PROTECT your Boat with this Simple yet Effective Jon Boat Gunnel Guard

On Today’s episode of Fishing Is Therapy we look at a Do-It-Yourself Gunnel Gunwale Guard for your Aluminum Jon Boat. This PEX pipe build protects your boat from scrapes, docking, oysters and etc.
I used PEX Black Pipe in a 100ft roll, so that I can replace the guard as often as I like. You will need ratchet clamps, a jigsaw and a heat gun for this project

Nice trick, I have a 1648 with merc tiller 40/25 jet, I'm building front deck to have storage and putting tank under deck with 2 hatches

Nice! What are the dimensions of the hatch you plan to install on your front deck. Im thinking about a 14 x 14 or a 10 x 20. Also how does that 40 push that 1648?

@@fishingistherapy hatches are 17×12. 1 on top to fill the tank and still use as storage and same size hatch in front to use as storage also. The deck is 5ft x 3ft. That engine is awesome, runs 30mph with me and gear, run 20mph with 2 ppl and fully loaded for a weekend camping trip

Really? Man, that's good performance from that engine. May be upgrading my 20hp soon. That's a perfect hatch size. Where are you purchasing your hatches from?

@@fishingistherapy hatches on ebay think was 30 each, I can't see a point in paying few hundred for something like that. Don't even have that much in the aluminum to build the frame work, supports and decking lol. But that motor is awesome. Really wanted the 60/40 but was not in stock

I did this a while ago on my jon boat. I found the 160 PSI rated pipe to be very difficult to work with. The 80 PSI pipe has a thinner wall and is much easier to work with and just as durable for this application.

You're correct. The 100 psi was slightly difficult, but I know in warmer weather it would be easier to manage. I think 80 PSI would be perfect.
