We'd like to have Jamaican food here too as well as many other types of food. Honestly the more people that move here or to outside of Lexington the more things will progress hopefully. The biggest thing is lots of people in Ky want change and as the older generation fades out the more I think there's a chance for growth.

I can relate. Moved from Boston to Lexington in 1988. Still here! At least in Lexington, people don't pull left in front of you at a light like New England, they do what their supposed to, wait for the traffic to pass. Lexington is the 60th largest city in the US. And, Oklahoma is also on that long list of "Poorest States". Diversity is coming along, thankfully. Shopping is almost Nirvana, so much variety. No place can compare to NYC.

Why would they pull left? What are they trying to do? Sorry I’m confused lol. I know people turn right on red but what do you mean about left?

Thank you for making this video. I'm actually in Connecticut myself but for several reasons I am looking to go farther south (not ALL the way south, though, I want to be somewhere where there are still seasons). I eventually want to be in Tennessee, but I may have to sort of work my way down there and it seems like Kentucky might be a place to set up residence for a while until I can make things work in Tennessee. The information given here really helps. I'm not from Bridgeport but I'm in Hartford county.

I’m from Lexington Kentucky and honestly what you said is correct. There are very little amount of jobs and they honestly don’t pay much. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old and left due to lack of jobs and pay. Although now in Nashville I do miss the cost of rent in Lexington however for a single mom on the income and not able to get assistance because you don’t have enough children or you make too much before taxes so you can’t qualify for government assistance. Life in Lexington is hard if your from there. It’s honestly a retirement town.
@Rachel-ow6ij2 жыл бұрын
I’m also from Lexington and it interests me where you say there are little jobs. My partner got a job 2 months out of college and my friends never go more than a couple of weeks without a job if they’re quitting theirs. I do think they could pay more for sure. I do think Lexington is great for retirement, but I’m in my 20s and find it to have a very good quality of life. But that goes to show you that everyone’s needs and perspectives are different!

I have a lot of family in Bridgeport, CT (Geyer/ Mendes family) I grew up in Lex. I lived in the Bell Court area, behind masterson station, on maxwell and Tates creek area. I really enjoyed living on Maxwell in my 20’s. I say it’s what you make of it...there’s much more to do there now. I loved attending Lexington Healing Arts Academy, the downtown nightlife... However, I don’t think I would want to live there again. I do prefer it over Louisville though.

Also, guys what about the University of Kentucky? I have heard good and bad things about the college. In regarding jobs Kentucky is good ole boy country. My grandfather was raised there. He hated Kentucky. When you are an east coaster you should always go to the college and apply for work. The college is more diverse usually. You really have to be a born and bred southerner and be into the in crowd the money to get ahead there.

As someone who was born and raised in Lexington, KY, I have to say that I disagree. Me and my partner don’t like any of those things. As a person (and as a part of a couple) in their 20s, I think Lexington is incredibly affordable, has plenty of jobs, educational opportunities, good schools, generally incredibly friendly people, great amenities, beautiful scenery, and many of the benefits and amenities of a bigger city with all the best parts of living in a smaller city. We are college graduates and my partner was employed in a logistics firm a couple of months straight out of college. I am heading toward the medical field, which is very fruitful here. The only things I agree with are the lack of ethnic diversity and wishing there were more things like aquariums and zoos. Lexington in my lifetime has continued to become more and more diverse and I really hope that trend keeps steady. I also think as we continue to grow, we do have the space for more family activities and I would love our own aquarium and/or zoo!
