Hi Curtin, you’re right…for any year. In the sixties fan of Stones, Beatles, The Who and the Kinks. Five years ago I discovered Floor in a Dutch program (The Best Singers, is on KZbin). Since that moment I am a huge Floorfan and discovered Nightwish ( and her former bands After Forever and ReVamp). Last year I visit three NW concerts and three Floor soloshows. My age? 71 years 😊. Waiting on ( I hope) 2025, the next tour of NW. Greetings from The Netherlands.

Yes, but this song was clearly written for Tarja’s style and abilities so it’s a valid comment that her version of this slaps harder and sounds better. For starters Tarja’s version is several notes higher and sung in a more classical style.

You're being too simplistic to claim higher = better and operatic style = better. It could just as easily be said that a contrived vocal style (opera) = worse. I disagree. I fell in love with Tarja's version, however, Floor is a much better technical singer and makes this version sound her own and in doing so gives Nightwish a different perspective. Floor is definitely the best thing for Nightwish.

I wouldn't be as big into Nightwish as I am right now if not for Floor. I know a lot older fans will cry anathema, but Tarja can be a bit of a challenging listen sometimes. Floor is instantly accessible because you can instantly tell how amazing she is.

Update after a couple of weeks of listening to NW: Actually, I prefer Tarja's rendition of this, and also of Nemo. Both songs benefit quite a bit from her dark tone, as opposed to the more airy Disney Princess style vocals Floor used in this video.

Technically they're different. Tarja was almost perfect in her style. Floor is very close behind, but mostly she's way WAYYYYYY more versatile. If you wonder why they were so happy to have Floor in Nightwish, remember they wanted her to replace Tarja, Annette was only the second choice because Floor was not available.

True fan supports the band no matter what. Yes, it is true, they play like reborn, this is perfect said. Dark Passion Play was a great album, Imaginaerum was better. I love Nightwish since 1998 (Oceanborn) and I will love them till the end of my life. Tarja fan? Anette fan? Floor fan? Why they should be compared? They are so good, but different... If you are a "Tarja fan" what the hell are you doing here?! She is not here. Same question if you are "Anette fan"... I knew of Nightwish about 15 years ago when my grandson was singing and acting Phantom of the Opera, I listened to few other songs but never heard Tarja or Floor perform this before seeing Nightwish In Kitee in June this year.Awesome song my other fav is Ever Dream Wacken 2013 ,another older song performed by Tarja and Floor .

nah. floor is great on many songs , but there are some - like this one - where tarja's voice fits better. Dead;s boy poem is another. Her voice is more haunting then floor;s , which fits the atmosphere of the song better.

i have seen his goodbye posting on facebook, i think he will be back. Every artist has these episodes like a burn out. Because music artists are products generating money for others while working from 9 to 5 like office workers, that can be frustrating sometimes.

Could very well be that he will be back. If he is close to a depressive episode or in one, things can feel even worse. Not to say that his feelings arent legit, they surely are, even without depression. But even if he doesnt come back, Nightwish will always live through Toumases compositions more than anything and while noone may be able to replace him the way he was, someone may come and give the band a new colour, just like Floor did.

Okay, I’ve wanted to stay out of this debate but after getting to know Floor and Nightwish better, I just can’t understand people who say Tarja is better than Floor. This performance is the smoking gun for me. Tarja sang this like exactly what she is: an opera singer. It wasn’t bad. But Floor brings a sensuality, a sensitivity, an entire palette of colors, a dynamic range, a huge vocabulary of expression-just an all around artistry that is conspicuously absent from Tarja’s interpretation of this song when you put them side by side. Tarja is a great opera singer, but Floor is a FUCKING ROCKSTAR!

To me, having grown up with Tarja as the singer of Nightwish, I really appreciated the opera voice on top of metal composition. When I think of Nightwish I think of high school and that's a very fixed time for me. I'm not a huge fan of the belting in this song, I liked the delicacy of a classically trained powerful chest voice. If I'm only judging this performance, back from the bridge/solo Floor misses the high note and because I'm so closed off already I can't forgive it.

Honestly, I had the same notion whether Floor will do it better or not. But with due respect, I loved Floor's version way better than the original. But Tarja's voice is also immensely addictive. That's why Nightwish is the best. They never cease to surprise their fans. I Love this band. This song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. It always feels like the first time. Thank you Floor and Nightwish for being a part of my life everyday.
