Yee Sang is a type of salad that is tossed during Chinese New Year. Tossed with family, friends and colleagues, it signifies abundance and prosperity. Usually, it contains fish, a variation of vegetables and different sauces which is then mixed well using chopsticks. The general rule is to toss as high as possible while expressing well wishes for the new year! Have you already tossed Yee Sang this year?

Well done! You are right to say, without this dish, it is not Chinese New Year. Being a Malaysian abroad, 'Yu Sang' is definitely truly a unique dish. Thank you for posting this.

Hi Grace, Happy Chinese New Year 2018 from Australia! We use Smoked Salmon for our dish as well - it tastes much better and reduces the possibility of food poisoning from Raw fish. We also use activated Seeds (Pumpkin, Sunflower, non-activated Black/White Sesame) & activated Nuts (Walnut, Almond) for our crunch.

It is a lot of work but boy, I was proud :P Hahaha...At least I know what is in it and yes, that is smoked salmon. Tell me once you have succeeded in making yu sang. Post a photo on the fb page too!

Never crossed my mind to be making yu sang but after watching your video maybe I'll give it a try next year.....fingers crossed. Is that smoked salmon that you used?

I know how you feel :) It took a lot of effort to prepare this but sooooo worth it! I must have this during CNY...hopefully, you will try this recipe and have your own taste of yu sang too, with friends of course. Else you will be tossing yu sang alone >

What did you add to the taro after you applied the dye? Looks like water, but I think it would have splashed all over when you fried it. Is that gel dye??? Thank you very much. This tradition appeals to me very much, even though I am not Asian.

Thank you so much but It seems to me that laksa and curry mee are different, curry mee is famous from penang island, every time I visit malaysia I eat curry mee and laksa...laksa has noodles, bean sprouts and egg, curry mee has shell fish and a white broth until you add the gravy, I think?..but the gravy served beside both meals in the spoon looks similar. What do you think? Thank you for your time and all your experience.......

This recipe is such a failure. The crackets just disintegrated in the hot oil and I got a oily mess! Should have fried up wanton wrappers instead!
