I want to encourage everyone who watches this video. I 100% would pay someone to do real bouquets for me if I could afford it, but we found a great local florist with the best prices and still couldn’t afford the total. I sourced all of my silk flowers from Michael’s during their 60% off Fall clearance and I used coupons too! I went in two separate shopping trips because I wanted to practice with the first batch to make sure I could do it. I really surprised myself and I love my bridal bouquet and the mock-up I did of a bridesmaid bouquet as well. I have 7 bridesmaids and they will all have bohemian style loose bouquets with red and white florals, plenty of eucalyptus, and I got a couple of different cascading stems as well (it is a Christmas wedding). I also ordered some of my stems from Afloral-they don’t only have bouquets, they have beautiful varieties by the stem, and incredible deals if you watch their sales. I got several hanging amaranthus stems from them, as well as some dried preserved princess pine to add a unique accessory to the bouquets, and I will be using the pine for boutonnieres too. I spent just over $300 and will be able to make everything and have it done prior to the day. No delivery, no researching florists, no feeling bad about going over my budget. I am still having the decorator do real pine and cranberry on our tables, with a mix of clear and metallic votive candles and she is also doing pillar candles down the aisle for me and pre-lit Christmas trees inside the barn. Skipping the bouquets and boutonnieres saved me $1200 though and I wouldn’t change my decision. I am a very particular person, and very creative too, so I can be very “selective” about quality. But I am not disappointed in my silk flowers at all!

Excellent video! As a florist, I totally agree. Just a suggestion for brides: if a guest can touch them (low table centerpiece), I'd suggest real. If they are very tall (tall, candelabra) or on an outdoor arch in extreme heat, you can go with silk if you really want to. Although, like Jamie, I'm partial to real florals 💐

I was always against fake flowers for a wedding, but then I was a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding, and she used fake, and they looked great, more importantly I have them in a vase in my dining room, and they always make me happy to see. It’s got me questioning if I would like to have mine around for years to come as well.

I second the request for a video about planning an elopement or very intimate wedding. Like, when is it worth it to hire vendors in that situation? What sort of services can you provide for a very small wedding (like coordinating with vendors, or even meeting with them)? Or is eloping almost always a DIY situation?

As I'm watching this video, I'm making my own felt flowers for my wedding bouquet. I love how I can make them from scratch myself and they will last me forever. Also, our wedding isn't until 2020, so if somewhere along the way I decide I don't like my felt flowers anymore, I can still get a regular bouquet. But it's thrilling to me to be able to slowly add flowers to my bouquet over the months, it adds a lot of intention to something that is usually just there to be pretty.

I have always thought I would just do silk because my mother and grandmother used to make and sell fake arrangements at craft shows. But now I have a bridesmaid who is a funeral home director and she highly recommends real, if not INSISTS. I’m feeling pressured to have real. But I’m broke🤷🏻♀️ I went to a florist and she is going to give me a quote and my mother and grandmother are going to give me a quote for the same arrangements and we will just have to see. I think it comes down to what is a priority to you. Silk flowers don’t bother me, and it’s my day🤷🏻♀️ I’d rather spend more time/effort/and possibly money on something I get to have forever. In 50 years when all we have are our rings and our photos, no one will remember if the flowers were real. And I doubt anyone will know the difference from a photo. That’s all that matters to me🖤

There’s another pro for silk flowers, which is that you can have colors that aren’t available in real flowers. For example, if you want blue flowers and are getting married in midwinter when there aren’t many of those growing, you could splash some silk ones around in your real floral arrangements to get the look you want. Or if you want something that doesn’t occur in nature, you can get it in fake flowers-for example, sky blue roses or something like that.

@SarahLarsonwgm6 жыл бұрын
I did fake for my wedding day. Most of the flowers we used were in our bouquets, and the centerpieces and other decor was mostly greenery. Most the pros you listed for silks were part on my list of reasons why, but for me there was another huge one: with silk flowers, especially doing them myself I knew exactly what I was getting. One wedding I helped decorate for the bride got her roses in and the color of pink clashed with the pink of the bridesmaid's dresses. Another wedding I was a photographer for ended up with silks after a hurricane messed up her flower shipment. They went to pick up the bouquets, and bouquets that weren't supposed to have any baby's breath suddenly were 80% baby's breath. I didn't want a freak out on my wedding day because the flowers I spent a ton of money on didn't look right with the wedding or were ugly in my opinion. Also, silk flowers are less expensive if you buy stems (and make sure they are on sale) than if you buy arrangements.
@zoephillips54956 жыл бұрын
Kind of a tangent from the topic of silk flowers, but I also went fake for budget and allergy reasons, and decided to make my own paper flowers. The main reason it works is because I was able to make them look highly stylized, which is why I feel like if you're going fake, it's better to accept the fake-ness, in a way, and enjoy it instead of trying to still pretend that they're real.

Hi Jamie- I LOVE your videos! I have been married for 4 years to my SAINT of a husband. LOL I also would have fresh flowers every week in my home if I could. Like you said the smell, the look and the feel of real flowers ROCKS!! But I knew that I wanted a certain flower and for them to be a certain color in my wedding bouquet & for all of the arrangements, so I had both silk AND real flowers. I was fortunate enough to know someone to bring my vision to life. And for those brides who are OCD (you know who you are) I knew that I had to trust her to create it. Every arrangement was amazing! And I loved knowing that I would have a better chance of preserving my bouquet by having both real & silk flowers. So BRIDAL HUMANS if you want to have a certain flower and they will not be in season - add a few silk to your arrangements and enjoy. And listen to Jamie - professionals know what they are doing, so no matter what you prefer, if you have a picture or some of the flowers you want them to use - you have to trust them. Communication is key! Sorry Jamie, I got everything scrambled together. I am also now an owner of an event venue and I have seen people struggle with setting up their events, and not just weddings. But now I suggest that the BRIDES watch a couple of your videos. I kind of have a library started, LOL. Vision, budget & communication, you make it A LOT easier for me to help them. 🤗Thank you!! Oh and when I get mad at my husband real flowers 💐 have that nice effect of petals flying everywhere. 😉

I recently made the decision to go to silk flowers, because the type of flowers I like aren't local to me, so getting them, in fall season no less, was becoming a challenge... a PRICEY challenge. And truthfully, I don't have a ton of good florists in my area. I'm particular about what I like, so choosing silk over real actually gave me some relief. I definitely love the "plenty of time" bit. We already had our colors/theme selected and haven't nailed down a venue YET (but fingers crossed, we are scoping out the one we want TOMORROW), and with the silk I can get stuff ahead of time, play around with it, and decide what I WANT vs. what I see in my head or on Pinterest! Never ever in a million years thought when I got married I'd do artificial flowers, but if you have good taste level, are savvy, you can cut cost and get EXACTLY what you want.

Our plan is to rent through Something Borrowed Blooms for all the florals that need to be put together intricately (bouquets, centrepieces) and buy real eucalyptus for the greenery table runners. Any greenery that will be hanging or out of the way we are going to try to rent silk as well. Plus some real accent flowers to give it all life! Fingers crossed it all comes together. What’s your opinion on just buying plants in pots and putting those around as centerpieces
@amandam.5096 жыл бұрын
We've got both planned: florist does silk flowers to reduce cost on non-essential parts, but bouquets, buttonieres, and corsages will all be real. The centerpieces will have one real pink rose floating in water, with a silk flower ball on top of the vase with draping crystals. Also having a big floral arch (silk) behind the sweetheart table with large silk arrangements on either side (transported from church ceremony). If we wanted a real sweetheart table floral arrangement, it would have been $25/foot or we can rent a 3 foot silk one for $40. Our florist will adapt/adjust the silk pieces to match our pink theme (actually, pink rose theme). I like that she works with brides and their budgets -- while flowers are important, they aren't the be-all and end-all of MY day, and silk is fine for most of my decor . . . just want a fluffy, flowing flower look overall... and to do that with 100% real flowers would cost more than 1/2 my wedding budget.

I have such a love of plants that I already have quite a few, solid, nice sized plants and I'm thinking about using the as table center pieces (dressing up the pots) and buying additional/borrowing friend's plants if needed. I feel like this could be a pretty cool money saver and quite a few plants can be propagated if you start early enough

Great video. Totally agree.... and real flowers are definitely cheaper! (If you know how to arrange them yourself) 😁

I always assumed I would do real flowers, but ended up purchasing all of my silk bouquets from a girl who was selling hers on a local wedding Facebook group. This ended up saving me hundreds of dollars (probably 1/7 of the cost of purchasing new), and the flowers still look amazing. Silk allows you to go the previously enjoyed route, which can save you big time!

I am using both real and fake flowers for my wedding. For my real flowers I’m going to get some potted roses ( modern blush white) to place by my arch. That way I can plant them in my garden to have for years to come.

Y'all I have allergies and our ceremony is already right off the river. We are only doing real flowers for the ceremony and not many of them. Thank goodness, we found a very understanding florist. I also wanted to keep my bouquet exactly the way it looks. I also like bright blue which isn't a natural.

We are doing neither, kinda. We have artificial trees for centerpieces which will be decorated with crystals and LED tealights (no real candles allowed at the venue) and a themed ornament to designate what table it is (ex - Le Petit Prince table will have a fox possibly wearing a red scarf definitely with a rose). Bouquets will be crystal snowflakes (cause December) with lots of sparkle - and the girls will get to keep them. Mine will also have dried lavender so real flowers but not fresh. We might have real evergreen wreaths on the church doors though, and we will have fresh flowers on the altar which will be donated to the church for the next morning's services.

I love your videos I hardcore stock them. I watch so many and honestly I don't know I that I chose one of your older ones to be my 1st comment but here goes. I'm not having flowers at my wedding other than the bouquet and boutonniere. I'm doing cactus theme so I will have cactuses that I will rent.

i’m doing fake flowers because I am already having nightmares about my bouquet not turning out the way I incision them! So being able to have those completed months in advance to be able to see with my decor and different swatches of fabric was really important to me! 🤗 love your videos

I will be doing faux flowers. One less thing to stress over. I can be a overbaring perfectionist. If I dont do it then it's wrong. Oh!!! You should do something for distressing throughout the planning process

We are doing a mix of paper flowers and real greenery for centerpieces. We're getting the real deal for bouquets so they will look nicer in all the photos.

I am actually doing a mix of both silk and real flowers for my wedding. Using silk for the centerpieces and wall hangings so I have enough time to DIY them. And then using real flowers for the bouquets and buttioners, because those items are more special to me.
