What is good about life in Norway?
1️⃣ PROS: Nature in Norway - Lots of fresh air and countryside around
Norwegian nature: Norway is so green and fresh and accessible for both hiking in summer in Norway and winter sports in winter in Norway.
Norwegian fjords are unique and there is always something new to explore in Norway. Even if you live in the city in Norway, like Oslo or Bergen or Stavanger - nature in Norway is always within touching distance.
2️⃣ PROS: The standard of living in Norway is unbeatable
The quality of life offered to Norwegian citizens and residents of Norway is impressive by nearly every measure.
In 2019, the annual World Happiness Report ranked Norway at a solid number 3, bringing home high marks in categories like income, freedom, trust in government, social support, generosity, and more in Norway.
Life expectancy for people living in Norway is a whopping 81 years.
3️⃣ PROS: Is Norway a Safe Country?
Norway is one of the safest countries in the world.
In 2018 Norwegian nation of over 5 million only saw 25 murders total.
Norway is safe and great to travel and live.

Norwegian workplaces also support equality between the genders. As parents in Norway you get one year of parental leave to split between you, ten extra sick days every year in case your child is ill.

One of the biggest surprises for people emigrating to Norway is that the pay here is much higher than in most other countries in Europe.
Norway enjoys one of the lowest differentials between worker and boss pay, and there is a cultural leveling in the workplace which values the opinions of everyone, not just the executives on the top floor.

The 2020 World Happiness Report, released on March 20, 2020, ranks 156 countries based on an average of three years of surveys between 2017 and 2019. The 2020 report especially focuses on the environment - social, urban, and natural, and includes links between happiness and sustainable development.
What is BAD about life in Norway?
1️⃣ CONS: High Cost of Living in Norway
One of the biggest downsides of living in Norway, especially for new arrivals. The price of groceries is much higher in Norway than virtually every other country. Eating out is not something you do in Norway more than once per week.
Also the grocery shopping in Norway is 30% more expensive compare to England.
2️⃣ CONS - Speed limits in Norway
The National speed limit in Norway is 80km per hour - in England national speed limit on the motorway is 70 miles which is about 112km per hour.
To ensure Norwegian drivers stick to these limits, speeding fines are based on a percentage of your income.

3️⃣ YOU CAN’T GO TO THE BEACH IN NORWAY WEARING FLIP FLOPS AND SHORTS

People in Norway spend their time outdoor all year around - summer means hiking , winter means skiing, or cross country skiing, or at least snowboarding.
Norwegians love winter sports and outdoor activities.
4️⃣ CONS: Alcohol in Norway
Alcohol in Norway you can buy in only 1 shop which is called Vinmonopolet.

This is possibly my biggest frustration about living in Norway. The post in Norway is incredibly slow.

I'm a British guy who moved to Norway last year. I agree with all your points. My neighbour leaves his garage open when he goes out, full of tools and equipment. The safety and level of trust people have in each other here is incredible. As for swimming in the sea, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm in northern Norway, and recently took a quick swim in the sea on a beach on the beautiful Senja island. It wasn't exactly warm, but not uncomfortably cold either.

Senja was a very large island with just a handful of fisherman's settlements on the sea-facing side when I lived in Finnsnes for a month, back in '99 but beautiful nonetheless. There was a great pub, called Otto's I think, in town. Is it still there I wonder?

She quit after 3 months because they don’t let the warehouse workers go to the bathroom except on their 30 minute meal break. Labor law says they must on their 10 minute breaks, but the only bathrooms are by the front door on the other side of the metal detector security checkpoint and it takes 5 minutes just to get there from inside the warehouse area. She said she couldn’t take watching adults having to toilet themselves on the job anymore. So while it may be convenient for customers, they’re funding employee abuse at the warehouses. My new sister in law was working as online order processor at the Whole Foods store when she first moved here last year. She’s gotten the same position at Walmart now and is just raving about how respectful Walmart is to their employees, compared to Amazon. WALMART. 😕😳

I think one of the main issues with things like Uber and Amazon in Norway is to fit into our welfare models. To have the high level of welfare we depend on all businesses contributing to this. So not all international companies are allowed access if they don't take part in paying a certain amount of taxes. Many countries in Europe have problems with their welfare models if American companies replace our own companies, and don't pay taxes. In the US, Amazon is used to being able to negotiate tax breaks that leaves them paying no taxes at all, and with the income level in Norway it may be hard for Amazon to have any warehouse here at all, but I assume that if they planned to come here, they would want to have their warehouse in another country, like Poland, and ship from there to Norway. This question ties into the welfare state and the low crime rate. The model we want to have here ensure help to anybody who needs it, so it is quite hard for any norwegian to justify economic crime, because you can't justify it to yourself as a means for survival. It is then very hard to find much of a network for crime, but of course, there are a few, and some with ties to operation centrals in other countries. It is actually cheaper for a country to provide basics for everybody than to use resources on investigating crimes. So if you want to do business in Norway you have to accept being responsible for society as a whole, and take part in funding our welfare. Otherwise we do much better buying from our own companies, that are integrated with those values. Lke one successful norwegian business leader put it: "taxes are the price of civilization". I am not sure if all norwegians would agree with me with all I am saying here, but I think it is a fairly common norwegian attitude to business. Even our current government, that is quite right wing, state that one of the main task of business is to fund welfare through taxes. Also I know one of the biggest business banks in Norway, DNB, every year send out documents to their corporate customers every year, telling them how much they contributed to the welfare, and giving them examples like "you paid for so many teachers", "you paid for so many doctors", "so many surgeries", "so much roads", etc. They want every company to feel proud about what they contribute and get an idea of how helpful they are by giving examples. Before you take everything I say as true, you should maybe ask more norwegians if what I am saying here is a typical way for norwegians to think about business. I hope Amazon doesn't come to Norway as it will ruin a lot of businesses and the way people consume and do shopping. It will hurt local businesses just as you mentioned. How can Norwegian government allow this to take part? Unless Amazon pays a lot taxes that it deserves to pay. That will increase the price of goods but also make Amazon less attractive thus saving local businesses. I hope the government will choose wisely and think about it's loyal local contributors.

Well, it's not only the US companies, unfortunately. Ikea for example dodges taxes wherever the company can. Nominal they should pay 40% taxes on their income in Germany (their biggest market), but due to a lot of tricks, it is estimated, that they only pay 5%.

I'm Norwegian and live in the town of Stavanger. If you want to go wind surfing, or even wave surfing, then the large, beautiful beaches south of Stavanger (area is called Jæren, and the beaches Jærstrendene) are perfect for you. Even the crown prince of Norway does his wave surfing there. But yes, bring your wetsuit. Very rarely the water temperature is warm enough so that you can surf in ordinary swimwear.

Thank you for showcasing Norwegian life, it warms my heart to know that life in the this lush country is so well preserved. I have a chance this summer to visit the Western Fjord region and this video just made me smile. Coming from the United States I am in for a treat. I really wish my dad could join me, but for his health it will be up to me bring to capture and bring home some amazing memories and pictures that only our native land Norway can provide. You're so endearing! Visited Norway once years ago. We got last minute cheap airline tickets from Portland, Oregon in the US to Oslo (via Minneapolis). It was very expensive. We stayed at a YMCA, but had the room to ourselves because it was off season - October. After a few days, we took a train ride to Bergen. I love videos that talk about history and culture. It is when you have to go to seven stores or make seven different orders to accomplish the same bit of shopping. That said, Sweden has Amazon and it is going BADLY. But that mostly due to the postal system. So we order from German Amazon. Just like the Norwegians do.

I live in Daytona Beach Florida and we are famous for our "Bike Week." It's a motorcycle event and I have been lucky enough to meet some Norwegian Bikers. You Know Anna, come to Søgne, a small little city outside Kristiansand, I never regret moving here from Bergen. Been living in Bergen since the 70tees, but moved down south a few years ago, beautiful nature here, we got a beach as well, lovely people and all is super :)

As a truck driver I wouldn't agree that Norway had or has had world's safest roads, especially tunnels. A good example is the E6 which is the main road(where tooths are falling off when you hit a hole). I would say that is one of the most dangerous ones, especially in winter. Except if you travel Oslo-Kristiansand or Oslo-Goteborg or near by Oslo. Agree about the nature and wildlife, simply beautiful.

I always feel bad for truck drivers in my area. Some of the tunnels are so narrow that if two of them meet, they pretty much have to stop and sneak past each other. It's crazy that the main road we rely on for food and other goods is in such bad shape some places (at least up north where I live). But the new roads are great! We just don't have a lot of them in my area.

In recent years the post office have downsized quite a bit as a result of the Internet. Now there is no mail deliveries on Saturdays, and there are only 2-3 deliveries each week to most houses. Other than that the mail is reasonably fast. You can of course buy online from Amazon in UK (or US or Germany), but recently Amazon Sweden has also arrived. In addition there are multiple Norwegian alternatives, depending on what you are looking for.

Lol I think the low speed limit is a pro! I don't like going 100km/hr, I don't need to! The only reason I ever speed up that much is because I feel pressured by other drivers behind me on the highway, and I have horrible social anxiety. So I sacrifice my own comfort and safety, for the happiness of others 🙃. I think 80km/hr is plenty.

In terms of road safety and accident rates, I would imagine that having such a low population density (and thus uncrowded roads) helps? But, it would be interesting to see stats for just the Oslo/Drammen region where populations are greatest and compare those to other places.

I think one of the biggest cons for someone moving to Norway is learning the language. Yes, there are some professions where you may get by on English, but you will struggle to get a job with no Norwegian skills. Most Norwegians speak English, and some have smatterings of German or French/Spanish, but few have the vocabulary to explain their illness in English to their doctor, and would not like to see a doctor who couldn't understand Norwegian. The pro about Norwegian is that it's a pretty simple language to learn the rules of, but speaking it fluently can take some time. We also have a variety of dialects, and you'll gain lots of cred for trying to speak the local dialect.

Absolutely! I still tend to believe that if you want to move to another country permanently - you must learn local language! No matter that everyone speaks English, it’s the matter of respect to the society you are in 🙂 If one day I decide to move to Norway permanently gorgeous Norwegian language will be the first thing I’ll adopt ☺️

I live in NZ now and there is no any similarity between NZ and Norway except nature.NZ is expensive country with no life.People work 11-13 hours on day to make some money.Too boring for young people as well.Tax too high and for that tax you get nothing except to finance people on benefits.Too much criminal and definitely not safe country like they present to world.Too much depression and suicide.All you need to pay wherever you go,doctor,school all.Norway is 1000 years in front of NZ and for high tax you get something.I regret day when I left Europe and came here to NZ,so see you Norway in February :) And you Anna great work and channel :)
