That video just condensed the knowledge needed for hook size and weight selection for plastic lures, hook sizes, depths and structure. Now I can make the right selections with confidence. Thank you very much!

You guys are awesome! I have such a problem with snags on rocks and oysters. It’s very frustrating.

Yes, the weedless setups are so much more fun to use when targeting areas with hard structure on the bottom.

(FYI) Something I have learned while fishing freshwater over the last couple of years with your style of weedless football jigs I have found it best to have a o-ring between the weight and the hook. This will help provide almost a full rotation so the fish can't pin the weight against the hook which only allows from a 0 - 25 degree turn compared to a 75-85 radius turn while using the O-ring. This trick will help a great deal when fighting fish. Just a thought..... works well with my Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass and Striped Bass! Have not been able to use technique on the coast due to personal issues, however I'm sure it would work all the same. Tight Lines and Screaming Drags Everyone!!!!!

So I live in bokeelia and fish the island and all areas around. I 100% run owner tier lock hooks. I prefer to stay 1/16-1/8 as I run 10lb braid on a ballistic 2500. But point I meant was I use weight hook in up to 10’ water depth (high end) with amazing results. Using slam shady 2.0 of course. I do run 1/4 oz with bombers too. But I think the 1/16 gives me flexibility to fish various depths in same areas. Just my take and I’ve been extremely successful

Just think how many more fish you'd be catching in the winter months if you were able to get the lure down to the bottom quicker since most of the strikes take place on the bottom:) I lived in Bokeelia for a summer a few years back, and it sure is a fun fishery!

@@Saltstrong no I 100% agree I do have correct gear for the cold spells. I’m sorry I meant during normal hot to warmer times when fish near me at least like the mid range a lot more I find

Great presentation Luke! After 3 years of not even getting a bite using lures, it has to be me doing something wrong. I fish around the Mayport area and the jetties and get skunked with lures 100% of the time. Are depths of 20-40 feet too deep for the lures and jigs in this video?
@Saltstrong Жыл бұрын
Not at all.... I typically use 3/4 oz weedless football jigs when fishing areas like that with 20 to 40 ft of water and rocks along the bottom... bounce a power prawn usa rigged on that weedless football jighead, and I'll be shocked if nothing hits it.

I caught a largemouth on a Slam Shady 2.0 on a trout eye jighead.

Now I've gotta toss all those Owner twistlocks and Z-Man trout, redfish, and texas eye jig heads, and buy a bunch of hoss gear - thanks a LOT salt strong! :D Kidding of course, I still like my z-man jigheads but I might replace with footballs as I deplete them. I'll have to use a paint pen to mimic the Salt Strong color code for weight though since these don't have colored eyes. Unless you can convince Hoss do go ahead and do that at the factory ;)

I will be buying some for painting to add to my arsenal of baits especially the Football Jig heads and the Weedless Football Hooks. Thanks for another great video!! Food for thought how about an Ned Shrimp @ 2" to 2.5" long to imitate Grass Shrimp. What do ya'll think?
