I remember back in the late 60s Chrysler had a commercial showing the entire frame, floor , and trunk sheet metal being dipped in primer. They said it had electricity going through the primer to help it bond to the metal. They ran that until the mid 70's I think. I guess it didn't last very long. That car is before the dipping though. Another great video Joe. Thanks for sharing

Awesome job Joe! Looks so great! Wish that stuff was around back in the 70's! This reminds me of a friend of mine back in 1979, Danny, he had a 1970 SS chevelle 454, beautiful car red with black factory stripes, it was one of the slickest cars around. He put it up on blocks, cleaned the whole underside, scraping and cleaning and used a brush and painted the whole underside with roofing tar! It looked great though, it was hard to even find spray undercoating back then. He took meticulous care of that car and a guy kept hounding him and making offer's until he gave in and sold it in the mid 80's. It was broadsided in a intersection by a ambulance a few weeks after he sold it, thankfully no one was killed! I can't help but remember how black and dirty he got brushing the underneath of that car! Great memories!

Have you ever used that POR 15 product that all the kids rave about these days? How would you rank this eastwood product vs the POR 15?
@JustMoparJoe2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir I have. POR15 requires a few more steps. You have to use a metal etch, which is acidic. Definitely wouldn’t want to lay in that on a creeper. Best I can tell, the Eastwood stuff stands the rest of time better. POR15 has to be topcoated. The sunlight will make it brittle.

I'm looking to do the underside of my 2011 crown vic with the Eastwood encapsulator but I've heard it's a great way to trap moisture and ruin the car. I'm wondering if there's any way I can avoid this fate or is it just an issue of not maintaining the coat?
@JustMoparJoe Жыл бұрын
Just like any paint, if there’s no moisture to trap, it won’t trap any. This stuff seals the metal and won’t allow air to get to old rust underneath. If you’re worried that it won’t stop the rust, you ca use a rust converter like the sell at Oreilys. I still think it’s good to top coat the encapsulator with an enamel.

I like the cheapos from Harbor freight, but also you’d be surprised at the selection from Amazon and eBay. If this was my car, I would have upgraded to rust encapsulator plus or topcoated this with paint. Check out my recent d100 video, where I paint the engine bay. I use the rust encapsulator in a can as a primer over bare metal and rust spots, then shot Acrylic enamel right over it, after about 15 minutes.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS)
