Well we just bought a house here in August we came from Long Island New York to North Carolina for four years and decided to buy a house in South Carolina and North Charleston. Me personally I like living in farmland my wife likes living around a city so hit a bump in the road. I really wanted to be in the mountains country living I like seeing animals and like doing outdoor things such as fishing kayaking maybe hiking trail bikes etc. and hunting. It’s just me my wife and my daughter my son just passed eight months ago he was 23 years old it’s been very hard on us. But yes I always wanted to live in a smaller log cabin house say three bedroom 2 1/2 baths towards the mountains may be lakefront that’s my dream house. I’m 56 my wife is 51 we’re both retired my daughter is off to college until she starts her life we can’t make a move from North Charleston/Summerville, until she starts her adult life.Well that’s about it you have a super fine day and enjoy South Carolina. I lived in Charleston temporarily for work and I loved it! Coming from Seattle (this was before the city lost its mind with CHAZ), I fell in love with the history, the buildings, the food (Bear E Cafe is where I had my first shrimp & grits), loved the wonderful people and Southern manners. And I had a part time job at the Aquarium gift shop which I enjoyed a lot. Hi Anya and Marci! What I learned was to not live in West Ashley if you don't have a car. I got spoiled by King County Metro which ran almost around the clock. I spent waaaaay too much on Uber. Good sir, I do plan to move back to Charleston by Spring 2021. Id love to talk to you about first time homeowner programs if you know of any. Heaven knows, I can't afford anything in the PWN.

There are pros and cons about every city i think. Is it true that the reason the houses were built skinny but long was that they were taxed on how wide the home was so they built it long instead of wide to bypass the heavy taxes?
@TheBillOlson4 жыл бұрын
Actually that's a common myth heard around here. It's actually because the lots were skinny and placing the house sideways made the best use of space. It also allowed the home to take full advantage of the prevailing southerly breezes, necessary in the hot summer climate.

Charleston is an awesome city. To me it feels a lot like St. Louis. I personally moved from Southern IL to Myrtle Beach because it’s more beach focused and traffic isn’t crazy. It’s more of a spread out city. That said, it isn’t as cultural nor artistic as Charleston. But we have a lot of influence from northerners, every other person you meet is a transplant from NY, NJ, or Ohio. Anywhere you decide on SC is an awesome place to live. Charleston is for people more used to big city life. Myrtle is for people more used to small city life with the occasional influx of tourists...Not nearly as classy but very laid back and you get a break from everyone in the winter season.
@eastcoastcoder4 жыл бұрын
As the state reopens I highly recommend you take a week or so to visit both cities again. You can make it from Myrtle to Charleston in about two hours. Though live in Myrtle, I visit Charleston frequently like it’s a second home. It all boils down to your own personal preferences. :-)

Hey Sarah! When you know you just know. And sometimes taking a leap of faith is the best way to do it! There really isn’t a bad time to visit. It’s super expensive, the pay is not so great people are not as nice as I expected being the heart of the south , a lot of crime and homeless and drug addiction it’s a great city if you can afford to be downtown or in the country or on the water
@ji-ji46324 жыл бұрын
So I’ve been here almost a year now and I quickly learned that looks are deceiving. My apartment was ok until I came home to a big ass dead roach belly up on my counter. Where it was just didn’t make sense unless it fell from the cabinet. I fogged my apt. and they were coming out the woodwork!! It was to the point where I was sleeping with lights on and barricaded myself in my bedroom. Apt manager took me for a joke so I forced them to tear up my lease. I now rent a room in a decent location but I swear I’m near a fireworks facility or something because I constantly hear them. As far as this city being expensive... I’m from California so I’m groomed to not flinch at dollar signs, BUT I at least expect a certain quality for what I’m paying and that is where the ball is dropped. I paid less and got way more living in downtown St. Louis and they don’t offer employer discounts here either. I mention that because I’m federal and I’ve always had a preferred employer discount wherever I lived. There isn’t much to do here, the water smells atrocious unless it rains, there are snakes and gators, and it just simply isn’t worth it. I’ve driven up to North Carolina a few times and honestly I’d rather live there and commute. If you are just itching to move to the south, try Florida or Alabama or just save yourself the headache and move to Texas. Even the fast food quality is crap here, aside from a few gems, they really DONT CARE, I’m surprised I haven’t gotten food poisoning.

I understand how you feel, but if cities don't get new blood, they die. Plus, people like to go to places they perceive to be a better fit for their values. One of the things that make Charleston appealing to me is the appreciation of manners, history, and family values, as well as how my political and religious views are more accepted there. In other words, while you may encounter newcomers who you'll want to send packing, others may be just the kind of folks you want moving in.
