Used or repurposed LiFePO4 or Lion NMC batteries are dirt cheap now... 3 KW for under $1,000 US. Solar panels are dirt cheap too. You can outfit a boat like this with enough panels where you can run indefinitely.

I love the concept but would point out some of the deficiencies in the execution. If the pontoons were tapered at the back they would act way more like a displacement hull, efficiency would jump way up. All that slurping sound from the water at the back of the pontoons is the energy being lost, it's like the water is pulling at the back of the pontoon. The best thing to do would be start from scratch on the pontoon design, picture fatter "Hobie" catamaran type hulls.

Wow pontoon boats at displacement speeds are really inefficient. My 18ft 2000lb monohull fiberglass launch gets me 5mph at 1kW with a 5kW inboard electric drive.

If they wanted to do it right, they need to install the canoe sterns on the pontoons just like the bow has. Displacement hulls need clean entry AND exit from the water.

no it's not, it's sailboat speed. If you were cruising a flatwater river anywhere in the south, this thing would be perfect for a relaxing, quiet nature-watching cruise. If the hulls of this lakeboat were even remotely efficient, I bet you could go 7 knots.

Many of the no-gas or electric only lakes are enforcing these requirements to limit boat speed.
