I had a bad itchy scalp...and after a few Prose tweeks to my formula...their chemists recommended I go fragrance free. I was actually impressed and felt like there were people in their company who did pay attention and cared. I went fragrance free and it was a GAME CHANGER. Sometimes when I travel, I'll test the hotel shampoos and conditioners when they look to be good quality and I instantly regret it the next day.

I appreciate that you broke down the financial differences between them pretty much right off the bat, because that's one of the biggest deciding factors for me finding new products on a limited budget. For the rest of the video, you did a great job discussing the pros and cons of each quite fairly, and also thank you for discussing the ingredients, scents, and textures of the two brand products! As someone who deals with irritation from both my skin sensitivities as well as my adhd, I really appreciate when reviewers can break that down before I ever have to deal with the frustration personally. Just wanted to mention I got Prose leave in conditioner and mine is a pump and thicker than yours. But I have wavy/curly hair, thick strands and a lot of hair. So it was cool to see that they really give you what your hair needs but just wanted to throw in that it's not all spray leave ins with Prose!

This was such an excellent, thorough comparison! I also tried and liked both brands but prose comes out on top for me too. I only wish somewhere in their detailed quiz I can say trying to grow hair long is a goal. Also what you said about the leave ins prose spray vs fob cream, I have curly hair and definitely prefer a cream leave in. Prose curl cream is amazing, one of my top 2 favorite curls creams period.

Typically with healthy hair and scalp you will see better hair growth but it can also be genetic trait causing slow growth. Another thing that can affect hair growth is diet- hormones balanced and hydrating foods, less fried or processed foods, and daily vitamins make a big difference in hair and skin health.

I’m currently using the FOB from Target and I love it. I selected the wavy range and added shine, curl def,strengthen and volume. I feel like I get better curls. So far I really like them but there probably is no point to ordering it online the Target line works fine and I love going to Target anyways. 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

I live in Alaska with well water. Just got our water tested. The place we had test it tested our water at 3 points. 1. The well; 2. The tap after our filter and softener; 3. R/O tap. We tested at 40 hard water from the well and 0 at the tap after the filter and softener!!!. I know you use those filters in your shower head and not sure how long they last. You may want to look into a a softener. We have the whirlpool one that self cleans and whirlpool filter that self cleans. The pricey ones not the lower $$ ones with carbon. We have heavy iron and sediment too. The softener with iron out salt removes almost all the iron which keeps my hair from turning orange. I still get some discoloration and the salt is a bit hard on my hair. I’ve switched to your not get hair wet routine on non-wash days and it’s helped. Just wanted to share with ya because you share so much awesome tips with us.

Get a water filter to put on your shower head. I live here in Colorado and found this to help big time. I bought mine on Amazon..easy to install

I was letting her and others know if the shower head filters don’t last long the whole house filter may be a good alternative or something to look into.

The one issue with the quiz with prose is you can't opt out of specific ingredients. For example, I need to avoid all additional oils in my hair, and FAB showed the ingredients associated with each hair goal so I could avoid the ones with oils. Prose gave me some oils as ingredients and I couldn't figure out which question was associated with which so I couldn't opt out. That was the ultimate deciding factor for me. Love your videos Abbey!!

I agree... I just took the Prose quiz and also discovered you can't opt out of specific ingredients. I suppose one could email them and request that, but why not make it easier for the consumer and give us the option? I didn't like their review section either... I couldn't click just to see "4 star reviews," or ones that mentioned "fragrance," for example. I had to start at the top (what they wanted me to see) and work my way down and it's too time consuming that way.

You can email Prose and ask them to remove ingredients for your products. It’s annoying, so I see why you are going with FOB, but if you are ever interested in trying Prose, that is an option. Personally, I wasn’t comfortable with the fact that EWG found carcinogens in FOB, so I’m going to try Prose and see if it is worth it. But I also wish it was easier to remove ingredients from Prose. I mean, what’s the point of custom haircare if you can’t customize it?

I've been using Prose for several months now, and it's made my hair fall out. I have nearly waist-long hair, and it used to be extremely thick and heavy. Now my hair is super brittle and much thinner than it used to be, and my hair is coming out by the handful. I went back to my old retail shampoo and I will never use Prose again. It's not worth the money and the damage it did to my hair. I just hope I can get the thickness back that it used to have, and that it stops falling out. I didn't even lose this much hair when I was frequently dying it in high school. The only plus side to losing so much hair is that it's lighter and curls easier. I've made multiple complaints to Prose, so we'll see if it goes anywhere

@@mack3937 my hair is curly, so I thought prose would be my best bet, but it basically ruined my hair personally. I stopped using it, and my hair stopped falling out. I answered all the questions correctly and even double checked them. I switched back to my regular shampoo, and I haven't had an issue with my hair falling out since I stopped using prose. I know it works for some people, but I've also seen posts from other people who've had the same problem I did

Great review. Personally I don’t think either is worth the time or money. I use Davines and Kerastase products. I also use L’Oréal Serie expert occasionally. I find they work great for me and are easily available locally, which I prefer.

Thank you so much! I used to use Function of Beauty, until the EWG review came in and discovered carcinogens in those products. They aren’t abundant and are probably fine to use in moderation, but I have intense anxiety over using products with carcinogens regardless of how prevalent they are. I’ve been wondering if Prose would be a good replacement since I prefer custom haircare (not bc it’s better, but bc it’s less stressful and exhausting to just take the quiz to figure out what to buy) and since Prose lists the EWG rating for every single ingredient they use so I know none of them are carcinogenic as far as we know. Now I know that it is a good replacement! Thank you!

i have 3b curly hair, and i havent been taking very good care of it for my whole life. i’m the only one in my family who has as thick of curls as i do, so i just use the shampoo and conditioner my mom buys for us all. she buys us the argan oil of morocco and i think it’s from target, and since it isn’t really for curly hair, it has seriously damaged my hair and scalp. i’m trying to get my hair better and back to it’s natural shine and volume, and i was recommended both fob and prose. this was such a helpful video

I feel the same way!!! Though I have to say that I've received two different scents from Prose and have loved both of them! Their customer service has also been great to me, I totally forgot to go in and update me owner before shipping my next subscription (I changed it up to dry shampoo one month and needed to change it back and didn't get the chance) and they were super responsive via email. I've tried both their signature and Corsica fragrances and both smelled great to me.

I think as long as the filters work, your water is officially OK. After 30 years of trying different things, you have to realize sometimes your hair changes based on biological age and your lifestyle. For example, I took supplements and meds that thinned out my hair. Products are not the final solution.

Wow - "burn your nose hairs off smell" -- never. That's so odd, I don't prefer added fragrance, but I do enjoy a non-offensive smelling formulation to use on wash days. . . I won't be dipping my toe into custom formulations; I've gone through such trial and error, over and over, for products that work -- to start graying in my 50s and having hair that behaves differently, so again, trial and error. I'm not a brand loyalist, but I have found products I'm pretty happy using.

I used FOB shampoo & conditioner 2x a week for 3 months. It is ~very~ ambiguous what the cause is, but I lost a LOT of hair ~two weeks after starting using it. I need to see my derm to get more information, but just a warning to ppl out there! It seems unlikely a shampoo & conditioner are causing hair loss, especially given FOB's ingredients...however, I've gotten my blood tested & iron & other health concerns are not the cause of hair loss. I doubt it's stress, just given the timing of everything in my life. Also this has been consistent hair loss...like non-stop clumps all day everyday. Anyway, to add mudiness to the puzzle, I stopped using FOB 2 weeks ago and am still shedding just as much. Who knows what caused the hair loss. Checking in w/ derm soon to see if I have an allergy (but again, no negative scalp or hair texture reactions apart from just hair LOSS). I'll update the comment, but just wanted to leave a little FYI for anyone thinking of starting it!

Kat M - you said that iron & 'other health issues' ckd out o.k.? I doubt that iron deficiency would result in hair loss, but thyroid issues can definitely result in hair loss. So, if by 'other' you meant your thyroid numbers were ck'd & are good, then your Dr. did a good job👍 A biotin deficiency can also result in hair loss, but you would have to TRY to get deficient in biotin, bc it 8s in so many foods. However, you could be deficient in biotin if, for some reason your body is not absorbing it. Did your doc look at your biotin levels? Also, you are probably aware that hair growth and loss are naturally cyclic. So, you may have been in a natural hair loss cycle and it just seemed like a lot. But, if that was the case, then at some point the loss should stop and regrowth begin. Anyhow, hope this helps, and that you can find an answer, so you can get it resolved. Good luck!

@@barbarafairbanks4578 yes exactly, my Dr checked iron, anemia, & thyroid stuff via bloodwork and everything came back normal. That's good to know about biotin! I get a decent bit in my diet & there's some in the Viviscal vitamins, but I'm unsure about absorption issues. Will have to check on that next time. & yes I could see it being a natural hair loss cycle too! So far (& my fingers are crossed) the loss hasn't been in any weird or super noticeable pattern. Maybe it's just my time. I've heard we can lose hair when it gets warmer outside too? I'll have to look into that. Thanks for much for your response! Definitely helps :-)

I absolutely love ur vibes and energy; friendly,nice,funny,and what's more,HONEST, u really did a breakdown of each key comparaison from the price to what's in it and if is it worth it or not, i was actually obsessed with getting a new line of shampoo&Mask cuz these stuff websites make it so seducing that u became obsessed Lol and since i used very affordable stuff since i can remember like the best one that worked for me Elseve Dream Long Hair (3$ to 4$) and guess what, it foams well and it have 6 oils and gives u layer of moisture(i just knew that it was a moisture layer lately Lol cuz i thought at first that it was just the shampoo that looks like that Lol) so that ur hair don't get all dried out and the smell?? It's so frickin amazing that u'll keep touching ur hair and smelling it all the day along, i remember that i always smelled the shampoo when i was washing😂😂😂 Then currently trying this Garnier Hydrating Shampoo(3$ to 4$ and some) and i think maybe it's a scam, it leaves my scalp a bit dried out even tho i wash on the day my hair seems oily to not get my hair dry and now coming to think of it thanks to ur video, im getting back my Elseve,a paradrug store gurl advised me it and another one and since then i've been using it and it smells really really really awesome, actually i wanted to try smtg different to make my hair looks better, but maybe i was overthinking it, i just got some vitamin D from sun and my hair already looks softer a bit and more black cuz it used to look black dull, i have wavy hair,medium thickness ig, thick on the ends, so yeah ig this is the way to go, even tho my hair is considered medium lenght, it still didn't reach my shoulders(since it's wavy and my neck long it still have a long way too Lol)

I've been using FOB for about a month 2x a week. I have eczema that affects my scalp as well and was sick of products having fragrance. My scalp irritation is gone now, but I do notice that my hair starts to get greasier throughout the week so I wash every 4 days rather than 7. A goal was a moisturized scalp so I guess it's working haha. I use this in conjunction with Olaplex #3,6 and 7 as needed.

Nice to know it’s working for you! I have eczema on my scalp too and been trying to find a good moisturising shampoo. I’ve been using anti dandruff shampoo which kind of gets rid of the itch but dry out my scalp. So now I’m on a hunt to try an actual moisturising shampoo. I’ll try FOB. Which hair goals did you choose? Have to pick 5 but not sure which ones to pick. Also wanna try Olaplex and Briogeo. Just so confused here since I don’t want a shampoo to irritate my scalp 😅

@@yakuhane8636 I can't remember all of them but I know I chose scalp hydration, shine and something about strengthening for sure? I know for I did not go with sooth scalp because I didn't want any menthol and I didn't choose deep condition because coconut oil has usually been too heavy for my hair. I have also had success using argon oil on my scalp for a few hours before I wash it (maybe 1x a month because I'm lazy). However, the best thing I ever did was invest in a humidifier for my room when I sleep! Makes the most difference for scalp and skin.

Really instead of just generally getting to the point you confused the heck out of everyone. And you chose your scents. I’m familiar with function and have been happy. Thinking about Prose it’s very much in the back of my mind. I only use the leave in on my ends and I have fine but thick hair and it does not weigh my hair down. They are very clear for my hair type that everything but the shampoo should not touch my roots. I say touche’
