I could definitely see a rise in prices as people take advantage of the price difference.

My job is less than 20 miles away takes me on average an hour and a half to get home every day and can take up to 2 1/2 hours in either direction. I still live on the side of the water because it is far cheaper what would cost 220,000 here is easily 350,000 or higher Norfolk. There is no nightlife here at least not any that you would actually want to be a part of crime has gotten out of control. I"m getting stationed there this season. Can you tell me anything specifically about the Little England neighbor hood. I've tried searching but information is somewhat scarse at best.
@samsansalone4 жыл бұрын
Great question! As far as a real estate neighborhood categorization, it spans over from the east side of the water (near a place called Cedar Point) and then all the way west towards West Pembroke Ave. Generally speaking the area is quieter the farther east and south you go. Streets between Pembroke and Victoria Ave are the busiest and if possible I'd look at as close to the water as possible, though the drawback of getting too close to the water is flood insurance, if you're buying. Are you trying to buy in there? There are also some new construction in there and isn't too expensive, though you get what you pay for. The lower the price of a new construction house typically the more you're sacrificing in neighborhood and overall location quality, generally speaking.

Watching your video of Hampton, having been a 20 year resident from the age of about 6 months, a graduate of Hampton High School - Class of '75 - until I married an Airman from Langley the following year at Newport News Park, and had been living "a hop, skip and a jump" from where I had been living in the Cherry Acres area at the time. I was good with everything you said, until your commentary on Langley Air Force Base, repeated an oft mistaken MYTH about Langley A.F.B. - the CIA is NOT headquartered on Langley A.F.B. - it is located in LANGLEY, Virginia, which is much much closer to Washington, D.C. Other than that, everything else sounds good. Unfortunately, I have been located in Indiana since a year after my husband and 💑 I got married, when he got discharged from the Air Force, and took me with him (of course)to his home state, to live near his own family. Talk about CULTURE SHOCK!! 😲 Try relocating yourself from the ocean breezes and Chesapeake Bay culture to the middle of landlocked farm country!😨🚜 And just in time for the Blizzard of '78? (Look it up.) But, it's been home now for over 40 years, and I'm not too sure that I could really adjust myself back to the Hampton Roads area on a permanent basis?🙅 But, home is where your heart is, and I left a pretty good sized chunk of mine right there! And yes, Hampton High School has an amazing history of sports. Just check out the history of their football coach!! Mike Smith has been their coach since LBJ was President!! And, he's STILL THERE! And they also having an enviable record as a team. He was coach when I was there, and I was just sure he would have been retired in 10 years, but oh, silly me! He lives on!

First of all, I had to eat crow about that Langley statement, hahaha. Thanks for the comment about it! Thank you so much for the thoughtful and detailed feedback and stories about you! Mentioning Mike Smith was another nice add that I didn't put in this video. But yes, culture shock from here to Indiana sounds quite extreme! The Blizzard of '78 sounded wild! "The Snow That Wouldn't Stop"! You'll never see that here, ha!

@@samsansalone - Sorry, Sam. Pass the salt and a little of that "crow" over my way. My bad - I missed your correction in print on your error on Langley A.F.B. being the HQ for the C.I..A.! Mea culpa! Another pro about living on the water is the softness of said water! Compared to my current, and long term home in the "Midwaste," the water here requires a hammer and chisel (or a very heavy duty water softener) just to get a shower or do the dishes! Heaven help the laundry! The iron level in the water up here makes it possible to get your own "fake tan" just by standing in the water spray! For real, without having a water softener, your plumbing fixtures are all the same color, no matter what color they start out when purchased - a dark brownish orange!😣 Something about the geographic location has enough iron in the water that you don't need iron supplements in your diet! It's really distressing. But, like I said before, it's become home. I miss my eastern home though, but the problem is, I miss my home there as it WAS, not as it is now. I think it's really true, that you just can't go home again.
